What do you think of [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] on a girl?
(I know the meaning is “son,” but de-emphasizing gender will be important in my queer family and could make for a good discussion about gender anyway.)
Nickname likely [name_u]Rue[/name_u], possibly [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. My grandmother’s name is [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] also.
[name_m]Ruben[/name_m] is an okay name, but I prefer the original spelling [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]. [name_u]Rue[/name_u] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] are great names though.
I don’t like [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] for either sex… [name_m]Just[/name_m] reminds me of a sandwich! A sandwich I don’t happen to like… Anyway, I think there are much nicer male names that would accomplish your goal. Although the nicknames [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_u]Rue[/name_u] are darling…
I think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]/[name_u]Rue[/name_u] is fine, not [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] though, regardless of its meaning. I have [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] on my list and it’s a traditionally male name so just seems odd to give to a girl. I don’t like the idea.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Rue[/name_u] or [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]!
If you were to use [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] I prefer [name_m]Reuben[/name_m]. Honestly, no matter the meaning behind it I tend to dislike masculine names for girls. I think as honor names it works very well in the middle name spot. so awesome that you are putting thought into your child’s name, but I’m curious if you would use a feminine name for a boy baby that meant “daughter”?
You have some great options!
I absolutely would if I liked the name and thought it could be wearable - ie not setting a child up to be made fun of and bullied. To be clear, I’m not looking for names with a gendered meaning. It just so happened that [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] has one and I wanted to bring it up before folks pointed it out as a reason to not use the name!
