Me again! As of now we’ve narrowed our list down to Ruby, Coraline, and Elizabeth (as a sister for our sweet daughter Hazel Margaret). I’m considering any combination of these three names as first and middle name. My current faves:
Ruby Elizabeth
Elizabeth Coraline
Elizabeth Ruby
Coraline Elizabeth
What do you think works best with Hazel Margaret? I’m starting to hesitate on Coraline (nn Cora). I’m not sure I see myself saying that name day after day. I tend to not love hard consonants. Ruby and some of the many Elizabeth nicknames (Libby is my personal fave) roll off the tongue so much better. But, is Elizabeth too boring/safe (even with the endless nn possibilities)? Appreciate your thoughts as always!
I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (which is such a great parallel to big sister’s name) are my personal faves!!
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is so beautiful. I don’t think she’s boring at all. [name_m]Classic[/name_m], yes! Timeless, certainly! But she’s simply got too much history, too many bright nicknames, and too much life about her to be boring. [name_f]Libby[/name_f] and [name_f]Lib[/name_f] are two of my favorite nicknames—you’re so right about them just rolling off the tongue. They’re also just so charming and blithe with [name_u]Hazel[/name_u].
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is spunky, colorful, nature-y, and cool. I think that match with [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] is super sweet. They just click together!!
Oh, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is never boring or safe! Timeless, classic, and, as you put it, “with endless nickname possibilities”. I adore the idea of [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] & [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] & [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. That gets my vote. So I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] from your list with [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
[name_m]Even[/name_m] before I saw the comments I was also feeling [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] for you!
Especially love nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] also seems like it would be super fun to say day after day! As a pair, H@zel and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] seem closely matched in a nice way, whereas [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] changes things up a bit even while sharing the z, and adds a different, classic/formal layer to the pair. I like both these pairs though! Slightly prefer the flow of [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], but that’s a smaller consideration in my opinion.
I love [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]! [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] + [name_f]Cora[/name_f] would be the sweetest, spunkiest sisters!
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is beautiful, but I think [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] would be really special!
You honestly can’t go wrong with anything on your list though, they are all lovely.
I commented on your previous post about [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], and I stand by everything I said there- I think it’s lovely & goes well with [name_u]Hazel[/name_u]. That being said, it sounds like it might not be the right one for you- which is totally ok! You have an absolutely lovely list, so I’ll give you my thoughts on each combo:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]- I love the parallels between this and your older daughter’s name; both girls would have a spunky vintage nature name for their first name, paired with a true evergreen classic in the middle spot. And I love both [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] & [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as individual names!
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]- I don’t think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is the least bit boring, especially with a fun nickname like [name_f]Libby[/name_f] (which I adore!). That being said, I don’t love these two names as a combo- I think I’d prefer [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] with a slightly shorter middle.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]- Having [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] be the first name in this combo feels almost unexpected, in a way I love! I think these names go beautifully together and I really love that this allows you to still incorporate a nature/word name element, while also using [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (which seems to be your favorite?) as the first name.
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]- All things said and done, this might be my least favorite option for you- which really only reflects how much I love your other choices, because I still think this is a gorgeous name! But you don’t sound as excited about [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] anymore, and similar to how I feel about [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] I find this combo a little clunky/too long.
Overall, I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is my favorite for you- the combo really sparkles, and it sounds like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has your heart. But I also adore [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] for all its parallels with [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]! You really can’t go wrong here, though, you have such lovely options
[name_f]My[/name_f] votes goes to the vivid [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] Elizabeth!! All around a perfect choice with [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. I thought I would also suggest [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] as well
I think Hazel and Cora sound great together, but completely understand what you mean. I love that they are both vintage, spunky, and timeless. Personally I prefer Hazel and Cora to Hazel and Coraline because I think those look and sound better as sisters. However, both are beautiful names and I don’t think you can go wrong. Go with what you love!
I think Hazel Margaret and Coraline Elizabeth is my favorite sibset, followed by Hazel and Ruby. Have an amazing day and good luck choosing her name! I know whichever one you choose will be beautiful and perfect for your family!
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is stunning, and my favorite of the bunch! I do think [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] would be darling together, though.
I adore [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a middle-classic and beautiful, but [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] can be a mouthful as a first name. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] goes well with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and as a sibset with [name_u]Hazel[/name_u].
