My husband and I have been ttc for over a year, and are newly pegnant. I have been a long time reader of nameberry & am very excited to final discuss our potential names. My husband loves one name and one name only… [name]Ruby[/name]. I like it, but I am not sure it is the [name]ONE[/name]!
My list:
[name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] (family name & probably my favorite)
[name]Eleanor[/name]
Husbands vetos them all! Any suggestions for a middle ground? I feel that he leans toward cutesy name while I like vintage with nickname possibilities.
Also, could [name]Ruby[/name] & [name]Frances[/name] be sisters?
Personally I’m not such a big fan of [name]Frances[/name] for a fn but I think it would work well as a mn, particularly being a family name - I think mns are best when they have significance, not just as ‘fillers’.
[name]Ruby[/name] is lovely, but I think may be very popular, not sure if this is an issue for you/where you live. From your list I like [name]Eleanor[/name] next best.
I am in the same boat as you are. I just found out after ttc for awhile. Congratulations! I really like [name]Ruby[/name]. [name]Frances[/name] is not really my style, but [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] could definitely be sisters. I also love [name]Eleanor[/name]. It is on my list as well. If your hubby doesn’t like [name]Eleanor[/name], would he go for [name]Norah[/name] instead? I noticed you have two “[name]EL[/name]” names. What about [name]Eliana[/name] or [name]Elena[/name].
There is a sibset in my family tree back a few generations that included a [name]Frances[/name] and a [name]Ruby[/name], so they definitely seem like sisters to me : D! While they are very different in “feel” they are similar in vintageness.
I will say that the younger women I have known named [name]Frances[/name] have all kind of disliked their name - they have complained it seems too old or too studious. I, of course, as a studious [name]Jessica[/name], kind of wish I were a [name]Frances[/name] : D. [name]One[/name] though has made peace with the name with the nickname [name]Francie[/name], which I think is so cute and suits her well.
I wonder if [name]Frances[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] (called [name]Ruby[/name]?) or [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Frances[/name] would be a great compromise. They sound nice as a first/middle combo to me too.
I can also see [name]Dorothy[/name]. [name]Dorothy[/name] is vintage, perhaps cuter than [name]Frances[/name] because of that -ee ending (all a matter of taste), but more serious than [name]Ruby[/name]. Because of the [name]Wizard[/name] of [name]Oz[/name] thing, I could sort of imagine a [name]Dorothy[/name] nn [name]Ruby[/name], although it’s a stretch. [name]Dorothy[/name] [name]Frances[/name] or [name]Frances[/name] [name]Dorothy[/name] is a nice name.
I love [name]Ruby[/name]! I don’t really find it cutesy at all, and would love to meet someone with the name. I actually love the idea of [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Frances[/name], and then you could keep the name you love, and use it as a MN to honor family… but if you’re not a fan of that idea I do think [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] definitely could be sisters! I also like [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name] from your list.
[name]Frances[/name] is my definite favorite. I know both times I was pregnant my husband vetoed a name early on, I dropped it, and when I reintroduced the name later he immediately took to it! Maybe something to try? [name]Frances[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] is adorable as a sib set.
It seems like there is a lot of love for [name]Ruby[/name] here, so I will try out a fm/mn combo with you berries…
Honest opinions on [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Rose[/name] B.
My favorite sister name for [name]Ruby[/name] is [name]Stella[/name], so I would also appreciate thoughts on [name]Stella[/name] [name]Kate[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
Ha ha ha there was a [name]Stella[/name] in my [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] family tree set as well : D.
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is very nice! [name]Stella[/name] [name]Kate[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is good too, although [name]Kate[/name] as a standalone has always mildly bothered me, I might prefer [name]Stella[/name] [name]Kay[/name] [name]Frances[/name], [name]Stella[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Frances[/name], something on those lines. BUT, that’s really just taste, and [name]Stella[/name] [name]Kate[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is a good name. I guess [name]Kate[/name] [name]Frances[/name] feels a little less elegant than [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Rose[/name]? But not hugely so and again, [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Stella[/name] are a strong match.
Honestly, before I even opened the thread, I thought [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] would make great sisters. I also like [name]Stella[/name] with [name]Ruby[/name], and both [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Stella[/name] [name]Kate[/name] [name]Frances[/name] are stunning names.
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]August[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is pretty. [name]Stella[/name] [name]Kate[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is nice too, but I think [name]Stella[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Kate[/name] flows better.
I think [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] would be perfect for sisters. I love the name [name]Frances[/name] and love the nickname [name]Frankie[/name] for a little girl. I have to say I prefer [name]Frances[/name] over [name]Ruby[/name].
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is beautiful. My daughter’s name is [name]Ruby[/name] and we picked it because it’s beautiful and kind of old-fashioned, but sounds tough! Great name.
I love [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Frances[/name], and [name]Eleanor[/name]. I think [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] will make a harmonious set.
I also love [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. [name]Stella[/name] [name]Kate[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is okay, but both [name]Stella[/name] and [name]Kate[/name] are too overused for my taste.
Thank you all so much for the input! Since the [name]Stella[/name] combo is less impressive to some, I wonder if anyone can create a name with the same feel as [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Rose[/name] for us, using the original names I posted. Other family or significant names are: [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Louise[/name], [name]Grace[/name], [name]June[/name], [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Ivy[/name] & [name]Freya[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Frances[/name] [name]Imogen[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] (my favorite!)
[name]Stella[/name] [name]Eloise[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Ivy[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Louise[/name] (sorry, I ran out of one-syllables from your list and came up with [name]Blythe[/name]).
[name]Just[/name] some ideas. I think [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Frances[/name] are perfect together.
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Augusta[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is lovely! I prefer [name]Estella[/name] or [name]Estelle[/name] over [name]Stella[/name]. [name]Stella[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Kate[/name] would flow better, I think. I think [name]Frances[/name] makes a better mn than a fn. I much prefer [name]Ruby[/name]. [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Frances[/name] would be lovely.
None of your other names are my favorites, but I do love most vintage names.
Some suggestions: [name]Louisa[/name] or [name]Louise[/name] (I think nn [name]Lou[/name] is adorable for a girl), [name]Agnes[/name] ([name]Aggie[/name], perhaps), [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name] ([name]Lottie[/name])
Oooh! I love [name]Freya[/name]. A woman I work with has a grand-daughter named [name]Freya[/name], and she is adorable!
[name]Freya[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Grace[/name] would be really sweet
I like [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name]!!!.. not a HUGE fan or [name]Frances[/name]… but i dont mind the name [name]Francine[/name]… I had a friend names francine and she was beautiful, smart and a great athlete too! she made the name cool for me! Everyone called her [name]Frankie[/name]!
I also really like [name]Francesca[/name]!
But i do think [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Francine[/name], [name]Frances[/name] or [name]Francesca[/name] would be cute sister names!
