[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is gorgeous, maybe [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] to honor mom? I wouldn’t worry too much about popularity, this isn’t the '80s anymore! 
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is adorable and you shouldn’t let popularity bother you at all.
A while back I did a combined spellings list of the US Top 1000 and while the popularity in your state might differ, I suspect the change will be similar:
[name_f]Alaina[/name_f], [name_f]Elaina[/name_f] + [name_f]Alayna[/name_f] = 4351 uses; if you add [name_f]Elena[/name_f] & [name_f]Alana[/name_f] = 1611+2877 uses // TOTAL = 8838
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] = 3433 uses
So even if you would not add [name_f]Elena[/name_f] and [name_f]Alana[/name_f], [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] would still be more popular than [name_u]Ruby[/name_u].

I love the name ruby. Maybe you can use your middl name for her. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] alaine is beautiful
I think [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] are both such pretty names, though I do prefer [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. If you prefer it as well you should use it!
If it’s so popular that you think it will be a huge issue, you could try [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], which sounds great =} then you could call her either name but not have the first name be as popular.
But if you do end up doing [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] as a first name, [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] makes an awesome middle name too! =D
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] sounds perfect! It’s so cute, and that way you use both names.

[name_f]Elena[/name_f] (this spelling) was on my list for a long time! It’s beautiful. I think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] might be the better option for you though - it sounds like you really love it, and honestly when you combine the many spellings of [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] it is likely more popular then [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] and [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] are both beautiful, you really can’t go wrong with either!
Thank you all for your input! I still like both of them a lot, so it’s hard to choose. But because both of us love [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] that’s probably what we will go with. You all helped me feel better about making that choice.
I’m a bit late on commenting on this, but I think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] would be a great option for you, as others have said. That way, you will be using a name you both adore and you would be able to pass down your middle name to her, which is a really sweet connection 
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about how I popular it is. I wouldn’t as long as ever second child I met had the same name. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is a gorgeous name.

I’m in Australia where [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is even more popular (number 1 in my state back in 2011 and top 10 since then) but I only know one little [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Alaina[/name_f] is gorgeous.
