Ruby or Hazel

First off, I want to thank everyone who has weighed in and helped us out the last few months as we debate baby names! I think (think!) we are down to two, [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]. Middle name will be [name]Alice[/name] and last name starts with an S and is as common as they come. Big brother [name]Wyatt[/name] (2).

I know in the past some people have commented that they like a longer middle or first name and not all two syllables, but personally I’m a fan of short names and like the flow, so that part is okay.

Things we like about [name]Ruby[/name]: spunky, cute, ends in a ‘y’, reminds me a little of my own name ([name]Lilly[/name]), always a fan of red.

Things we like about [name]Hazel[/name]: slightly less common, old fashioned but not too old ladyish, five letters (which the rest of our names are).

We’re in [name]New[/name] [name]England[/name] and neither of these names are in the top 100 here, but I do know [name]Ruby[/name] is more popular elsewhere.

So what do you think?

[name]Ruby[/name] is really popular in the UK but I still prefer it to [name]Hazel[/name], I’ve never liked that name for some reason. I think it’s the Hay sound, I don’t like [name]Hayley[/name] much either.

I really like both, though I think [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] sounds nicer than [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Alice[/name]. [name]Ruby[/name] seems to fit better with [name]Wyatt[/name] as well. I don’t know any [name]Ruby[/name] babies, and I don’t see it in announcements around here either. I live in the Midwest, USA.

I like both names! You can’t go wrong!

I prefer [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] over [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Alice[/name] (:

Definitely [name]Ruby[/name]! I am not a fan of [name]Hazel[/name] at all. [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] is beautiful!

[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Wyatt[/name]!

[name]Hazel[/name] is a favourite. I find [name]Ruby[/name] a bit shrill. I like it more than I used to, though, but I still love [name]Hazel[/name] considerably more. (Confession: Always preferred green to red…)

I know a LOT of little Rubys in NSW, Australia though. I think in [name]New[/name] [name]England[/name] it might feel fresher.

[name]Wyatt[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] is a lovely combo to me.

[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] flows better than [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Alice[/name] though I prefer [name]Hazel[/name] to [name]Ruby[/name]. Would [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] be an option?

I love both [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name]. I think [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] S- sounds better than [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Alice[/name] S- so I vote [name]Ruby[/name].

I think you have fabulous taste in names

I love both [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] but think [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] flows better.

[name]Hazel[/name], definitely. I will declare my bias, though: I take dog training classes and [name]Ruby[/name] is, hands down, the most popular name for female dogs at the moment. In saying that, I did have one dog in my class called [name]Hazel[/name], too!

To me, [name]Ruby[/name] is spunky and [name]Hazel[/name] is old-ladyish.
I would pick just about any name over [name]Hazel[/name].
[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] is such a sweet combo!

Thanks everyone, so far [name]Ruby[/name] seems to be winning. I’ll see what the husband has to say about that

[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] is a lovely name.

[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name]

[name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] gets my vote

I really love the name [name]Hazel[/name]! And I think [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Alice[/name] sounds really good together, [name]Ruby[/name] is cute too, I just personally prefer [name]Hazel[/name]. It’s different, and it’s a really pretty name.

[name]Ruby[/name]! The "L"s in [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] get me a bit tongue-tied when I say them one after the other. And I think [name]Ruby[/name] goes really well with [name]Wyatt[/name]. [name]Wyatt[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name]. The "y"s complement each other when the names are written out. [name]Both[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name], however, are very beautiful names!

Definitely [name]Hazel[/name], not a fan of [name]Ruby[/name] although everyone else seems to be choosing it lately.

I [name]LOVE[/name] both [name]Hazel[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name], two of my favourite names! But with Wytt, I like [name]Ruby[/name] better, and [name]Ruby[/name] [name]Alice[/name] flows better than [name]Hazel[/name] [name]Alice[/name] (too much of an ‘l’ sound).
