Ruby

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] All!

I love love love the name [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], but it’s really important to me that the middle name is [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. And I can’t help feeling like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a bit short, and maybe a bit young / immature sounding? Also, our last name is 4 letters, 1 syllable, starting with R. Does it not work? [name_f]Do[/name_f] I need to let [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] go?

Looking for thoughts, reassurance or suggestions. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is non-negotiable. It’s really important to me.

Other names I love include names in my signature + [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Leora[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f], & [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]. But I love [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. If there were no other factors, I would choose [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] with no hesitation.

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is such a beautiful name, and I really love it too. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a lovely combo too, even if maybe a little bit plain or short. I don’t really think it sounds much like a stripper name though.

I actually think that the 2-1-1 syllable pattern would sound quite nice. But, if you have concerns about this, perhaps a second middle name would help, such as:

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Leora[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Leora[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]

If any of the above combos (or ones like it) go with your last name, I’d say that’d be a pretty good option. If you really love [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], don’t overthink it!

I think ruby [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is cute! (I think [name_f]Jane[/name_f] works with most names as a middle), and if you love it, use it!

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is very cute! I don’t think it sounds like a show name ([name_u]Ruby[/name_u] itself is quite showbiz but that association has changed dramatically over last 30 years or so.) Anyway, it’s not like she’ll use her middle name to introduce herself.

I’m wondering more if [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] Rxxx is a tad stark? I’m just guessing it might be worth comparing more not for the [name_f]Jane[/name_f] issue but the short R-R name?

And maybe as pp said, it’s more the one syllable middle to one syllable last name that’s the problem, and a double middle would slow it all down nicely?

Anyway, I dont think using [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is the issue, I think the last name is the tricky element if there’s one even worth considering!

I think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a really pretty combo! [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] R-last name is the part that would make me hesitate–but not enough to sacrifice the right name. I say go with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. If not, I really like [name_f]Leora[/name_f] out of your other chocies.

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is adorable!

Ruby Jane is lovely and if Ruby sounds fine with your last name you have a winner! We rarely say all three of our names together so even if you have a tiny doubt or hesitation over how short her name is, it won’t be said regularly so you should just go ahead with the name you love!

Also, the alliteration of her first and last name will make it memorable, in a good way.

Is there another name that would work with the nickname [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]? I know a [name_f]Rubina[/name_f] who goes by [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], but that may not be your style.

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is gorgeous and while both names are short I definitely don’t think the name itself is too short! Additionally, there are tons of people and characters whose names starts with the same letter as their last name, I actually think it’s pretty cool. For example: [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Kiera[/name_f] Knightly, Bilbo Baggins, [name_f]Lena[/name_f] [name_m]Luther[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m] [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Wally[/name_u] [name_u]West[/name_u], [name_f]Lois[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u]. If you love the name, I say go for it. It really sounds to me like you’ve found the right one and I hope you don’t give it up because of something like how short it is. It flows really well, it’s a beautiful choice.

Thanks for everyones thoughts!

I had considered 2 middle names, but it has been vetoed as it’s too “fancy & frilly” (lol, you win some you lose some). I do really like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] R—, maybe I’ll try bringing that one up again.

I actually do like the alliteration of [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] R, so not worried about that. More just the 4 letters - 4 letters - 4 letters.

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] would be lovely!

I like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] has 2 syllables, so it isn’t that short when spoken. Go for it!

I like [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]! And I think [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] Rxxx could be great. Those short, alliterative double names always remind me of superheroes
