Rue

I currently like this name, BUT I’ve never read or watched the Hunger Games (yet), and it’s a synonym of regret. Thoughts? I like for both genders, but is it completely unuseable? Would it work as a middle maybe? Help!

I think it’s usable! It’s got a sweet, simple sound, and there are a few famous characters with the name that make it feel wearable to me. I think of it as a girls’ name, but it could work on a boy, too.

I don’t love that it’s a word for regret, but I don’t think that’s a dealbreaker.

I love [name_u]Rue[/name_u] and dislike the Hunger Games. I consider it an herb name and don’t dwell on the regret part. I find it very usable.

I like the herb connection too :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :herb: And thanks for your quick replies!!

I read the Hunger Games and can’t even remember a [name_u]Rue[/name_u]. But I don’t love the name. Sounds childish to me.

oh

I think [name_u]Rue[/name_u] is super sweet!! I actually started liking it when I read The Hunger Games several years ago, as the character was one of my favorites (and isn’t a bad association!). The meaning of the word is pretty much the only reason I don’t have it directly on my list, and if that bothers you, then maybe it could be a cute nickname (for Ruth/Ruthie, [name_u]Rudy[/name_u], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], or [name_f]Larue[/name_f] just as examples!)

Cool! Thanks!!

I really like [name_u]Rue[/name_u]! I haven’t read or watched the Hunger games so I can’t say I have any association with it. It’s meaning doesn’t really bother me as I usually have personal associations, imagery, or meanings behind names which are more important to me. I totally think it’s usable, but there’s always [name_u]Roux[/name_u] as another option!

For the reasons you mentioned (hunger games, which I dislike, and the negative meaning), I prefer the similar [name_u]Roux[/name_u]! It’s pronounced the same but also looks more complete to me.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]! I also loved the Hunger Games books as a teenager, but don’t associate the name to the character too strongly

I adore Rue!! I love it for both but I think I prefer it for a girl. I’ve never seen/read Hunger Games but I’m slightly aware of the association. I wouldn’t dwell on the word part of it, how often do people actually say the word rue y’know? If that does bother you though I saw that you like the spice connection so [name_u]Roux[/name_u] could be a pretty nice alternative! Overall I love it :black_heart::leaves:

The hunger games is a good association yo me- [name_u]Rue[/name_u] is such a sweet character!

Would recommend reading the books over watching the movies. Have done both & one is obviously superior!

I love [name_u]Rue[/name_u] for a girl but would use it as a nickname. Roo could be used for either gender and eliminated the regret meaning. [name_u]Roux[/name_u] doesn’t feel like a name to me.

I love [name_u]Rue[/name_u] and would use it in a heartbeat for a child if I hadn’t already used it for my cat :joy: I do think of the Hunger Games, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad association. I also think of [name_u]Rue[/name_u] McClanahan, who played [name_f]Blanche[/name_f] on the [name_u]Golden[/name_u] Girls. I would not worry about the word association - there are tons of names with less than stellar meanings.

[name_u]Rue[/name_u] is lovely! The character in the Hunger Games is good so don’t worry, but I think it’s so pretty regardless

I really like [name_u]Rue[/name_u]! It’s sweet and feisty! The character is a good association, but I don’t think it will be that long lasting. In terms of the regret meaning, I don’t think it’s used so much in everyday conversation to be a big deal. I also enjoy the way [name_u]Rue[/name_u] looks.

I love it! It’s short and spunky but kind of gentle and wistful too. I think that’s why I don’t mind the meaning, it gives the name a kind of soft, (bittersweet), nostalgic feel to me — although a child named [name_u]Rue[/name_u] may feel differently!

What ultimately ruled it out for us was that it means “street” in [name_u]French[/name_u]. Not too bad, but with French-speaking family we decided that would be a little weird.

I like the name [name_u]Rue[/name_u] (and not just because The Hunger Games are my favorite books/movies!) I think it works great as a first name and a middle name!
