So I am just a little upset because I’m trying to come up with baby names that I even like. (3rd kid is hard!)
I have never seen [name_u]Twilight[/name_u], I read the first chapter and just absolutely hated it, but apparently some of my baby names are from the book/movies.
I already have an [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_u]Jude[/name_u].
On my new baby list is [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. Boys [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], [name_u]Callum[/name_u], [name_m]Graham[/name_m].
[name_f]My[/name_f] husband informed me that [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] are from [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] and since [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is a character from [name_u]Twilight[/name_u], people will think we are obsessed with it or something.
I actually love french sounding names so I’m just upset.
What are your first impressions of the names? Especially [name_f]Esme[/name_f]?
I’ve never read or watched [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] either (all knowledge I have of it pretty much comes from what I’ve picked up on here), so I don’t think of it at all when I hear [name_f]Esme[/name_f] (which I absolutely adore btw!). If I met siblings named [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], it might come to mind, but I wouldn’t think they named them after the characters.
I would think of it if I met brothers named [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] and [name_u]Callum[/name_u] ([name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_m]Cullen[/name_m]), though. But again, I wouldn’t assume that it was on purpose.
Honestly I think the whole [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] craze is dying a death I never really hear about [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] & I don’t see the control association between [name_f]Esme[/name_f], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] & [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. I think if you love a name use it.
[name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] were side characters in twilight and there are so many other associations with [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] that I don’t think anyone will make the connectiaon.
I didn’t think that when I read your post. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] have a long history that came well before [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] and will be around long after. I don’t think anyone would think you are obsessed with the series if you use the names you love. Btw I never read the [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] series nor watched the movies.
All the names are great and you won’t go wrong using any of them.
I don’t think anyone cares that much about [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] anymore. You didn’t miss much by not seeing it. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a lot of sulking from [name_f]Kristen[/name_f] [name_m]Stewart[/name_m].
I did think of twilight when I first read the names and I also agree with pp that said [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] sound too close for siblings. I’ve only seen twilight once and never read the books but I do hear about it quite a bit on social media still because I’m in groups that talk about books and movies a lot.
For those who don’t know my generation is having a twilight come back it’s all over tiktok so do be wary it has not died but gotten reborn! I automatically thought of [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] so for younger and millennial generation maybe but for older generations maybe not! I say avoid it to be safe [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] would be too close but you can pass with [name_u]Emmet[/name_u] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] which are more common!
I like [name_f]Esme[/name_f] but with or without the [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] connection I might have considered her too close to [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] anyway. Sometimes when I can’t have a name I seem to like it more! I’m sure you will find the perfect fit for your new addition.
I like [name_f]Esme[/name_f]. I agree with the other posters that [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] is having something of a resurgence. There was a new book in the series published recently, Midnight [name_f]Sun[/name_f]. But at the same time, I don’t think the [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] association is a big issue or it should stop you from using the names that you love. Most people out there aren’t [name_u]Twilight[/name_u] fans and they aren’t going to know the names of all the characters. I doubt anyone is going to assume that you’re obsessed with the series, especially since [name_u]Jude[/name_u] has no connection to to it.
Emmett, [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] I think works wonderfully and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] is such a popular name it wouldn’t occur to me at all.
With [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] I might think that twilight inspired it as I first heard the name [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] in twilight and paired with [name_f]Esme[/name_f] as they’re both less popular names ([name_u]Emmett[/name_u] more so than [name_f]Esme[/name_f]) it might seem connected. But then [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is lovely.
Evangeline would be your safest girl bet and for a boy I would opt for [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] with your current set.
Rose could work too but there is a [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] so if you’re wanting to avoid the twilight connection [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is best and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is fabulous.
I think that [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] would be useable but [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and all [name_u]Twilight[/name_u]! However [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_f]Esmerelda[/name_f] nicknames [name_f]Esme[/name_f] could get you around it !
I agree with princesspanda. I’m in my early 20s so the association is definitely there for me and my friends. [name_f]Esme[/name_f] is uncommon enough that many people only know it from twilight, though on NB we hear it a lot. Personally I wouldn’t pair any twilight name with [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. Yes, twilight is getting pretty old now but it was a big cultural moment that hasn’t disappeared yet. I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is different enough from [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. I would go with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_m]Graham[/name_m] if it were me, but, of course, it’s not and it’s obviously up to you. [name_m]Just[/name_m] throwing in my two cents!
