Our last name is a name that can also be a first name and we like a lot of names (Preston, Presley, Bronson etc) that can also be surnames. Does it matter if you have this combination as a full name if it sounds good otherwise? so many names these days can be both surnames and first names so can be tricky ha ha
this is just an example (neither names are ours or to our liking) Branson Preston
I think it’s fine. What you said is true, because there are so many names that could be both a first and a surname I don’t think it’s an issue. All of my kids names could be surnames, and although I’ve never met someone with our surname as a first I’m sure there are people out there!
I think as long as the actual names go together there isn’t a problem. Like [name_m]Branson[/name_m] [name_m]Preston[/name_m] for example doesn’t have the best flow, but [name_m]Branson[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] does.
I agree with PP; so many names now are cross overs, that as long as the name flows, you’re good. Of course, certain parts of the country are more comfortable with surnames than others, so it may be a decision you need to consider based on your region.
Actually manymmale names are also surnames. I know people with the surname of commonly used first names such as [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Keith[/name_m], [name_m]Edward/name_m, [name_m]Scott[/name_m], and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], among others.
thanks guys, yeah I thought I may be overthinking it! and yes sorry ‘[name_m]Branson[/name_m] [name_m]Preston[/name_m]’ is an awful example - just the first two names that came to mind!
It will only cause confusion if the surname is a widely used given name ([name_u]James[/name_u]) and the first name is more common as a surname ([name_u]Walker[/name_u]) - [name_u]Walker[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]. But [name_m]Branson[/name_m] [name_m]Preston[/name_m] is fine.
Our last name is [name_u]Walker[/name_u] so we run into this problem a bit as well. We had to cross [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] off our list the moment we said it aloud! I take names strongly into consideration because of this, because I’ve found many times it can sound like a law firm! e.g. [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] [name_m]Foster[/name_m] [name_u]Taylor[/name_u]
