This is my first time posting…We are expecting baby #7 next month and really don’t have anything that we love yet. We don’t find out gender and usually have a list of a few names at least for both boy and girl to chose from. However, it just doesn’t feel like there is something to use at this point.
Let me start by giving you our other kids names:
[name]Caleb[/name] [name] Josiah[/name]
[name]Isaiah[/name] [name]Logan[/name]
[name]Elijah[/name] [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Charis[/name] [name]Zariah[/name]
[name]Micah[/name] *(angel baby-gender unknown)
[name]Selah[/name] [name]Nariah[/name]
We didn’t start out with a plan to have the similarities, but in the beginning all the names we liked seemed to fit that pattern (-ah or -iah ending name, and 5 syllables total). Now it feels strange if we break from that.
Here are some names that we have tossed around, no particular first or middle order. Please feel free to add or improve on. (Meaning is also something we take into consideration).
Any thoughts on what sounds best out of these? Or other possibilities? Any help narrowing it down would be great… I am feeling stressed about it since I am due beginning of [name]April[/name].
Hmm…seems like Bible names for the boys and spiritual/biblical ideas for girls?
Most of your girls names are pretty obscure and I am not sure what the pronunciation would be of them all but I think…
Xara is nice but [name]Chara[/name] is way too close to [name]Charis[/name].
Other thoughts
[name]Ezekiel[/name] [name]Seth[/name]
[name]Lemuel[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Sarai[/name] [name]Nesiah[/name]
[name]Adah[/name] (prn. AHDah not [name]Ada[/name]) [name]Elia[/name]
For the girls, [name]Lael[/name] is my favorite, followed by [name]Nesiah[/name] and [name]Tova[/name]. I also like [name]Aziza[/name] for you.
For the boys, my favorite is [name]Gideon[/name] or [name]Tobiah[/name]. I like some of your other choices, particularly [name]Zechariah[/name] and [name]Nehemiah[/name], but they sound a little overwrought next to your other boys’ names.
For a boy, I’d do [name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Tobiah[/name] or [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Tobiah[/name]
From your girl’s list, I like Nesiah, but I think it would be a bit too much to have another -iah first name in the family and would thus limit it to a middle name. [name]Lael[/name] Nessiah or [name]Tovah[/name] Nesiah sound the best to me.
You might like:
[name]Peninah[/name]
[name]Aviva[/name]
[name]Yaffa[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Keziah[/name]
[name]Mariah[/name]
Just wanted to clarify how you’re pronouncing Nessiah. I’m thinking NESS-yuh? I know someone with this name (and this pronunciation), but spelled Nesyah. I don’t have a preference between these spellings, but I would prefer this pronunciation to, say, ness-EYE-uh.
Thank you for the thoughts. I put the links into the names so they would be easier to find and see pronunciation on. I had both [name]Ezekiel[/name] and [name]Lemuel[/name] and hubby vetoed…I like the sound of [name]Adah[/name], but my niece is [name]Addy[/name] and I am not sure how I feel about the similarities.
I am pretty much on the same page as you here…I agree that another long iah first name will be tough (we are already a little tounge tied when calling kids…). I do like [name]Tobiah[/name] though. I am pushing for [name]Gideon[/name], but hubby isn’t on board.
We probably would stick to the ness-EYE-uh, but most likely as a middle. [name]Keziah[/name] was on the list and it got nixed. I like [name]Peninah[/name], unfortunately hubby sees things slightly different than me and hears something else when this is said…
Thank you, thank you…this is really helpful to see if we are at least headed in a right direction.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Lael[/name]! Has [name]Jerusha[/name] or [name]Zipporah[/name] been on your list? [name]Lael[/name] [name]Jerusha[/name] or [name]Lael[/name] [name]Zipporah[/name] are both lovely. I like [name]Gideon[/name] and [name]Boaz[/name]. I am also a fan of [name]Malachi[/name] and [name]Zebulun[/name]. [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Tobiah[/name] and [name]Boaz[/name] [name]James[/name]. [name]Malachi[/name] [name]James[/name] and [name]Zebulun[/name] [name]Tobiah[/name].
Of the boys’ names, I really like [name]Boaz[/name] and [name]Gideon[/name]. Maybe [name]Boaz[/name] [name]Tobiah[/name] or [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Ari[/name]?
Girls names are always harder for me but I love [name]Tovah[/name] and [name]Chava[/name] and [name]Aviva[/name].
I appreciate the additional ideas and thoughts on these name lists. I have been struggling just to narrow them down as the birth got closer. We had a baby boy on [name]April[/name] 11th, so now at least I can work with just the one list…But, I am still unsure and my time to submit paperwork is dwindling. I was pushing for [name]Tobiah[/name], [name]Zadok[/name] or [name]Gideon[/name] together or not, but hubby is not on board with those for whatever reason. I have ruled out[name] Lazurus[/name],[name] Jireh[/name], and [name]James[/name] (my sister is naming her daughters mn [name]Jaymes[/name]).
So that leaves
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Nehemiah[/name]
[name]Zechariah[/name]
[name]Boaz[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Jeriah[/name]
[name]Nehemiah[/name] [name]Seth[/name] has been on the list for about 9yrs and was going to be our 6yr old sons name, but when he was born hubby felt he was not a [name]Nehemiah[/name], but an [name]Elijah[/name].
Pros-liked for a long time, fits our “theme” (probably too much), and has a good meaning.
Cons-long, not much variety for pairing a one syllable mn, initials are NSA (not bad, just kinda weird…)
What are some other middle name possibilities? (1 syll)
I know it feels weighty against some of the other boys now, so I thought we should at least have an alternative.
We are both fine with [name]Jeriah[/name] as well. I couldn’t get hub to agree on a non -iah first name that he liked enough…
[name]Jeriah[/name] [name]Enoch[/name] (added today…)
Pros-2 syllables for easier flow, more variety for mn’s
Cons-possibility for nn [name]Jer[/name], [name]Jerry[/name] are there and wouldn’t love that, new to the list
What are some other 2 syll mn’s?
I don’t know why I have such a problem with names…I feel that they are important and really want to find just the right one for each child that is also something we like saying. It’s like believing there is just one soul mate for everyone vs. the one you marry is your soul mate. Maybe the perfect name is what you name them and until then it is just a name…
[name]Seth[/name] - [name]Pleasant[/name] but would keep it as a middle name if at all.
[name]Nehemiah[/name] - I really like this said [name]Nechemya[/name], the Hebrew way, but [name]Nehemiah[/name] is nice too. Have you considered [name]Noam[/name]? Only two syllables and a bit softer? [name]Naphtali[/name] seems soft too but is just as uncommon so I don’t know that it’s any better.
[name]Zechariah[/name] - I prefer [name]Zacharias[/name] because I like [name]Zach[/name]. I also like [name]Zebulon[/name], (“exalted”) but most people don’t like [name]Zeb[/name] as a NN as much as I do.
[name]Boaz[/name] - Prefer [name]Baruch[/name] or [name]Barak[/name] or [name]Benjamin[/name] or [name]Benaiah[/name].
[name]Nathaniel[/name] - Beautiful. And a little “easier” than Nehemya/[name]Nehemiah[/name].
Jeriah - Prefer [name]Jedidiah[/name] to [name]Jeremiah[/name] and variants because I like [name]Jed[/name] more than [name]Jerry[/name].
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. I know names can be personal and we don’t always agree on what sounds the best. I think I liked too many this time and kept trying to make lots fit. However, I wasn’t the only one to consider. We finally filed the birth certificate…He is officially [name]Nehemiah[/name] [name]Seth[/name]. I just couldn’t get any of the other names to work for him…now if I could just get used to saying it and stop calling him by one of the other kids…sigh…mom of many…
