Hello everyone! [name]Just[/name] waned opinions on the topic of Russian names. I find them to be very beautiful and exotic but how do you think they’ll wear on an American child or even European? Also what are your favorite Russian girl names that are beautiful but have comprehensible pronunciations? I love, for example [name]Anechka[/name], or [name]Svetlana[/name], any others?
[name]One[/name] last question, if you have more than one child, do you think it’s ok to have one daughter with a Russian name, and others with French or American or even [name]German[/name]? Or should there be some unison with the sib set in the sense of name nationality?
Thank you!!!
I love Russian names.
I think if you are raising them in an English speaking country I would be more concerned about their names being evenly exotic/normal but not necessarily from the same country. [name]Veronika[/name] is fine with [name]Elisabeth[/name] - Lyubov needs another very uncommon name for balance, I think, and maybe better an uncommon name from another language than a very assimilated Russian name?
My favourite Russian names in no particular order:
[name]Tatiana[/name]
[name]Katia[/name]
[name]Veronika[/name]
[name]Ekaterina[/name]
Valeriya/[name]Valeria[/name]
[name]Aleksandrina[/name]
[name]Leonora[/name]
[name]Yelena[/name]/[name]Galina[/name]
[name]Raina[/name]/Radka - I like [name]Raina[/name] best but I’ve also seen it spelled [name]Rayna[/name].
Yeah, i’d say you need them to be on the same level of exoticness. [name]Don[/name]'t name one kid [name]Rylee[/name] and the next one Boguslava.
i like
[name]Nadia[/name]
[name]Katia[/name]
Akilina
[name]Kira[/name]
[name]Lilia[/name]
[name]Oksana[/name]
Women in my Russian stepfather’s family: [name]Oksana[/name], [name]Natalya[/name], [name]Larisa[/name]. I don’t think any of them would cause huge pronunciation problems.
I love Russian names! Some I love: [name]Varvara[/name], [name]Vasilisa[/name], [name]Evgenia[/name], [name]Taissa[/name], [name]Natalia[/name], [name]Milena[/name], [name]Lyudmila[/name]…
I think it’s totally okay to name your children names of different cultures.
I have a good friend named [name]Ekaterina[/name]. She is actually from the middle of Siberia so it’s not like she bears a super Russian name without being Russian, but she’s lived in Spain for a year (that’s where I went to school with her), and has lived in [name]Canada[/name] for about 6 years now. She’s never had issues with her name… she also speaks [name]German[/name]. I also went to school with a girl named Kseniya. People adapt to ‘foreign’ names. Sometimes it takes some pronunciation reminders, but humans are adaptable.
As far as languages go in a sibset, I’m not opposed to various backgrounds in one sibset, but I do like cohesive pronunciations.
For example, [name]Maddi[/name] is a Basque name pronounced “mah-yee”, and I think that’s fine on its own next to a name like [name]Anton[/name] (or something else not necessarily Basque). But pairing [name]Maddi[/name] and [name]Judd[/name] where they both have a double D and are not pronounced the name, I find it confusing.
My favourite Russian names for girls are:
[name]Ariadna[/name]
[name]Ekaterina[/name]
Evgeniya (my friend’s mn actually, lol. I [name]LOVE[/name] the name Evegniy for a boy)
[name]Lyudmila[/name] (this was the name of my diving coach. [name]LOVE[/name] it!)
[name]Nadezhda[/name]
[name]Olya[/name]
[name]Tekla[/name]
I like some Russian names but mostly my taste veer more towards cute & not so much towards dramatic or princessy.
[name]Elena[/name]
Lubov
[name]Valentina[/name]
[name]Anya[/name]/[name]Anja[/name]/[name]Anna[/name]
[name]Maksim[/name]
[name]Boris[/name]
[name]Misha[/name]
[name]Grisha[/name]
Elik
I think that you don’t have to match nationality as much as length or style.
[name]Anastasia[/name] & [name]Sioban[/name] could easily be sisters to me. [name]Anya[/name] & [name]Ruby[/name] totally work imo.
I like [name]Nadezhda[/name], [name]Milena[/name] and [name]Lilia[/name] a lot.
