[name_f]My[/name_f] first born is named [name_f]Leni[/name_f] [name_f]Bloom[/name_f]. We picked this name so easily and confidently. Iām now learning subsequent names are so much harder! On top of needing to make a decision, youāre also now trying to match your next name up with your first and consider how both sound together. Oof!
Weāve had a lot of good ones come up and more and more Iām realizing thereās plenty of wonderful possible options- not a single perfect one! [name_m]Just[/name_m] depends on the style you want to lean into with each one.
And so, we have finally narrowed it down to two. Our last name is Rib@ck (Ry-back). [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I BOTH agreeably like:
~ [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Ines[/name_f]
I love that [name_u]June[/name_u] is one syllable, differently from [name_f]Leni[/name_f] which is two. [name_f]Leni[/name_f] and [name_u]June[/name_u] are a really balanced match and a sweet pair. I think [name_f]Ines[/name_f] also rings nicely with [name_u]June[/name_u] and makes for a bright feeling, just as [name_f]Leni[/name_f] [name_f]Bloom[/name_f] does.
I donāt love that there arenāt any good nicknames for [name_u]June[/name_u] (I know there ARE, but none that we like and would instinctively use. Except for maybe [name_f]Juni[/name_f] or [name_u]June[/name_u] Bug, we donāt like any others).
~ [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Ines[/name_f]
A point for [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] also being one syllable. I love love love how [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] Riback sounds- double R is so cute. And I LOVE that I can call her Ru!!! Itās one of my fav names on its own but husband isnāt on board.
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is obviously a very different style of name from [name_f]Leni[/name_f]. It gives vintage NYC Jewish vibes, however we love that and it is very fitting to our personal style (husband happens to be Jewish as well). On one hand, I donāt want [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] to feel like her name is less exciting than her siblings, on the otherā¦. I think Ru/Ruth is darling and know that it will be her that makes the name special. We do want a third child and PRESUMING it happens to be a boy, our list includes [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], Zevy, [name_u]Enzo[/name_u], Afie, and [name_m]Abel[/name_m]. So if I think of having a [name_f]Leni[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], I actually think that all works and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] balances out the future sib-set in a nice, neutral way, with Ru still leaning itself to a little more unique/cool. If we have a third and itās a girl we are just straight up hooped because Iām out of ideas
Itās most likely we will spend a few days with baby in real life and try on each name when deciding, but curious of your votes and any thoughts!
Iāve posted a lot about this and am more or less circulating the same names so thank you for everyone who is repeatedly voting and offering validation
oh my gosh! leni bloom is so darling, i love your style. to me, june ines fits a lot better with leni but ruth is so cute as well! but also, i think leni, june and any of your boy names fit much better. leni, june and abel seems more congruent then leni, ruth and zevy for example!
i love all these names, but imo i love june ines for you. itās just such an upbeat and fun name, that goes hand and hand with leni!
The good news is: I like [name_f]Leni[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], and [name_u]June[/name_u] together; plus [name_f]Ines[/name_f] works well as a middle for either one. This is such a hard decision, but honestly, [name_u]June[/name_u] is much more common then [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], so that reason is to go with [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Ines[/name_f] to pair with [name_f]Leni[/name_f] Bloomās uniqueness!
Both are sweet names, but I think [name_u]June[/name_u] really has that same sunny, retro-cool feel that [name_f]Leni[/name_f] also has! Theyāre a lovely pair.
Iād vote for [name_u]June[/name_u] as a sibling to [name_f]Leni[/name_f], but you seem to love [name_f]Ruth[/name_f].
Nicknames for [name_u]June[/name_u]:
[name_u]Juno[/name_u]
[name_f]Una[/name_f]
Names that feel the same as Ruth/start with Ru:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_u]Rumi[/name_u]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_u]Rune[/name_u]
[name_f]Rumer[/name_f]
To me, [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is a bitter old woman. While [name_u]June[/name_u] is all summer sweetness and light. That comes from my personal experience with multiple Ruths though. Iām sure there are some lovely Ruths out there, I just havenāt encountered them. lol [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Ines[/name_f] fits perfectly with [name_f]Leni[/name_f] [name_f]Bloom[/name_f]. Congratulations!
Both names are cool and both sound great with your last name; but I canāt go past the breezy sophistication of [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Ines[/name_f]! I love [name_f]Juni[/name_f] (and, for fun, Junebug, [name_u]Juno[/name_u], Juneberry, [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] etc).I also agree with above that it would in fact balance the possible trio of names and better connect [name_f]Leni[/name_f] to the group.
But it seems your heart is with [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and the nn Ru. As mentioned in another thread, the three people I know with [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] as a first or second name donāt love it. Admittedly, they prob didnāt have cool parents and a sister called [name_f]Leni[/name_f], making [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] more of a good-vintage name. That and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_u]Bader[/name_u] Ginsburg is a wonderful namesake. I still think [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is a tad too harsh for me (and I like clunky, somewhat harsh names!) but it seems like itās the one you most want to use?
[name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Ines[/name_f] is my preference - bright, warm and lovely!
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is sharper but Ru softens it and makes it a bit more sparkly. Itās also a good choice and you seem slightly more excited about it?
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f]! I think itās more unexpected than [name_u]June[/name_u] but still fits so well together with [name_f]Leni[/name_f]. [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Ines[/name_f] is gorgeous.
Iāve always loved [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. It has never sounded harsh to me, I love its meaning ācompassionate friend.ā I like [name_u]June[/name_u], but [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] wins out for me.
Both on its own and with [name_f]Leni[/name_f] I prefer [name_u]June[/name_u]! It has the similar spunky cool feel that [name_f]Leni[/name_f] does. I think that [name_f]Leni[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u] and any of your boys name options would make a great set! [name_f]Leni[/name_f] [name_f]Bloom[/name_f] and [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_f]Ines[/name_f] sound like perfect sister names to me!
However, from the amount youāve written about [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], compared to [name_u]June[/name_u], it seems youāre really making the case for it. Iād pay attention to that.
I may be wrong as Iām reading between the lines a bit, but from what youāve said, [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] seems like the more meaningful choice, and [name_u]June[/name_u] almost feels like a an emptier, more stylistic and superficial choice around aesthetics and sound.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] a coin flip. See whether you feel excited or disappointed at what you get. Itās a good way to find out where your heart lies more.
