Ryeitt

Hello everyone! I’m not new to Nameberry, but I am a new member. I’ve obsessed with names as long as I can remember and have been wanting to make an account, but just hadn’t got to it. Which is where this name brings me. A picture on Facebook is going around with a little girl named Ryeitt. What does everyone think about it? My first thought seeing it was I liked how it looked (personally). Second thought was, this sounds exactly like “riot”. Inquiring minds want to know.

I think it’s fantastic. [name_u]Love[/name_u] even more that it looks to be pronounced “riot”

I don’t like the sound or spelling, personally.

As for the association with the word riot, I figure that’s too multifaceted a word to really say if it has a good or bad association. There’s a big grey area there in what is a riot and what is a protest, and what is and is not justified anger. It’s unlikely that you’ll totally agree with or totally disagree with 100% of riots that have happened. So that’s a hell of a gamble on a word. Beyond that, it strikes me as trying too hard and it makes me think of someone who adopts civil unrest and revolution as an “edgy aesthetic” rather than a symptom of real problems, power imbalances and systems of oppression.

I’m glad you like it so much! I adore names that I’ve never heard and it just caught my eye.

I knew a girl with this name from South [name_f]Africa[/name_f]. She pronounced it [name_f]REE[/name_f]-et. I think it’s cute.

Thanks for the reply! I like to know people’s opinions. Not everyone likes the same thing and it’s good to know how people feel or what people think. (: I’ll keep what you said in mind.

Good to know! (: cool to know someone has the name rather it’s pronounced different or not. I’m still learning how to reply to people. Haha

Pronounced Riot I don’t like it as that’s quite an angry name for someone to bear. I also think if you’re going to name your kid Riot you might as well own it and spell it correctly. [name_f]Ree[/name_f]-et is ok but not as intuitive.

I wish riot wasn’t a word because I think it sounds good minus the word association. Haha but I agree, it is a obvious association because it is a word.

I think it’s atrocious.

No worries! I appreciate the honesty.

I truly dislike it. The spelling is atrocious. If they really wanted to name her Riot (assuming that is what was the case), they should’ve at least spelled it correctly. As far as the sound, it definitely isn’t pleasant at all either.

That being said, I can’t decide if the word association is truly good or bad. I want to say bad, and my first impression was ‘bad’, because of all of the upheaval going on in the world today. Here in the states, there have been news of riots and people going around looting and shutting down normal functions of society (in one case, they blocked a highway so people couldn’t get home/to work/etc). Bad, huh? The issues lays in the reasons for the rioting…some are legitimate, or at least are legitimate in the rioters’ eyes. However, I’ve also encountered people who literally say “If I don’t get my way, I’ll riot.” This is truly murky territory, honestly. It’s highly emotional and goes beyond a word name “just sounding cute.” It’s just yet another addition to the ‘aggressive word name’ trend.

I think the spelling is terrible. It seems like it’s trying too hard to be unique.

Thanks for replying! (: I just wanted to know what people thought cause I’d never seen it. I guess you could say I like the “aggressive” names. [name_f]Kimber[/name_f], [name_m]Colt[/name_m], [name_u]Remington[/name_u], etc.

Thank you! (:

Personally I think Riot/Ryeitt would be pretty undesirable as a name for either gender. I think [name_f]Kimber[/name_f] and Tinleigh in your signature are nice though.

Thank you! (: [name_f]Kimber[/name_f] is my “for sure” girls name when I have one. It’s been decided since my fiancé suggested it.
