I grew up watching [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek with my dad, but completely forgot about [name_m]Will[/name_m] Riker (at least by name) until my partner binge-watched that series this winter. As others have said, the prison looms much larger in mind. I guess I’d rather people connect the name to the TV character, since he was an all-around good guy, than to an infamous prison.
I think of the character, but thats because I love the show (Riker and Data being my favorite characters). I didn’t even know Riker was the name of a prison until pretty recently, so I don’t really think of that when I hear the name.
I’ve seen [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek and didn’t even realize [name_m]Ryker[/name_m] was associated with it. I know a kid named [name_m]Ryker[/name_m] and I never once even thought of [name_f]Star[/name_f] Trek and I will probably forget there is even a connection before I see him next. I think you’re fine. Also, for what it’s worth, I’ve never heard of the prison everyone is talking about, so I never connected it to that either.
