Rylan

What do you think of [name_u]Rylan[/name_u] as a boys’ name?

It isn’t my style, too trendy. It may not be popular but it will get lost in the crowd of Ryans, Rileys, Ryders, Rykers, etc.

I don’t like it, sorry. And I agree with everything the pp said.

I prefer [name_u]Riley[/name_u] or [name_u]Ryan[/name_u].

I’ve never heard it before actually … I immediately think [name_u]Riley[/name_u] & [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] though. It’s not my style but its not super strange or anything. I don’t think it can’t be a boys name.

I prefer [name_m]Ryland[/name_m]. I think that [name_u]Rylan[/name_u] is too similar to [name_u]Ryan[/name_u] on first glance, so it would probably get mispronounced a lot.

I totally dislike it.

I agree with this. I realize in American English the final d in [name_m]Ryland[/name_m] is really hard to hear, but it’s still there, and [name_u]Rylan[/name_u] feels incomplete to me.

I first started liking this name when I was about ten. I saw it was the ln of an author and found it pleasant sounding.

Yes it’s trendy, but I’m gonna give it the benefit of the doubt since it is a surname. Compared to similar names of the style, I don’t think it’s bad. Yes it could be confused easily with other names, but that’s true for innumerable others as well.

I like [name_u]Rylan[/name_u]. Very nice.

It leans feminine to me.

I am British and there’s a very eccentric English TV presenter, singer, model and TV personality called [name_u]Rylan[/name_u] [name_m]Clark[/name_m], so I only associate it with him. Not a bad connection, but the only one I have. It’s completely masculine to me but I don’t particularly care for it, like I don’t care for [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_u]Ryan[/name_u].

I had a great student named [name_u]Rylan[/name_u] in the past, so it has a positive association for me, even though it’s not my personal style. There is a very clear “L” in there and so I don’t think it will actually get mixed up with [name_u]Ryan[/name_u].

Definitely not a fan at all. I know two young boys by this name and I cringe when I hear it. It just seems like a trendy but ‘trying to be different’ version of [name_u]Ryan[/name_u].

I think the name is fine, even though it sounds like a hybrid between [name_u]Riley[/name_u] and [name_u]Ryan[/name_u]. I would wait for a few weeks and say the name out loud, perhaps tell them to friends and family and figure out how comfortable you are with it. Good luck

I associate it to the show Justified with [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] Olyphant. It was set in Kentucky, so everything was a little country. I think initially I thought it was feminine, but after seeing it on the character, I think it goes either way.

Plus, in trying to name my own boy, I am convinced that ALL names have become girl names.

I know several boys named [name_u]Rylan[/name_u]/[name_m]Ryland[/name_m] and one girl. It’s very trendy to me.

I’m sorry, I don’t like it at all - but I don’t like any of the the amorphous, trendy Ri/[name_m]Ry[/name_m]- names that are floating around these days.

Also, I know someone who recently named her son Rylyn. I can tell you it has not grown on me at all in the two years I’ve scrolled past it in my newsfeed, and I often feel sorry for the kid when I see it.

I like it!!!

Give it a strong masculine middle name and you’re set.
