Alright, so I sort of like the name Rylant. Yes, for a girl. I’ve always liked the author [name]Cynthia[/name] Rylant and the nn [name]Rye[/name] appeals to me, but I’m not sure if Rylant is just a little too out-there and I’d love to know what all you Berries think! What kind of person do you picture when you hear the name? Is it a tomboy name or can you also see a beautiful, sophisticated girl? [name]Do[/name] you think the name could grow on you?
Also, if there are any other names that could have the nn [name]Rye[/name] that you like better than Rylant, I’d love to hear those too! I like [name]Moriah[/name] nn [name]Rye[/name], but can’t come up with any other options that I like.
I think that without the t on the end- just [name]Rylan[/name]- sounds less harsh. With the combination of the sounds and the t ending it just seems harsh to me for a girls name.
Rylant has a nice sound to it and at the very least will be very unique. The t is a little hard but it gives it character and style - gives it a great air of destination. I kind of like the nn Lanti for a girl. (More so than [name]Rye[/name], because it just makes me think of rye-whiskey).
If [name]Cynthia[/name] Rylant inspired the name and you like her work I would spell the name just like [name]Cynthia[/name] Rylants last name. That way she can easily say “my mommy named me after [name]Cynthia[/name] Rylant” instead of “my name is [name]Rylan[/name] because my mom wanted to name me after [name]Cythia[/name] Rylant, but didn’t like the harsh sound of the last name. Oh yeah and she didn’t like [name]Cynthia[/name] either.”
I think it would make a better middle name to be honest. I don’t know how you feel about unisex names in general but I would suggest a name like [name]Riley[/name]. I also recently met a woman named [name]Ryan[/name] and I thought that was so cool. Picturing it on a little girl is so adorable. It could give you a less unusual name (though uncommon for that gender) and you could still use the nn [name]Rye[/name]/[name]Ry[/name]. =]
It also reminds me of Reliant the energy company. There are some surnames that can potentially make good first names, I don’t think Rylant is one of them. Besides it sounds masculine. I much prefer [name]Riley[/name], [name]Mariah[/name], [name]Rhya[/name], [name]Riya[/name], Rya.
I don’t like it, Rylant sounds made up, and it makes me think of Violent. I can see your fondness of it, though. I prefer [name]Rylan[/name], or [name]Riley[/name].
Not a huge fan. For some reason, Rylant sounds more made up to me than Rylant, despite being a real (sur)name. Why not [name]Ryland[/name] or [name]Riley[/name]? Hmm, maybe [name]Ryder[/name]/[name]Rider[/name]?
Thank you all for your opinions! They are really helpful! I’ve also considered [name]Ryland[/name], but I’m unsure of it because it sounds a little more masculine to me than Rylant does. Any opinions on which one sounds more feminine?
Oh, and lexiem, I love the nn Lanti! That’s a great idea.
First thought that popped into my head with Rylant - Soylent [name]Green[/name]. I also disagree that it’s more feminine than [name]Ryland[/name]. [name]Ryland[/name] is soft unisex leaning feminine I think, Rylant sounds very hard and masculine to me.
I like this very much. [name]Sarai[/name] is so much more mysterious and evocative than [name]Sarah[/name], and the nickname [name]Rye[/name] is very cute.
