I’m just wondering what you think of the name Sacha as a boys name?
I come from Europe and there it’s predominantly used as a boys name, but I’ve heard that in the USA it’s become a common girls name.
I don’t mind unisex names, but I guess I wouldn’t want it to sound too girly. What do you think?
Also I potentially would like to pair with a Greek middle name (I have Greek heritage). My grandfather’s name was Dimitri, so was thinking Sacha James (English version of Dimitri) but do you have any other ideas? Thanks
My first son is called Leo Alastair for reference.
I do think it works! Here in the US it has a known association with a male celebrity (Sacha [name_m]Baron[/name_m] Cohen) but I definitely wouldn’t say that association is strong enough to render the name unusable, and it definitely wouldn’t be an “I get this all the time” name comparison situation. Though [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] (I’ve mostly seen this spelling) is a known girls’ name here, I’ve never actually met one. I don’t foresee many problems for a boy named [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] in the US, and I think it goes nicely with brother Leo. [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m] are both nice combos as well.
Though I’ve known both girls and boys named [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] / [name_u]Sascha[/name_u] / etc., I prefer it on boys. If someone calls out [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] / [name_u]Sascha[/name_u] / etc., I usually look for a male first. I think either [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_m]Dimitri[/name_m] would be great and fit well with Leo. Btw I’m in the US.
What about [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] nn Sacha? I’m from the US and think [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] (particularly this spelling) is generally thought to be feminine, but if I met a male with the name, I would quickly adjust and also assume he was European, which you are, so it all makes sense!
[name_u]Sacha[/name_u] / [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is great for a boy! I adore it - it’s one of my absolute favourites for a boy in particular. [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is lovely and I love it with Leo.
[name_f]Welcome[/name_f] back @fernpup and congratulations!
[name_u]Sacha[/name_u] (or Sasha) is my favourite boys’ name It’s predominantly female where I live in the UK too, but I’d still use it for a boy if I was ever lucky enough to have another one. I love softer-sounding boys’ names. [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is super handsome.
One thing that jumped out at me (but probably wouldn’t for lots of “normal” – i.e. non name-nerd – people!) is that [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] and [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] are forms of the same name, Alexander. I probably wouldn’t want to use both, personally, but on the other hand it could be a sweet connection, especially as one is only a middle name.
I think [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] is a fantastic name and because of [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_m]Baron[/name_m] [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] it’s very familiar as a boys’ name. I know a female [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] and a male [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] nickname Sash, which I really love in particular (not [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] so much but Sash). Anyway, I think [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is lovely and suits [name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] well.
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u] is more often a girls name in the US, but [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] is a more masculine spelling, I don’t think you would have trouble
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u] (this spelling) is used for girls here but I would say it’s unisex not feminine only and most people know that Sasha/Sacha can also be for boys. I like [name_u]Sacha[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] a lot!
