What do you think about the name [name_f]Saga[/name_f]?
I like the meaning and the association with Norse mythology. I don’t love that saga is a somewhat commonplace word, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it? Hate it? Any associations? Anything you think goes with it as a middle/sibling name?
It’s one of my guilty pleasures. I wouldn’t mind meeting a little [name_f]Saga[/name_f]! It’s in the same vein as [name_u]Story[/name_u], [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f], [name_f]Poem[/name_f], [name_f]Sonata[/name_f].
I like it! I think it has a unique sound, but still goes with a lot of other big names right now. I wouldn’t worry too much about the word association, just because word names are definitely in right now. Also, I think saga is a word that is familiar, but not a word you necessarily use all the time, which makes it perfect to use for a name.
Here are some combos that just randomly sprang to mind:
[name_f]Saga[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Saga[/name_f] [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]
[name_f]Saga[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Saga[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Saga[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]
[name_f]Saga[/name_f] [name_f]Wilhelmine[/name_f]
[name_f]Saga[/name_f] [name_u]Lark[/name_u]
[name_f]Saga[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Saga[/name_f]! It’s a huge GP of mine but feels like it should fit in with [name_u]Fable[/name_u], [name_u]Story[/name_u], and [name_u]Poet[/name_u]!
It’s not my favourite. I just don’t love the sound. I would also be concerned about possible teasing because of the “sag” part (in my school, “saggy” was used towards girls as an insult/put-down).
Love it! Have you seen The [name_m]Bridge[/name_m]? [name_f]Saga[/name_f] (pronounced SAY-ga or SAW-ga depending on language: it’s Swedish/Danish) Noren is a very strong, idiosyncratic and interesting character.
I absolutely adore [name_f]Saga[/name_f] (love the poetry/seer meaning and Old Norse connections) and would use it as a first name if it hadn’t been vetoed… I get that in [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking countries it does tend to be perceived as an unusual word name like [name_u]Fable[/name_u] or [name_u]Story[/name_u] (which is why my wife doesn’t like it ), but in the Nordic countries it’s a pretty common & very normal name.
Sibling names to go with [name_f]Saga[/name_f] could be…
[name_f]Tove[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_m]Miro[/name_m]
[name_m]Espen[/name_m]
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_u]Ash[/name_u]
Short and simple names generally go well with [name_f]Saga[/name_f], I think.
Saga is rather popular in Scandinavian countries, so it feels very familiar to me. I still like it though. The first thing I think of when I meet someone named [name_f]Saga[/name_f] is The [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] (which I love).
I have seen The [name_m]Bridge[/name_m]!! Nordic Noir isn’t big in the US, but I’ve managed to watch everything available (or with a VPN🤫).
I like the character - abrasiveness and quirks, too. I appreciate how it somewhat translates to the sounds and strengths of the name. It’s not particularly frilly and has a power to it. I may use this as an excuse to rewatch…
I love love love the poetry and Norse connections too. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I don’t love that people in [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking countries won’t know all those associations, I think they may have an easier time pronouncing it/it sounds familiar because it’s a “word name.” To me it goes with [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Freja[/name_f], [name_f]Ingeborg[/name_f] - but if their thought is [name_u]Story[/name_u], [name_u]Lyric[/name_u], [name_u]Poet[/name_u] I guess that’s not bad
I don’t care for it personally. It feels very new age-y or space themed for some reason (probably because of the [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars [name_f]Saga[/name_f], which is generally my first thought.) I didn’t even know that it had history in Norse mythology, I just think of the word.
