Over the past (nearly exactly!) year I’ve been on nameberry, I’ve been slowly accumulating a list of top names for my future kids. Well, that task ends today at a total of 20 unique combos (and Hebrew translations! Does that make this a top 40 ). Explanations of meaning in the summary, pronunciations at the bottom. There is no particular order after the first 3 names!
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] “[name_f]Esty[/name_f]” - [name_f]Ester[/name_f] [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f]
Summary
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] is a combination of both my grandmother’s names. [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] is an honor for my grandfather. Together, the names mean “[name_f]Star[/name_f] lily” which has beautiful imagery, it almost sounds like a constellation. Hopefully a future daughter can see the same beauty and grandeur in the night sky as I can.
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] “[name_f]Lila[/name_f]” - [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Rut[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “Delicate friend”. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is another of my oldest name loves. The meaning refers to how friendship is a delicate thing that needs to be nurtured and cared for if you want it to grow. Hopefully I can raise a good friend.
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f] “[name_f]Callie[/name_f]” - [name_f]Alma[/name_f] [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “[name_m]Young[/name_m] woman of spring”. There are a lot of spring birthdays in my family, and this would be a fun way to honor them. [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] is also a beautiful and timeless name with a meaning related to freedom.
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] “[name_f]Rosa[/name_f]” - [name_f]Raisa[/name_f] [name_u]Paz[/name_u]
Summary
Meaning “[name_u]Golden[/name_u] rose”. Another name with beautiful imagery. I considered [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] for a while but [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] has a stronger sound. [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] is a very cheerful name that could work at any age.
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] - [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Sara[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “[name_f]Princess[/name_f] in life”. I choose to interpret that as having the strength to manage a lot of people and using that power for good. [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] also means “Wished for child”, and any daughter that I have would be a very wanted presence in my life.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] - [name_f]Sigal[/name_f] Eliyora
Summary
Meaning “[name_f]Violet[/name_f] light from God”. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a very strong name to me and I adore the nickname [name_f]Vi[/name_f]. [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] refers to how she would be a light for me and the rest of my family.
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] - [name_f]Keren[/name_f] [name_f]Miryam[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “[name_u]Ray[/name_u] of bitter light”. Any child would be a motivating light in my life, and every girl deserves to have a healthy amount of bitterness in their lives. Personally, I’d prefer for that to take the form of a biting sense of humor, but I’d settle for whatever makes her happy.
[name_f]May[/name_f] [name_f]Adina[/name_f] - [name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Adina[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “Delicate water”. Another name with beautiful imagery. [name_f]May[/name_f] is short, strong yet sweet, and feminine without being frilly. I hope that all my children grow to know that there is no one way to be feminine or masculine and that they instead present as whoever they want!
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Anina[/name_f] - [name_f]Adara[/name_f] [name_f]Chana[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “[name_u]Noble[/name_u] and graceful”. I hope that a future daughter could hold their head high and be proud of who they are, and the names [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Adara[/name_f] embody those qualities for me. [name_f]Anina[/name_f] and [name_f]Chana[/name_f] are forms of my Mom’s name, and while I don’t want to honor her she was the first person I saw who behaved proudly and tried to teach me to do the same.
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] “[name_u]Josie[/name_u]” - Yakira [name_u]Liron[/name_u]
Summary
Meaning “[name_f]My[/name_f] precious song”. A reference to the prayers and hopes my ancestors had for her and the future, while making it clear that she will always be precious and important in my eyes.
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_u]June[/name_u] - [name_f]Liba[/name_f] Zivit
Summary
Meaning “Brilliant love”. I hope that no matter how many times my daughter has her heart broken, she keeps loving just as strongly as she did before. [name_u]June[/name_u] is also a reference to pride month, and a reminder that it doesn’t matter who she loves or how she identifies, she will always be loved by her family.
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] “[name_f]Cassie[/name_f]” - [name_f]Kelilah[/name_f] [name_f]Ilana[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “Crown of laurel trees”. I love the nickname [name_f]Cassie[/name_f], but I have fallen out of love with [name_f]Cassandra[/name_f] and was never that big of a fan of [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]. [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] comes from a spin on “[name_f]Cathy[/name_f]” and an “s” middle name helps fully sell it. [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] trees are also very pretty, so another point to [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] as the perfect [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] name.
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Arella[/name_f] - Meira [name_u]Ariel[/name_u]
Summary
Meaning “Giving light to the lion of God”. I have always loved the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and I’m finally embracing it as a full name instead of just a nickname. [name_f]Arella[/name_f] is a beautiful name first suggested to me by @anon57824181 and it has quickly wormed it’s way into my heart as a variant of [name_f]Ariella[/name_f]. No special story behind the meaning besides just plain old beautiful imagery!
[name_f]Nina[/name_f] [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] “[name_f]Penina[/name_f]” - Nili [name_f]Pnina[/name_f]
Summary
Alright, I know you guys hate this one. Meaning “The eternity of [name_u]Israel[/name_u] will not lie” and “pearl” (Nili is an acronym name!). I love [name_f]Penina[/name_f] but acknowledge it’s probably best suited for a family nickname, and [name_f]Nina[/name_f] gives the bonus of being able to have Nili as a Hebrew name!
[name_f]Malina[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] - [name_m]Noam[/name_m] [name_f]Rina[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “[name_f]Pleasant[/name_f] song”. [name_f]Malina[/name_f] means raspberry, which is one of my favorite fruits. I hope that my children will always be happy no matter what life throws at them, and continue to sing and share their joy with the world.
[name_f]Samira[/name_f] [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] - [name_f]Shamira[/name_f] [name_f]Zelde[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “Protector of happiness”. I hope that my future daughter is able to prioritize her happiness in a relationship and stand up for herself, even against family too. [name_f]Zelde[/name_f] is an alternative transcription of [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], which helps distance it from the video game character.
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] - [name_f]Ayelet[/name_f] [name_f]Nava[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “Beauty of the morning star”. Both names are absolutely stunning to me (Thanks @Greyblue for suggesting [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Annelise[/name_f]!) and while their meanings aren’t connected, they share the same timeless quality to me. Hopefully a future daughter can see the beauty and freedom of dawn and new days the same way I can.
[name_f]Linnea[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - [name_f]Leah[/name_f] [name_f]Ahava[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “[name_f]My[/name_f] weary love”. I just love the imagery of the meaning for this one, and [name_f]Lea[/name_f] or [name_f]Linnie[/name_f] are adorable nicknames for a little girl!
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Reina[/name_f] - [name_f]Chaya[/name_f] [name_f]Reina[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “Pure life”. I hope that my daughter is able to live a life that is true and beautiful to herself and her dreams. Nicknames [name_f]Viv[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] are perfect for a young girl and teenager, while [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is professional and strong enough for whatever she wants to do in life.
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] - [name_f]Avigail[/name_f] [name_f]Aliza[/name_f]
Summary
Meaning “[name_f]My[/name_f] father is happy because I am happy”. I hope that my children know that I will be happy with whatever they do in life, and that I will be proud and love them no matter what, especially if they are happy with themselves.
