Sally Sparrow?

What do you think? Too obviously fangirl, or subtle enough to escape too much notice?

This is just for fun

I love it, though I’m a big Who fan and that was one of my favorite episodes. Given most people don’t use their middle name on a daily basis, I don’t think it would be too obvious. If that is what it is, a first and middle name. If not, then it might be a bit too much. All in all though, it’s a cute and usable name.

For what it’s worth, I had/have no idea what [name_f]Sally[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] might make you a fan of.

Actually, I thought the name sounded so much like an [name_f]Alice[/name_f] Hoffman character that I had to verify it wasn’t! For the record, there is an [name_m]AH[/name_m] character named [name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] but no [name_f]Sally[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f].

[name_f]Sally[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] sounds like a cartoon charcter a la [name_f]Betty[/name_f] Boop (maybe a little sweeter and less voluptuous).

I love [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who to death, but I think the connection is too strong. [name_f]Sally[/name_f] on its own is fine, or [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] as a middle name - but I’ve never been a fan of directly naming after characters. A small homage to a fictional work/character you really love is fine (I may very well use [name_f]Rose[/name_f] or [name_f]Martha[/name_f], myself), but making the whole name about it seems a bit too fangirly.

I’m a die hard [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who fan and Blink has to be in my top five favourite episodes, but I think it would be fine as long as you use [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] as a middle name and not a sort of double barrel name.

I probably won’t actually use this (mostly because [name_f]Sally[/name_f] seems an incomplete first to me), but the idea of naming a kid [name_f]Sally[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] (and yes, [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] as a middle, definitely not a double-barreled fn). But I do love bird middles, and I love subtly fangirling (captainawkwardpants, I’ve got [name_f]Rose[/name_f] on my list as well!)

My friend and I are coming up to the re-watch of that episode and I’m afraid it’s not going to be as good as I remember. I’m ready to count the Moffatisms…
sigh

I don’t know about this one. If you’re a [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who fan then you’ll get it straight away. If not… well, it’s not too bad as a first and middle. Not my style but not terrible. Personally though I couldn’t bring myself to use a name said writer had made up.

I’m on the fence here. Personally, I’d never use it because I don’t like the name [name_f]Sally[/name_f] as a first. Together the name works, but just [name_f]Sally[/name_f] is sort of meh in my opinion. [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] is great, though I prefer it for the boys. If I met a girl named [name_f]Sally[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] I’d probably smile and hope to geek out with her.

I think it’s a little bit too much haha.

As that is one of my most favorite episodes [name_u]EVER[/name_u], all I can see is [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who. But I don’t think that anyone who isn’t a Whovian will get the connection.

I adore [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] as a middle. Perhaps [name_f]Sara[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], nicknamed [name_f]Sally[/name_f]?

I would say too strong. Not because I think our fellow Whovians will recognize your daughters name, but because you would be essentially giving a new human being a name of a whole other person. I am all for honor names, but not the entire full name. Sure, name your kid [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], but naming him [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] is a bit strange (to me that is…) That being said, I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the name [name_f]Sally[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f], so I would say if you want to name your daughter after [name_f]Sally[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] from Who, then no. Not [name_f]Sally[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] Surname. but if you want to name her [name_f]Sally[/name_f] [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] because you heard the name while watch [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] Who and loved it - then I say go for it! Does that make sense?

I’m not a Who fan so I wouldn’t catch the ‘fan girl’ effect, but I do think it sounds like a cartoon character from some kids story
