Same beginnings for twin names

What do you think of twin names that start with the same sound but different letters like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]? [name_m]How[/name_m] about same letters but different sounds like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_m]Peter[/name_m]? [name_m]How[/name_m] about the same letter, but the nicknames are different letters like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] “[name_f]Milly[/name_f]” and [name_f]Eve[/name_f]?

Personally I’m alright with twin names starting with the same letter/sound, but I prefer the names to have different sounds on the whole. For example, I wouldn’t want twins name [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] and [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f], [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] and [name_f]Christal[/name_f]/Chrystal or [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Milly[/name_f], but twins named [name_f]Tara[/name_f] and [name_m]Todd[/name_m] or [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] would be alright to me.

I have a set of twins in my family tree named Vërᴀ Lënörë and Vërnön Lëröy. Way too close for me. I’ve said the names a few times together, and stumbled through them.

I think I just like twin sets that go together style-wise. Same sound, same letters, nicknames with different letters are all fine, though I think I would rearrange your examples a bit. Like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] or [name_m]Peter[/name_m] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f]. That said, I do like cutesy sibsets that others might not, like [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] and [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] or [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Dottie[/name_f].

I think that’s fine!
It’s always nice to have them a bit different from one another, but it really just depends on what you like.

I also agree with pp, when the name styles go well together, it works better!
(So maybe; [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] & [name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]).

I’m a twin, and my brother and I have different beginnings of first names. However, our mn kind of overlap ([name_f]Margaret[/name_f] & [name_m]Garrett[/name_m]), completely not intentional, they’re honor names.

I think any of the options you listed could work! I don’t mind shared letters/sounds as long as most of the sounds in the names are different. I do tend to prefer different initials for siblings generally, and it’s no different for twins, but that’s 100% personal preference–not something I think should be a rule by any means!

None of those examples bother me in the slightest! A thread from a couple of months ago was discussing [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] as brothers, which I think is super cute!

I think it’s fine - so long as the names are individual enough, it’s not a problem. [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] all sound distinctive enough that they’re not too matchy

I think those examples are fine and not a problem. The only twin names I would recommend against are rhyming names (e.g. [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]) or ridiculously similar names (e.g. [name_u]Julian[/name_u] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]).

I am not a big fan of same letter twin names, but if these letters have different sounds it doesn’t botter me at all.

I love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] together! I think most combos are ok as long as they don’t rhyme. In other words, I would choose [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] or even [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] before [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
Then again, my twins are [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] and [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] and do have very similar/almost rhyme-y endings but that wasn’t intentional. :joy:

So [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] or [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] sound fine to me- they’re not too close in sound though they have some similarity. I wouldn’t name them something like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] though that would be too close.
