Same initial for twin names?

[name]Just[/name] out of curiousity, how do you all feel about twins having the same first initial?

Let me be clear. I really don’t care for it for same-gender twins because it could have the potential to cause confusion, but what about for boy/girl? I’m thinking as long as the names are distinctly feminine or masculine, it would be excusable. What are your thoughts?

I find nothing worng with this.

I agree with jaderain, there isn’t anything wrong with it. It would be better if they look and are pronounced different for less confusion.

Agreed. Nothing wrong…

Personally I wouldn’t. They’re two different people, why do they have to have the same initial? There are so many other names with matching meanings/origins that go so well together. I just wouldn’t pick matching names for the sake of them being twins. But that’s probably just me

If you would use the names separately (if you had a boy and then a girl separately, or vice versa) I wouldn’t hesitate to use names with the same initial. I do strongly believe that you should be gender specific especially with boy/girl twins. I wouldn’t name boy/girl twins [name]Mason[/name] and [name]Morgan[/name] for example, or [name]Rory[/name] and [name]Riley[/name].

Personally I do not like it, but I don’t see anything wrong with it.

My name is [name]Lindsey[/name] and my twin’s name is [name]Lacey[/name] and I have never had any problem with our names sounding similar- I have always preferred it. But my mom also gave me, my sister, and my brother all the same 3 initials. Which probably would get a negative reaction on here- but me and my siblings all either dont think anything of it or actually like the connection!

I don’t think I would purposely go about it to have the same initials. I love [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name] or [name]Eliza[/name] and [name]Elliot[/name] for twins, but it wasn’t like I just set out to find a matchy twinset one day. I sort of discovered them accidentally. But if they’re distinct and complement each other well, why not? I think something like [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name], or [name]Juliet[/name] and [name]James[/name], or [name]Caleb[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name], or [name]Hannah[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name], etc. could really work.

My sister and I are identical twins and both of our names start with M. They aren’t similar sounding and nothing cutesy so it’s never bothered me.

I agree with [name]Ash[/name], she said it very well indeed!

I actually like it especially when the names are distinct despite having the same initial. I don’t really like overly matchy ones.

I agree with ashthedreamer’s examples. They could really work and I personally like them.

I personally like it as along as the names are different beyond the first letter, whether it be for multiples or siblings. I wouldn’t do something like [name]Lucas[/name] and [name]Louis[/name], or [name]Melanie[/name] and [name]Melody[/name]. But [name]Lucas[/name] and [name]Leonard[/name], and [name]Melanie[/name] and [name]Maya[/name] would be fine. Personally, I like alliteration. My son’s name is [name]Luther[/name] and I would easily pick a name for my next that starts with an L.

I dont see anything wrong with it.

I’m pregnant with twins, and I wouldnt purposely do the same initial thing, just because I wouldn’t want to limit myself to just one letter, but if I happened to like two names that start with the same name then I would use them!

I have twin brothers and always liked that their names aren’t matchy. [name]Just[/name] cause they’re so matchy in so many other ways.

For boy/girl twins… I guess the way I feel about it is, if you like those names on their own merits, then yeah. Like, if your favorite names are [name]Sabrina[/name] and [name]Silas[/name], then use them. But I wouldn’t pick the names just so they match.

However, I don’t see anything wrong with it at all. It’s just a matter of personal preference.

I have b/g twin nephew and niece named [name]Van[/name] and [name]Vivien[/name] nn [name]Vivi[/name]. They picked [name]Van[/name]'s name out first and almost named the girl [name]Grace[/name] but she was so rambunctious in the womb that they knew she was so full of life, so they had to pick [name]Vivien[/name]. All in all, I don’t mind the same initial for b/g twins, even if you are doing it to be a little matchy, as long as the names aren’t the same name (ex [name]Andrew[/name] and [name]Andrea[/name]) or make their genders ambiguous. For same-sex twins, I wouldn’t do it to be matchy, but if you just happened to like two names that began with the same letter, no big deal.

I’ll echo what some others have said: If you like the two names with the same initials on their own accords, then I see no problem with it. I don’t think I’d specifically look for 2 names that I liked that had the same letter - I’d have to really like each of them as a singleton’s name, and then use them both because there are 2 children.

And no, I wouldn’t use matchy-matchy names, regardless of how much I liked each of them.

I have friends who aren’t twins but names are [name]Megan[/name] [name]Nicole[/name] N and [name]Morgan[/name] [name]McKenna[/name] N because Mom wanted opposing monograms but it doesn’t bother them and I think the rhyming almost identical names would be just as bad whether you are twins or just siblings. Personally I like the way [name]Morgan[/name] and [name]Megan[/name] sound but I always call them the wrong name even after 10 years and I think that would bother me, but then my name sounds nothing like my cousins’, moms’, or aunts’ and I get called their names by other family members all the time. So I don’t think it really matters they’re your kids if you like the sound and don’t make a big deal of fretting over it when they are little, they won’t either.

I knew twins named [name]Kendra[/name] and [name]Kendric[/name]. Enough said. Personally I have always prefered twins with different first initials. [name]Amanda[/name] and [name]Alexis[/name] were still confusing to everyone, partly due to they looked alike. Maybe if you varied the number of syllables like [name]Mark[/name] and [name]Melissa[/name], [name]Clark[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Felicity[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name]. Oh also names that are very unusual will sound like you really wanted them to be matchy even if just loved them. For example [name]Zoya[/name] and [name]Ziva[/name] (I love these names) would sound too themey. Or [name]Xanthe[/name] and [name]Xavier[/name], [name]Seeley[/name] and [name]Severin[/name], [name]Lilac[/name] and [name]Lavender[/name], etc.

Being a twin(I hav a twin brother), I dont really care for it, but all my sibs either have a J-name or a K-name. But if ur going with one letter for all, than dont make it a priority.
