Same sounding but completely different MNs

Hey, it’s me again!

So for our boy’s name that begins with the letter C, my husband and I really like the middle name [name_u]Rain[/name_u] or [name_u]Reign[/name_u]. Obviously, they have completely different meanings. (I’m leaning towards [name_u]Reign[/name_u], but wonder if it might sound pretentious?)

Which do you prefer and why? Last name is [name_u]Carter[/name_u] if that matters.

[name_u]Rain[/name_u] - this gives me a nature, laid-back, casual association.
[name_u]Reign[/name_u] - I do think this is snobbish, sorry.

I obviously prefer [name_u]Rain[/name_u], but I guess it’s up to you if you think it’s too “hippy” or not. [name_u]Reign[/name_u] is a bit much for me…kind of like [name_m]King[/name_m], [name_m]Prince[/name_m], [name_u]Messiah[/name_u], [name_f]Queen[/name_f]. It’s a lot for a child to bear! However, you are using it in the middle which makes it less important. [name_m]Raines[/name_m] could be an alternative - it’s a surname.

Thank you! I appreciate your feedback and that’s definitely something to consider. And I’m glad someone gave me an honest opinion so I can cross [name_u]Reign[/name_u] off my list and move closer towards the best decision.

I find [name_u]Rain[/name_u] very feminine, so would probably lean towards [name_u]Reign[/name_u]. [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] and [name_m]Justinian[/name_m] are on my middle name list though and a lot of people could find those extremely upperclass/snobbish/pretentious/etc. [name_u]Rain[/name_u] probably presents fewer problems.

I prefer [name_u]Rain[/name_u]. I think of [name_u]Rain[/name_u] as a source of life, a sort of natural miracle that enables all beings on earth to thrive. [name_u]Reign[/name_u] is more an image of domination or power so it’s less appealing when I directly compare the two.

Those are such interesting perspectives! Thanks lots.

Definitely [name_u]Rain[/name_u]. [name_u]Reign[/name_u] sounds so faux-celebrity (sorry for honest opinion!)

Yes, definitely [name_u]Rain[/name_u] for me also, for all the reasons mentioned upthread. Plus, [name_u]Reign[/name_u] has a bit of a “creative spelling” vibe to me - the look of it is reminiscent of the Reighleigh/Beighleigh/Heighleigh school of naming where it seems like the more complicated you can make the spelling, the better. Keep it simple I say.

[name_m]Ah[/name_m]. Very good point. Thank you for the honest opinions
