We have finally narrowed our list down to these three names.
Samuel
Alexander
Nathaniel
Which is your favourite? And what sort of vibe do you get for each one? We would be using Sam, Alex, or Nathan/Nate as nicknames.
Thanks for your help!

[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]!
I vote for [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]. All the names you’ve listed are great, but I think there’s just something awesome about a [name_u]Sam[/name_u]!
I adore [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].
I have a [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] so I am a little biased.
Having said that, he’s 7 and I still adore his name. He goes by [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] most of the time but the other day asked me to call him [name_m]Nate[/name_m] ; )
My advice is decide which nickname you like the most and go from there.
This is so tough because I love all 3! In this case I will go with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]. My reasoning is because I much prefer [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] to [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and would prefer [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] as a full name and I don’t like the nn [name_u]Alex[/name_u] for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I can’t find anything to criticize about [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u] though
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Nate[/name_m]!
Im not a fan of [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], so my choice would be between [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]!
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] has my heart.
I like [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] quite a lot–he feels strong, regal. His personality, to me, seems to be the equivalent of the way a soldier carries himself. I don’t know if that makes sense? Maybe it’s the whole tie to [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] the Great, but I come from an [name_f]Air[/name_f] Force family, and so I’ve been on several different AF bases, and (at least in the [name_f]Air[/name_f] Force!) they have a very particular carriage. Shoulders erect, walking with a purpose. Stoic, in a way, proud, strong, powerful. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] feels like that to me. I like him a lot, but I prefer the nns Skandar and [name_u]Sasha[/name_u] to [name_u]Alex[/name_u] (but ultimately, nns are a personal choice, and it didn’t really weigh on my decision, as I like [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] better than [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].)
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] I like quite a lot, too (as you can see by my signature!), and [name_m]Nate[/name_m] is super handsome, but it’s never completely resonated with me. I think of a guy who loves classic literature and lives in the swashbuckling world of the three musketeers and [name_m]Edmond[/name_m] Dantes, who knows all about The [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] Letter and The Crucible and rereads A Tale of Two Cities every year because it’s his favorite. He’s intelligent and wise and down-to-earth, and probably becomes a literature professor when he grows up. He’s also very friendly and approachable.
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m], however, is always very cuddly to me. Adorable little boy with a big heart, always doing something out of kindness to make the world a better place. He’s intelligent and wise beyond his words, and loves nothing more than cuddling up with a good book with mama just before bed. He probably plays baseball or soccer as he gets a bit older, and discovers a love for chemistry in high school. He’s a gallant romantic, and as he gets older, he’s an impeccable date, but it takes him years to find a girl worth committing to. He may play a musical instrument, although probably not guitar. Maybe piano, violin, or the drums. One day, he’ll be the best dad in the world. I’m not sure what he’d be when he grows up–maybe a music teacher (high school), a youth pastor, an FBI agent, a baseball coach, or a writer.
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Samuel[/name_m].
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a MN picked out? I think [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] would be dreamy if you don’t–or maybe [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]?
Good luck!
All three are great names but I know too many [name_u]Alexes[/name_u]. I would favor [name_m]Nate[/name_m] or [name_u]Sam[/name_u], with [name_u]Sam[/name_u] winning by a small margin because I’m rewatching the [name_u]West[/name_u] [name_m]Wing[/name_m] right now and I love the [name_u]Sam[/name_u] Seaborne character.
Thank you to everybody for responding, your opinions help a lot.
We have decided that we are going to use [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] for the MN; it’s one I’ve wanted to use all along, but my husband is hesitant since there is already an [name_u]Alex[/name_u] in the family, although he is much older.
So that leaves [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] for the first place. [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] is hubby’s favourite, and I prefer [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], but we are both willing to use either one.
Our son is already a week old, and is currently waiting for us to make our decision. I’ll let you know once we finally decide.
[name_u]Alex[/name_u] and [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] are two of my favourites so probably [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] or [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m].
