[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Everyone! I’m wondering what your thoughts are on the name [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] nn [name_u]Sam[/name_u]. It’s probably one of my favorites right now, but I can’t seem to get past the fact that I also know a few Samanthas that go by [name_u]Sam[/name_u]. I feel pretty strongly about not using unisex names, however I just can’t seem to get the name [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]/[name_u]Sam[/name_u] out of my head. And both my other kids love [name_u]Sam[/name_u]! My husband is 50/50 for the same reasons. My question is, is [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]/[name_u]Sam[/name_u] for a girl still popular or becoming popular these days? I feel like it was maybe more of a 90s thing, but my friend said her daughter had a [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and a [name_u]Sammie[/name_u] in her class this year that were both girls. I also like [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]/[name_m]Matt[/name_m] and my two other boys are [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]/[name_m]Ben[/name_m] and [name_m]Joshua[/name_m]/[name_m]Josh[/name_m]. So, I tend to like pretty traditional names that are either short, or have a longer name that can be shortened. Any suggestions appreciated!
Please think about what you’re saying. You’re afraid to name your son [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] because he might meet female Sams. Wow.
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] are different names with the same nickname. Not unisex. There will always be male and female Sams. I have them both every year in the classes I teach. It’s not a problem- [name_u]Sam[/name_u] is just a likeable name.
Like the previous poster said, [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] isn’t unisex, it’s male. [name_u]Sam[/name_u] is simply a nickname used by both men and women.
