My husband and I are going back and forth between [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] and [name_u]Nico[/name_u]. The middle name
will most likely be [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] which is a family name. We both like [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] but I’m concerned people will shorten it to “[name_m]Santi[/name_m]” which I’m not crazy about. [name_u]Nico[/name_u] is short enough on its own but I wonder if it will serve him well in adulthood or if it sounds like a kid’s name. My husband doesn’t like [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] so it would just be [name_u]Nico[/name_u]. Thoughts? Ideas?
I love [name_u]Nico[/name_u]! It’s fine on it’s own, but if you do want a longer name, what do you think of [name_m]Dominic[/name_m]? [name_m]Mario[/name_m] Lopez just used this for his son who goes by [name_u]Nico[/name_u].
I find both very handsome, but I adore [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] overall. I met a little boy with this name recently so it really endeared it to me. I don’t think people shortening it would be a huge problem. Some might think to call him [name_m]Tiago[/name_m] before [name_m]Santi[/name_m] if any nickname, I would imagine.
I prefer [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] for a first name, and it sounds handsome with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. his nickname could be [name_m]Santos[/name_m]. or his first name could be [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] with the middle name of [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m]. if [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] is the first name however, he could still have [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] as middle name. So options could be:
[name_m]Santiago[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] nickname santos
[name_m]Santiago[/name_m] [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m]
[name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] with the nn niko or [name_u]Kai[/name_u]
or, depending on how long your surname is, you could give him two middles and this could appeal to you more and or solve the decision making…example:
[name_m]Santiago[/name_m] [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] or [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] [name_m]Santiago[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_u]Nicky[/name_u] sounds like a kid’s name, but I find [name_u]Nico[/name_u] to be very dashing. I think it would transition fine into adulthood. I also prefer it to [name_m]Santiago[/name_m], but I tend to prefer pared down, simpler names so it could just be a difference of styles.
With [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], I think the shorter [name_u]Nico[/name_u] is the winner? My favourite [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] version is the Russian [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m]. There are boys being called names like [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_m]Rico[/name_m] nowadays so I don’t think [name_u]Nico[/name_u] lacks substance as a first name.
