My BF is now stuck on the name [name_f]Sarita[/name_f] as a given name. I don’t mind it as a nn, but I do NOT like it as a given name. I also wpuldnt want her to be called [name_f]Rita[/name_f], although I like the name, it’s not for me.
I find [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]/[name_f]Sara[/name_f] a little too simple/common for my taste, so I’m wondering if [name_f]Sarita[/name_f] could work as a nickname for [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]?
This baby will be 1/2 Mexican, but our last name is notably Irish. She’ll more than likely be “Spanish looking” however, so I can’t decide if it would seem out of place.
Other Spanish names you like? DH like girly, frilly “princess names” but nothing with a strong association or too “old sounding”. I like unusual names with historic or literary references. (Him: [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Ariana[/name_f], me: [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f], [name_f]Marisol[/name_f]).
Our agreed upon list as of now is [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f].
Spanish names I like:
[name_f]Esmerelda[/name_f] “too Notre Dame”
[name_f]Marisol[/name_f] “sounds like a cleaning product”
[name_f]Itzel[/name_f] (haven’t even suggested it but I know it’s too “out there”)
I’m basically looking for something in the style of [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]/[name_f]Alessandra[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], but more uncommon.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like the [name_f]Sarafina[/name_f] spelling? I think [name_f]Sarita[/name_f] would definitely work as a nn for that. Or does your boyfriend like [name_f]Serita[/name_f], which would work better for [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]?
I love [name_f]Marisol[/name_f]! Of the ones you both agree on I like [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sarafina[/name_f]/[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f].
You can use about whatever you want for a nn [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_f]Sarita[/name_f] for [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] isn’t very intuitive and it only knocks off a syllable, so it doesn’t really make “sense” per se, but if it’s a workable compromise to make the official name be [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and the daily name be [name_f]Sarita[/name_f], then do it!
Other princess names that come to mind…
[name_f]Oriana[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophronia[/name_f]
[name_f]Iolanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
Iselda
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]
And might I recommend [name_f]Dulcinea[/name_f]! Spanish for the daddy, [name_m]Don[/name_m] [name_m]Quixote[/name_m] reference for the mommy. [name_f]Dulce[/name_f]/[name_f]Dulcie[/name_f] is the most popular nn for it, though we use [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] because it’s my mom’s favorite flower. Doesn’t make sense to some people but the sounds are there and it works for us.
[name_f]Sarita[/name_f] reminds me a little of [name_f]Soraya[/name_f], which may or may not be right up your and your boyfriend’s alley - kind of princessy but not excessively frilly. There’s also the lovely [name_f]Serena[/name_f]. (I don’t think either of these has any Spanish heritage, they just sounded similar enough that they came to mind.)
I think using [name_f]Sarita[/name_f] as a nickname for a [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] would work just fine.
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] might be up his alley. Also as a bonus you could nn her [name_f]Adora[/name_f], (love).
Elletra- A pretty Latin sounding choice.
[name_f]Josepha[/name_f]/ [name_f]Josephina[/name_f]- Pretty Spanish variations on [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
I think you could use [name_f]Sarita[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] as well. It shares enough of the same sounds not to be an “out there” nn. Good luck!
I am a fan of not-so-obvious nicknames and I think [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sarita[/name_f] doesn’t really make sense. They’re like… only sharing the same initial. [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] works better here, but I agree that it’s kind of too simple. What about [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]? [name_f]Sarita[/name_f] means princess, and [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] is a legendary princess. Maybe it can be a nice alternative. I also like [name_f]Tatiana[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] (and [name_f]Itzel[/name_f]!) from your list.
Other ideas:
[name_f]Arianne[/name_f]/[name_f]Ariadna[/name_f] - I kinda see them as alternatives between [name_f]Ariana[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Rowena[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Demetria[/name_f]
[name_f]Estella[/name_f]
[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]
[name_f]Talitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandria[/name_f]/[name_f]Alexandrina[/name_f]
Oh and [name_f]Josefina[/name_f] is an American girl doll, with books!, who is Mexican American. So that might be a plus for [name_f]Josefina[/name_f].
you might like [name_f]Sarina[/name_f]! It’s an elaboration of [name_f]Sara[/name_f] and a full name, as opposed to [name_f]Sarita[/name_f].
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] alternatives could be [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabella[/name_f], [name_f]Anabella[/name_f], Rosabella, [name_f]Ariella[/name_f].
Maybe you also like [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Natalia[/name_f], [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], [name_f]Julieta[/name_f], [name_f]Violeta[/name_f], [name_f]Romina[/name_f], [name_f]Rafaela[/name_f], [name_f]Florencia[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], [name_f]Naiara[/name_f], [name_f]Mireya[/name_f], [name_f]Ainara[/name_f], [name_f]Nayeli[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadna[/name_f]…
If you both like [name_f]Sarita[/name_f] but find [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] too plain, I wonder if you’ll like [name_f]Sarai[/name_f]? I know two spunky Latina women named [name_f]Sarai[/name_f], so it’s not unheard of. It’s also not super popular either. And when pronounced correctly in spanish I think it sounds just gorgeous. Although my one friend gets called “[name_f]Sarah[/name_f]” by mistake by non-native speakers when people first meet her, a quick correction and they usually get it right. But that’s true for a lot of names I think
I absolutely love Spanish names! Some of my favorites are [name_f]Maribel[/name_f], [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Delia[/name_f], [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_u]Isa[/name_u], [name_f]Nina[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalia[/name_f] or [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Catalina[/name_f], Analena, [name_f]Elisa[/name_f], [name_f]Emerald[/name_f], [name_f]Iliana[/name_f], [name_f]Estella[/name_f], [name_f]Liana[/name_f], [name_f]Malia[/name_f], [name_f]Mirabel[/name_f], and [name_f]Valencia[/name_f].
