Saskia

I was looking through the recent blog on Nameberry birth announcements and found [name]Saskia[/name] which I found rather pretty, and spunky too. Thoughts?

I like it, but wouldn’t use it.

I like it, it’s pretty, but wouldn’t use it either. I went to school with a [name]Saskia[/name] who was part Dutch. She was nice enough and her name made a change from all the Emilys and Megans we had. I like that it’s unusual without being really hard to spell.

[name]Saskia[/name] is my co-worker’s name. People NEVER understand her name, she always complains about how she always gets a weird reaction when she introduces herself. Usually after she repeats it again and explains it, people say “That’s such a pretty name” or something along those lines but I can understand how annoying that would be. Other than that though it is such a nice name, I just don’t think that it fairs very well in [name]America[/name].

I love it! I know two sisters called [name]Saskia[/name] and [name]Anouk[/name], and I think it’s awesome.

Not my style because it feels like a harsher version of. [name]Sasha[/name]. It feels nicknamey to me. Plus a family full of Sashas makes it feel less special.

I like it, too, but probably wouldn’t use it. It’s just too different from my style. I’ve tossed it around as a MN, though. [name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Saskia[/name] [name]Grace[/name] or something. I like that it was the name of [name]Rembrandt[/name]'s wife, I believe?

I have adored it for years, and am currently in negotiations with my husband to use it for our soon-to-arrive daughter. (He loves it too but is worried that other people will have too hard a time with it.) Note that the pronunciation question may be tricky: I say it more like SAH-skia, which approximates the Dutch way of saying it, but the primary pronunciation in the UK and Australia is SASS-kia. The only other downside is that it doesn’t have a particularly interesting meaning (“from [name]Saxony[/name]” – and the various alternative meanings I’ve found seem kind of spurious to me).

I think it’s really pretty.

I don’t get the appeal.

[name]Saskia[/name] is an awesome name. I know a woman named [name]Saskia[/name]. we met 1 year ago, and her mom was suppose to name her [name]Danielle[/name] but saw this name on T.V. and named her [name]Saskia[/name] instead, that was in the 80’s.

[name]Saskia[/name] is really pretty. I wouldn’t be brave enough to use it, but I would love to meet a little [name]Saskia[/name]!

I think it’s adorable! It has more spunk than [name]Stella[/name] yet fresher than [name]Sasha[/name]. However, I think it’s one of those names only a girl with a spunky, outgoing personality can pull off. I just can’t see a quiet, shy girl being called [name]Saskia[/name]. However, regardless of personality, I would love to meet a little [name]Saskia[/name]. I’m not sure if I would use it though.

I adore it!
I just recently mentioned this one to my husband as a potential girls name, as my mom is Dutch. I thought he’d freak a little and think it was too weird or unusual. but he had worked with a woman called [name]Saskia[/name] before so it was familiar to him already.

I like it, but wouldn’t use it … I was born in Saskwatchewan, so I think people would start to wonder if I named it after a province :stuck_out_tongue: lol

This one is on my list. I like [name]Kiki[/name] as a nickname, but neither really goes well with my last name. =( I just think this name is so much fun to say and I never get sick of it.

[name]Saskia[/name]'s one of those names that I’d love to see on someone else’s child!

i like [name]Saskia[/name], its cute but it reminds me of the TV show Dance Academy and the woman who is named [name]Saskia[/name] is not very nice at all

I adore [name]Saskia[/name], and knew one growing up who was just lovely. The name is easy to spell, but different, and has the fun nn Sas

It’s my name and I’ve always had a positive response to it, and grown up liking that it’s different without being too “out there”.

It’s made naming my own children more difficult though, as it made me want to name them something equally different but still a proper name.
