Our baby girl is due in Aug, and we’ve settled on [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f]. What are your thoughts? We’ve gotten mixed reactions from folks we’ve told so far, but we just love the name.
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is all male, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I prefer [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] for a boy, it remindes me of [name_m]Tom[/name_m] [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]. So in your shoes, I would be ready for “it’s a boys name” comments.
I do think that [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is a boys name but I always say if you truly love the name, use it! People will get used to it. I do think the combo flows well though.
I think it’s really sweet!
I like gender-benders, so I think [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is great. Pairing it with the very fem [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] is a good choice too. Great choice.
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] seems rather masculine to me. [name_f]My[/name_f] first association is [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] from Lost. [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] is fine.
I have met both males and females named [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] (there was also a female [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] in one of my classes). I don’t have a problem using surnames on girls. I like that you paired it with a feminine middle.
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is a boys name to me. And I don’t really see it as unisex, to me it is way too masculine a name.
I can’t see [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] as a first name for either gender but if you’re set on using it, I’d pick a different spelling for [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] to avoid the double ‘y’.
Visually, [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] looks better than [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f].
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is way too masculine in my opinion. If you like it then go for it, but I personally wouldn’t do it.
I agree with renrose’s suggestion of using [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] to avoid the name being y-heavy. Although I feel that [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] is mainly a boy’s name, I know two people named [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u], and the first one I met was a girl. If you love it, I say go for it. I think [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]/[name_f]Kathryn[/name_f] feminizes it, and the combination as a whole works well [name_f]IMO[/name_f]!
