I’m English and my husband is American, so we divide our time between the two and want names that work in both countries - but we also want to honour my husband’s Scandinavian heritage.
Two boys names we have been looking at are

and [name]Caspar[/name] (shortened to [name]Cap[/name])
What do you think of these?
Being part Norwegian with a bit of Danish thrown in I have to say those names don’t feel very Scandinavian. Sure, they’re used over there and are pretty popular, but I don’t get a Scandi vibe from them. [name]Nicholas[/name] should be spelled [name]Nikolas[/name] (and even then it’s more [name]German[/name]) and [name]Caspar[/name] would be [name]Casper[/name], [name]Kasper[/name] or [name]Jesper[/name].

But I agree with ottilie, the names you have picked out don’t really say Scandinavian to me. Not only that, they’re a little bit bland and boring when you have so many awesome, striking Scandinavian names out there.

Although I think both names are lovely, I too can’t see much of a connection with Scandinavia. ottilie made some brilliant suggestions! I think [name]Anders[/name] ([name]Andy[/name]), [name]Anton[/name], [name]Bendik[/name] ([name]Ben[/name]), [name]Finn[/name], [name]Gustav[/name] ([name]Gus[/name]), [name]Jonas[/name], [name]Magnus[/name], [name]Nikolai[/name] ([name]Niko[/name]) and [name]Tobias[/name] ([name]Toby[/name]) have the potential to work in both countries.
I’d also suggest [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Felix[/name]- English names that can have a Scandinavian vibe and are quite ‘international’. Other English names in their Scandinavian form: [name]Rikard[/name], [name]Edvard[/name], [name]Carl[/name], [name]Fredrik[/name], [name]Jakob[/name], [name]Josef[/name], [name]Tomas[/name]… which can have ‘English’ nicknames.
Alternatively, you could use [name]Nicholas[/name] or [name]Caspar[/name] and put a Scandinavian name in the middle:

I agree with other posters; [name]Nicholas[/name] and [name]Caspar[/name] don’t seem very obviously Scandinavian to me. With [name]Santa[/name] [name]Claus[/name] in the US, [name]Klaus[/name] might be mispronounced as “Claws”. [name]Casper[/name], while cool to me, may still be strongly associated with a friendly ghost to a lot of mainstream people. The ones I think would work in the US are:
[name]Viggo[/name] - especially with the association w/the actor, the popularity of “o” ending names, and a [name]Hanson[/name] brother named his son this.
