While [name]Ruby[/name] is a more popular name, I think [name]Scarlett[/name] risks sounding heavy, affected, trying too hard to be a bombshell. [name]Ruby[/name], in my opinion, has a bit more integrity and versatility. To me, [name]Ruby[/name] is such a pure image. [name]Scarlett[/name] makes me think of Johansen or O’[name]Hara[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are nice names though, so go with your gut.
I like the sound of [name]Ruby[/name] better. [name]Scarlett[/name] is crisp – perhaps a bit too crisp. Also, when I hear [name]Scarlett[/name], I think [name]Scarlet[/name] Letter, scarlet fever, and crimson. Whereas, when I hear [name]Ruby[/name], I think of the gemstone, and of a really sweet, spunky girl.
I can feel your dilemma. I honestly didn’t even vote, because I couldn’t decide between the two myself. They both have equally strong merits and appeal. All I can say is that if you decide on a middle name that you really want to use, you may pick one over the other based on overall flow of the total name. Or even without a middle name, if one sounds much better with the last name than the other.
In the end I think choose the one that sounds best with her LN.
[name]Scarlett[/name] is sassy and spunky- but has many established links- Gone with the Wind, fever, Johansen.
[name]Ruby[/name] is more vintage, little old lady sounding. Perhaps a slightly better choice as there aren’t any strong associations?
[name]Both[/name] are lovely.
[name]Emilia[/name]
I chose [name]Scarlett[/name] b/c I fell in love with it a long time ago watching “Gone with the wind” , but I also like [name]Ruby[/name].
