Scarlett Pearl ?

Thoughts on [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]?

She would go by [name_u]Scout[/name_u]. We love the name [name_u]Scout[/name_u] & want to use it, but are having a hard time coming up with a family middle that flows well (or first name, if we put [name_u]Scout[/name_u] in the middle). [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is another option, but does it sound too short?

Our only reservation is that [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] are both word names.

Other family names that I know off the top of my head:
[name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
Rosaura
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucille[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Gertrude[/name_f]
[name_u]Jo[/name_u]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Lou[/name_u]

Any suggestions? Thank you!

I would avoid pairing [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as they are both color-related and because of the fact that [name_f]Hester[/name_f] names her daughter [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] in The [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f] Letter.

If you you [name_u]Scout[/name_u] use [name_u]Scout[/name_u]! I like [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Iona[/name_f], and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]. I think pairing a multi-syllable middle name is wise with a short first name.

[name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] does not flow well. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is beautiful & most people would not think of the [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] characters.

Possibilities from your list:
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] [name_f]Jacqueline[/name_f]
[name_u]Scout[/name_u] Rosaura
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

I immediately think of someone describing a red pearl…

I quite like [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] from your list.

I like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and I love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] but I strongly dislike them together. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] sounds like the name of a stripper to me.

[name_u]Scout[/name_u] would be cool on its own in my opinion as well even though I know a couple of dogs with that name.

In To Kill a Mockingbird [name_u]Scout[/name_u]'s full name is [name_u]Jean[/name_u] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f] can honor [name_u]Lou[/name_u]. From your list I love [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Iona[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucille[/name_f].

If you are going to call her scout I would name her scout! I also like scout [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]. I have one child that we ended up deciding his first name doenst suit him so we use a nickname isn’t really related to his name like scout is to [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. It’s super annoying because he and I have zero connection to his legal name so when the dr calls his name we do not respond.

Thank you all for confirming my suspicions about [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] & [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] paired together!

I do love the suggestion of [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], just a little nervous about [name_u]Scout[/name_u] in the first name spot! But maybe we’ll warm up to it a bit!

Generally speaking I think it’s nice when a nickname riffs off of a first name, but if you really can’t make it work then just pick a name you like (maybe another name that starts with S?) and use [name_u]Scout[/name_u] as a stand-alone nickname. After all, that’s the joy of nicknames, they don’t need to be a perfect match! [name_u]Scout[/name_u] in particular has some flexibility as it’s also a bit of an attribute name.
