Still looking for middles for a girl Schuyler! My daughter’s middle name is Lovejoy. I was thinking to just use Lovejoy again because it is so unique I could maybe start a little tradition. Only concerns are I’m not 100% sold on the sound of it, and I feel it is such a unique name and my oldest embodies it and it’s just so her. I am worried if at one point I have a moody teen or someone that might not suit the name. I’m not concerned about this middle name having no family connection or significance because I have that in the first name. Thoughts?
I think its fine to use the same middle as a connection between sisters. [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] seems so much less common than [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] though. I would choose a more traditional girls name to go with [name_f]Lovejoy[/name_f]. [name_u]Harper[/name_u], [name_f]Susan[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] (Katie/Kate), [name_u]Josie[/name_u] come to mind.
With the surname-y [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u], I think I’d prefer something more ‘name-y’, or at least less of a surname - like the balance of [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] with [name_u]Miller[/name_u], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] with [name_f]Lovejoy[/name_f] - and, since it’s so unique, as you say, I’d allow your eldest to keep it for herself. Sorry if that’s night helpful!
You could consider something with a similar vibe or meaning or sound:
I like the connection between the sisters so I would use it.
Maybe another a two words middle like [name_u]Lovelace[/name_u], [name_u]Loveday[/name_u], Winterrose or [name_u]Sundance[/name_u]?
I definitely wouldn’t use it on another baby. It’s a completely separate child who deserves a separate name. I do think since [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] is so surnamey I think you’d need something more first namey as a middle name, but maybe you could do another compound name so it’s similar to [name_f]Lovejoy[/name_f]?
I myself would go very classic to balance the name and link to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] - eg [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] Kate/Elisabeth/Catherine/Delphine/Naomi/Tabitha.
The suggestion of [name_f]Jessamine[/name_f] is nice - and links to [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_u]Joseph[/name_u] without being the mash up of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (which is possible and lovely, but might feel too derivative for the child).
If you want to go more out there I’d pick one for her that is different to [name_f]Lovejoy[/name_f] - she’ll get so much out of it, and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] will also continue to feel it’s her own special wish from you. If it were an honour name - eg wondering if should repeat Schulyer as a middle name for a second child - I’d say go for it as tying to their history and someone else etc but [name_f]Lovejoy[/name_f] feels like a one off blessing sort of name.
