I think with [name]Schuyler[/name] you are just asking for mispronunciations. Sure it’s the original, but [name]Skyler[/name] has replaced it by now. I honestly thought it was pronounced Shoo-ler, until someone pointed out it’s [name]Skyler[/name], but even now I still read it as Shoo-ler and have to correct myself… so I would avoid it for that reason.

[name]Schuyler[/name] is harder to say but I like it much more than [name]Skyler[/name]. It seems more substantial to me.

What a cute name…it not really my style but cute nonetheless.
There’s pros and cons of both spellings I think,
[name]Schuyler[/name] is much more appealing to look at and looks more masculine, but people would never spell it this way I don’t believe…
[name]Skyler[/name] is much easier to spell and pronounce, but I’ve have never liked the way it looks and it looks like a girls name

I voted for [name]Schuyler[/name], I think having to spell a name is so common these days it wont matter, I just love the way it looks written down.

Here’s the thing:

Usually I’m all for the original spelling, but in this case, these are totally different names to me.

Everyone always says [name]Schuyler[/name] is pronounced [name]Skyler[/name]. Well it’s a dutch name. The dutch pronounciation is soo different and definitely not [name]Skyler[/name], more like “Shoeyler”, can’t even describe it, there is no such vowel sound in english.

That’s why I think it’s totally fine to choose [name]Skyler[/name]. [name]Schuyler[/name] might be the older name, but since it is pronounced i a wrong way, it doesn’t make sense for me to choose it.

I love [name]Schuyler[/name]! I don’t think it’s that hard to figure out how to say it, once you learn its proper pronunciation, and the one family I know with a [name]Schuyler[/name] has never had problems with it. It looks so much more traditional and handsome as opposed to the trendy [name]Skyler[/name]/[name]Skylar[/name].

[name]Schuyler[/name] is an occasional surname in English, via Dutch; but since the sound for [name]Schuyler[/name] doesn’t exist in English as you pointed out, the pronunciation is Anglicised to [name]SKY[/name]-ler.

I know a [name]Skylar[/name] Shuler oddly enough. But she’s a girl. It’s totally a gender neutral name, and personally I favor it much more for a boy. I prefer the original spelling (because I think it says “I"M A BOY!” more) but am forced to agree that it may get confusing. That being said, I’d still use it anyway because with all the creatively spelled names nobody is going to get by anymore without being asked how they spell their names as a mandatory precaution.

Either way, i love your name choice!! Good luck!

[name]Schuyler[/name] is more sophisticated to me and I love it.

I voted [name]Skyler[/name]. Until I read the posts in this thread, I had no idea that [name]Schuyler[/name] was pronounced like [name]Skyler[/name], rather than Shoo-ler. I would go with [name]Skyler[/name] just to avoid confusion.
