Wdyt of [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u]?
If I were to use [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u], do you think itd be IMPOSSIBLE to spell/say for non name nerds?
[name_u]Skyler[/name_u] seems like the easier bet, yeah? But both me and SO prefer [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u].
[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] [name_m]Marcel[/name_m]. Thoughts?
[name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] is nice. I think people would get used to the spelling-its not completely unfamiliar
I agree with @greyblue. And maybe people will be even more familiar than before because of [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m].
I think it would be a nice choice. If you like the Schuler spelling it feels less complicated.
If you live the US, I think it would probably be okay since this name has a lot of significance in American history.
If you live in the UK or Europe, I think non-name nerds would not be familiar with this name and you would have to explain the pronunciation a lot.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] though I do know the correct pronunciation, I always want to pronounce it something like “SHOE-ler” and have to stop myself. I am in the UK though, maybe this name is better known in the US.
I’m pretty good w names but I can’t even pronounce it. It looks cool though
I wasn’t sure how to pronounce. I love the name [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] and my fav spelling is [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] with an E.
However, I always think you should go with whichever spelling is calling to you most. People will learn.
And yes of course you’ll have to correct people. If you guys are fine with that, go for it !!
My last name was always butchered and pronounced wrong growing up and still, but I wouldn’t change it!
I’m back and apologize as I think I have assumed an incorrect pronunciation of [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] assuming it was pronounced Schuler, which I really do like BTW, lol.
I personally like the [name_u]Schuyler[/name_u] spelling, but I do think it would be difficult for the average person to get right the first time. If they see it before hearing it, I think they would say “Shuler,” and if they hear it before seeing it, I think they would spell it “[name_u]Skyler[/name_u]/[name_u]Skylar[/name_u].” I have a name that you would think would be familiar to most people, but it’s a very rare occasion people get it right the first time. If they do get the name right, they spell it wrong. While it’s definitely not a huge deal, and I would never change my name, it’s something to think about if that’s a concern for you.
I knew a boy in grade school named [name_u]Skylar[/name_u], which I always thought was cool. I associate that spelling with males and [name_u]Skyler[/name_u] with females, personally, but that’s just based on my own experience. Overall, I really like the name, no matter how you spell it!
I’m a huge name nerd and I thought it was pronounced Shoe-ler. I can almost guarantee that no one will be able to pronounce it (in the US, not sure about everywhere else). I always say tho if you love it use it! But you’ll have to tell everyone how to pronounce and spell their name.
I would pronounce as Schuler like the shoe store, so that’s my association but that could be regional! The spelling might be tricky but most kids get used to spelling their name if it is easily misspelled (both my siblings have this problem and both their names were in top 150 when they were born!)
