Science/Noble theme?

I was thinking of doing a subtle science/noble theme? Since I love [name]Edison[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name] for boys, I thought it would be cool to do a subtle theme. What do you think? Can you think of more noble/famous scientists names? I can’t really think of any girls names…

If the noble/science theme doesn’t work out, might just do a common letter theme.

I found a site that has a whole list of famous scientists: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/list-of-famous-scientists-in-history.html

[name]Marie[/name] Curie is the only female though…

And another site that lists a ton of names: http://www.adherents.com/people/100_scientists.html

Thanks catloverd,
I liked [name]Anders[/name], [name]Graham[/name], [name]Fisher[/name], [name]Maxwell[/name], [name]Darwin[/name], [name]Niels[/name], [name]Watson[/name] and [name]Dalton[/name].
Can you think of anymore???
I still can’t find any famous women scientists. Can anyone help me out? [name]Don[/name]'t really like the name, [name]Marie[/name].

You could always just use Nobel Prize winners names.
I really like this idea because you could use classics such as [name]John[/name] and [name]Christoper[/name], more offbeat names such as [name]Mario[/name] or [name]Konstantin[/name], or even surnames of winners: [name]Prescott[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Brenner[/name], [name]Carter[/name].
Here’s a list of winners:

I did some more searching for female scientists and found some links:

http://www.buzzle.com/articles/famous-women-scientists.html

[name]Jane[/name] Goodall is one that popped in my head.

[name]EDIT[/name]:
I went back to one of the links I posted earlier and found a few scattered female names:

[name]Rosalind[/name] [name]Elsie[/name] [name]Franklin[/name] 1920-1958 Jewish
[name]Rosalyn[/name] Sussman Yalow 1921- Jewish
[name]Dorothy[/name] Crowfood Hodgkin 1910-1994
[name]Margaret[/name] [name]Mead[/name] 1901-1978 Episcopalian
[name]Barbara[/name] McClintock 1902-1992
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Brewster[/name] [name]Murray[/name] [name]Hopper[/name] 1906-1992 Jewish
[name]Nettie[/name] [name]Marie[/name] Stevens 1861-1912

[name]Christiane[/name] and [name]Hedy[/name] are female scientists also the following site had quite a few as well I liked [name]Myra[/name] [name]Adele[/name]! www.women-scientists-in-history.com

http://www.sdsc.edu/ScienceWomen/
Here’s a few more women of science. I think this is a great idea!

What about [name]Ada[/name], as in Ada Lovelace - Wikipedia

You could add Tesla to the list

I don’t know… It seems for the girls name, people wouldn’t get the connection that the boys would. Maybe using girls names that mean noble? Wdyt?

I kind of agree that they might not get the connection. Some girls names that mean noble: Aceline ([name]AH[/name]-seh-leen) ([name]Ace[/name] could be a cute nickname!), [name]Ada[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name] (love!), [name]Adele[/name], [name]Adeline[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Alina[/name], [name]Allison[/name], [name]Alissa[/name]/[name]Alyssa[/name], [name]Arwen[/name], [name]Arya[/name], [name]Audrey[/name], [name]Brea[/name] (bree or [name]BREE[/name]-uh, I like the latter), [name]Briana[/name], [name]Brianne[/name], [name]Gentry[/name], [name]Heidi[/name], [name]Lydia[/name].

I actually really like Aceline, [name]Adeline[/name] (I say it add-uh-lyn), [name]Adelaide[/name] (favorite), [name]Arwen[/name], [name]Brea[/name] (I’m liking this more!), and [name]Lydia[/name]

Thanks for the suggestions! [name]Just[/name] discovered [name]Arden[/name]([name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Arden[/name] was a scientist), which I really love! Gertude is also a name of a scientist and would love some nickname ideas for Gertude. I am keeping in mind e noble thing too

I was going to suggest Tesla too…its the surname off a man but super cute for a girl’s name!

I actually really like [name]Arden[/name]! I was totally feeling [name]Arwen[/name] (which has a LOTR connection that some might not like), but I think [name]Arden[/name] is a great name and I don’t find it unisex at all, though it is listed as such. It sounds very feminine to me. [name]Edison[/name] and [name]Arden[/name] aren’t too close in sound either, if you ended up with a full-on scientist theme!

[name]Gertrude[/name] sounds very heavy to me (I don’t like a lot of names with with hard-g’s the exception of [name]Greta[/name]). The only nicknames I can think of are [name]Gertie[/name] and [name]Trudy[/name] which I also dislike. [name]Arden[/name] sounds a lot softer and classier to me!

Nameberry actually did a blog on women scientists

[name]Ada[/name] Yonath - [name]Ada[/name]
Irène Joliot-Curie - [name]Irene[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name] [name]Mary[/name] Crowfoot Hodgkin - [name]Dorothy[/name]
[name]Rosalyn[/name] S. Yalow - [name]Rosalyn[/name]
[name]Fran[/name]çoise [name]Barr[/name]é-Sinoussi - [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Payne[/name]-Gaposchkin - [name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Maud[/name] [name]Leonora[/name] Menten - [name]Maude[/name] or [name]Leonora[/name] ([name]Lenora[/name])
[name]Ellen[/name] Swallow [name]Richards[/name] - [name]Ellen[/name]
[name]Ida[/name] Noddack - [name]Ida[/name]
[name]Edith[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] [name]Saunders[/name] - [name]Edith[/name]
[name]Dian[/name] Fossey - [name]Dian[/name] ([name]Diane[/name])
[name]Emmy[/name] Noether - [name]Emmy[/name]
[name]Laura[/name] Bassi - [name]Laura[/name]

Also, people generally don’t know some of the more obscure people of science. However, when you introduce your children and they ask why your daughter’s name isn’t as obviously scientific as your sons… it will be an opening to educate them about a female scientist’s contributions to our world. That’s awesome.

Thank you everyone so much! [name]Arden[/name] and Tesla made our list!
niteowl13- thank you for reposting that blog, didnt know they did one on female scientists!
