Scotch for a little girl?

Hello All,

We are thinking of naming our little girl Scotch. We are neither Scottish, nor drinkers of this particular libation, but we love it anyway. We think it sounds both strong and spunky but worry that it may be much too masculine for a little girl and perhaps could leave her feeling uncomfortable during introductions. Any thoughts?

So very sorry, I really am a lover of unusual names, but I don’t think Scotch is suited to be a name at all. Maybe as a cute nickname? It reminds me of hopscotch, which I could see being a pet name or something.

I’m a big lover of unique names however I don’t think Scotch would be appropriate (the alcohol) nor do I find it pretty, sorry!! Perhaps [name_u]Scout[/name_u]? I still find it a tad masculine but I think it would be a bit better than Scotch

SCOTCH?

No. Please, no.

I don’t think Scotch is the right name for anybody, but I applaud the courage!
What about [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]? Her nickname could be Scar, which is very spunky!

Thank you all for being so candid and straightforward, we need that. Back to the drawing board…
Thanks again, very much.

Awww man. No. I just don’t see it working. I find it harsh and reminds me of alcohol. :-/

Is this a joke?

No, non, nej, geen, NO.

Please, just don’t do it.

Have you considered [name_u]Scout[/name_u]?

I always thought it was cute and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] [name_u]Finch[/name_u] is a pretty great association.

All I can think of is “I love scotch, scotchy scotch scotch…”

Surely you must be kidding. I’m pretty sure naming a child “Scotch” would be considered child abuse.

Okay, unpopular opinion here - but I think it’s really sweet . . . as a nickname. Perhaps you could use it as a family nickname for [name_f]Scotia[/name_f]? (prn skoh-sha). It’s an established name, plus, it won’t make people think of alcohol when they hear what you named your daughter.

I met a little girl named [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], and I thought that was really spunky and pretty! You could use Scotch as a family nn for that…maybe?

You’re such a dear [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. Thank you for your thoughtful response. We weren’t expecting such a visceral reaction in here…eek! And I love the suggestion for our daughter’s first name, so feminine and lovely. Thanks again

[name_f]Scotland[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], absolutely charming! Thank you

I don’t think it’s appropriate to name a child after an alcoholic beverage.

Makes me think of the South [name_m]Park[/name_m] character Butters aka [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] Butters Stotch. Nope Scotch belongs as a libation or pudding flavor not as a first name [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

Aw, you’re welcome, Donnyonny. Congratulations, and all the best finding the right name for your baby

I’m sorry, I usually love unusual names but this one I just can’t like. It sounds too masculine for a girl and even on a boy I still don’t like it. All I can think about is the drink and the movie Anchorman lol. I don’t think it’s child abuse at all like another commenter said though I really can’t see it on a sweet baby girl. However, I adore the name [name_u]Scout[/name_u] for a girl. It’s similar and still spunky and fun but with a good connotation and some strong and reputable literary connections from To Kill A Mockingbird. I think it is a much better option that Scotch. My vote is for Scout!!
