I like [name]Seamus[/name]! It’s very cute. When I see it, I see sea and mouse (mus is mouse in norwegian). When I moved to [name]England[/name] there was a boy in my class by this name, and when I think of him I always think seamouse - adorable!
My co-worker just named his son [name]Seamus[/name]. Personally, I thought it was really cool and bold and it shows that he and his wife are proud of their Irish roots. I cant tell you how many people could not say this poor kids name though! I wouldnt change the spelling though. They call the little boy [name]Shea[/name].
[name]Seamus[/name] ([name]SHAY[/name]-mus) – Personally, I don’t like it (I think there are better Irish names) but I think it’s a perfectly fine and usable name.
[name]Nigel[/name] – I like it, but I just think of The [name]Wild[/name] Thornberries, and a nerdy type guy
[name]Niall[/name] (nee-ul) – According to babynamesofireland.com this name is pronounce nye + al (like [name]Nile[/name]) and the way to get your pronunciation is [name]Neil[/name]. In any case, I don’t like either. I find [name]Neil[/name] old and [name]Niall[/name] to [name]One[/name] Direction.
[name]Dean[/name] – This one makes me think of a boy in the 70s, but I think it has a strong feeling too. I like it.
[name]Ewan[/name] – It’s okay, but nms. I find the sound awkward.
[name]Dorian[/name] – my favorite on here! Very handsome, connected to literature, and intelligent sounding all at once.
[name]Callan[/name] – Meh. I think it has a nice sound, but it’s nms.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Seamus[/name], [name]Niall[/name], [name]Ewan[/name], and [name]Dean[/name]! If we have a second son there is a very strong chance he’ll be named [name]Ewan[/name].
I have only seen [name]Niall[/name] pronounced like the river [name]Nile[/name], though. Nee-ul is usually spelled [name]Neil[/name]. [name]Nigel[/name] is just okay for me (I picture a stuffy English butler), and I’m not fond of [name]Callan[/name] or [name]Dorian[/name].
Oh, you added names.
I like [name]Nigel[/name], [name]Callan[/name], [name]Dean[/name] and [name]Ewan[/name].
I 'm so tired of [name]Niall[/name]. It’s not a bad name, I just see it everywhere; [name]Niall[/name] and [name]Harry[/name] (what are the other memebers of [name]One[/name] Direction called? I can’t remember!). And [name]Dorian[/name] is very [name]Dorian[/name] [name]Gray[/name].
@[name]Ottilie[/name]… They havent been added just yet… but I am considereing adding some new ones to my boys and girls lists! My girls “ideas” are here Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums
[name]Seamus[/name] is the best imo. Such bite, yet such a whispery sound - I don’t know how that works, but this name is a thing of beauty.
[name]Josef[/name] [name]Patrick[/name] [name]James[/name] is so manly, and [name]Seamus[/name] meets that name in strength. I also have a soft-spot for [name]Ewan[/name], and it’s quite nice with [name]Josef[/name]. [name]Callan[/name] is good too, and [name]Dean[/name]. But [name]Dean[/name] isn’t as distinctly Celtic, so I might use it as a middle.
I used to love [name]Seamus[/name], but now I associate it with [name]Mitt[/name] [name]Romney[/name]'s unfortunate dog. I’m hoping that association fades in time, because it’s a great name. I also like [name]Niall[/name], but only if it’s pronounced [name]Nye[/name]-all. The rest of your list are just not my bag.
@[name]Ottilie[/name] – I’m wondering if you’ve seen any kiddos named [name]Niall[/name] or if you’ve just seen it from the band and on the forums here. We’re about 8 weeks from naming our fourth [name]Niall[/name] and I’m in the not-quite-cold-feet, but just double-checking phase of naming.
With the popularity of [name]Sean[/name], I wouldn’t think it would be that far of a leap for people to be able to pronounce [name]Seamus[/name]. Then again, in this area, I think there are more Shawns than Seans.
I like [name]Seamus[/name]! I love the sound of it, the fact that where I live it’s not popular at all, and the option of having the adorable nn [name]Shea[/name]!
The rest aren’t really my style at all. I don’t mind [name]Dean[/name], but the rest I just can’t like.
