We are expecting our second child, another girl, any day now and we still don’t have a name selected.
I’d really appreciate your help in creating first and middle combos for our new baby girl, and a new middle for our daughter, [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]. I’ve never been happy with [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]'s middle name, so we are going to change it. We’d like the girls to have middle names that give them a connection as sisters.
Potential middle combos we have considered are:
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
Current favorites for the new baby’s first name:
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
Name Requirements: Positive Meaning: I won’t use a name that has a meaning that could be construed as negative. Examples: [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (she who intoxicates), [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (a birth defect where the child is missing limbs), [name_f]Leah[/name_f] (weary), [name_f]Emily[/name_f] (rival), [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] (to flirt) Timeless and Classic: I like timeless, classic, strong baby names that still feel sleek and modern. A perfect example is [name_f]Claire[/name_f], which unfortunately doesn’t work with our last name. [name_f]Non[/name_f]-Spanish/Latin Sounding: We have had many people think that our daughter is Spanish or Latina because of her name ([name_f]Isadora[/name_f]). I don’t mind that people ask us that, but we don’t have any Spanish/Latin heritage, so I’d like to avoid another Spanish sounding name. One Middle for Each Daughter: I don’t want multiple middles
About us:
We live in a cosmopolitan [name_u]North[/name_u] American city in a hip, upper-middle class neighborhood. My husband and I are both creative professionals. Our last name is one syllable.
Potential Combos:
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] (too many “I’s”?)
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
Your help in suggesting some new first/middle combos is greatly appreciated!
I would suggest avoiding a first name that is too much like [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]. [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] are too similar in my opinion.
My favorite combos are:
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (I also like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f])
Congratulations and good luck deciding!
I second the suggestion of [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is great with [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]IMO[/name_f]!
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] – I actually am really enjoying this! The “I” is pronounced differently, keeping away from alliteration.
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] – This has more repeating sounds to it. One name starts with the same sound the other ends with and then the hard “r” makes it a bit gravelly.
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] – I think this is also a beautiful combo and would be my second choice over [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
While your shorter names are also lovely, a name with a bit more to it works better with [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] as she’s a four syllable-r. [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Also, I feel like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] with a floral middle name is too much bordering on a bouquet or garden party. [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] or [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] doesn’t have the best flow with it though, nor with [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] for that matter. I see you’re trying to create a theme between the two middles, though you could create a theme with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (floral first) and [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]'s new middle (floral middle), so there would still be a connection between the two I think [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is a wonderful combo!
Another thought is to play off of [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]'s name with DD2’s middle name. Since [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] references [name_f]Isis[/name_f], the Egyptian goddess of childbirth and fertility, you could possibly use [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], [name_f]Demetra[/name_f] / [name_f]Demetria[/name_f] / [name_f]Demelza[/name_f] (after [name_u]Demeter[/name_u]), [name_f]Cybele[/name_f], [name_f]Damara[/name_f], [name_f]Brigid[/name_f], Rosmerta, [name_f]Juno[/name_f], [name_f]Lucina[/name_f] as middle names for [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (I quite like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Demelza[/name_f] or [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Demetria[/name_f]) and then have [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], so their names would play off each other as combos. [name_m]Just[/name_m] an idea. Not sure if all those goddesses are entirely positive so you’d have to look into that.
My three favourites for [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]:
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
If you want somewhat matching middles I’d suggest [name_f]Verity[/name_f] & [name_f]Amity[/name_f] - both virtues (truth and kindness) with similar sounds.
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] is a stand-out-yet-fit-in name with an exotic, romantic feel and rich history.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] all have rich histories of their own {[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f], only as a plant/flower name},
but – while [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] are close – none are equivalent enough for a sister to [name_f]Isadora[/name_f].
My favorite of your combos is [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f]. I love that they have an flower/nature connection, and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] is a new favorite of mine. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is one of my absolute favorite names too. I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. Good luck by the way!
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] definitely and either [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Flora[/name_f] or [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f].
A previous suggestion of [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f] is very intriguing. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you use a nn for [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]? [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] & [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f] could be [name_u]Isa[/name_u] & [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].
I like pps’ suggestions of linking the middle names by theme, whether it’s flowers, gems, nature, water, etc.
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamond[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] (I love the sibling combo of [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f])
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Annelise[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Linnea[/name_f] (Floral middle names)
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f]/[name_f]Iris[/name_f] or [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
Thanks so much to all of you!
There are some great combos mentioned in the replies, and also some great new names we hadn’t considered.
Still deciding…
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] and [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] both mean happy/happiness or switch it and make it [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] so they don’t share a same first initial but they are flipped.
