We’ve narrowed our choices to two family names (not significant, but within the family tree).
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] or [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]. Spelled like that. Here’s what I’m wondering:
I like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] but I cannot stand the shortened name [name_f]CeCe[/name_f] or CiCi. I’m fine with other variations like [name_f]Celia[/name_f] or Cil, etc but I know at a certain age I can’t control that. Is it impossible to have people just call her [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] in full?
I like [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] a lot, and I’m fine with a nick name of [name_u]Lou[/name_u] or [name_f]Loulou[/name_f]. However, my first daughter’s middle name is [name_f]Louise[/name_f].
Is that too close or is that kind of cool to make it a common thread? I never really use her middle name unless I’m writing out paperwork.
My personal favorite is [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] but I would not name my daughter [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] when her sister’s middle name is [name_f]Louise[/name_f].
I wouldn’t say that [name_f]CeCe[/name_f]/CiCi would be an automatic nickname for [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]. I could be wrong, but I get the impression that it isn’t the type of name that automatically gets shortened, and [name_f]Cece[/name_f] isn’t really that intuitive a nickname if you pronounce [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] as “suh-SEE-lee-ah” or “suh-[name_m]SEEL[/name_m]-ya”. [name_m]Just[/name_m] my two cents - it could well be wrong/different in some areas.
As for [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] - I like it a lot. Personally, I would definitely prefer not to use [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] if [name_f]Louise[/name_f] was a MN of another child, but I don’t see why not if that’s the name you really love.

[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] - You sort of answered this yourself, you almost never actually use your child’s second name in public so I don’t see a problem with [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] as a first name.
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] - As long as you introduce your child as [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] I would not call her [name_f]Cece[/name_f] etc. Looking at my own environment the only pple wanting to nn our child was our close family but it was easy to talk to them about it so they don’t do it anymore. I don’t think people automatically nn everyone, especially uninvited.
Between the two names it’s a tough choice, maybe see how you like them next to your daughter’s first name? I do love
the idea of [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Cecile[/name_f] though…
Personally I would go with [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f], and perhaps introduce her as [name_f]Celia[/name_f] so that she’s more likely to be called that. However, I adore [name_f]Louisa[/name_f]/[name_u]Lou[/name_u]/[name_f]Lulu[/name_f], so make of that what you will.
I would go with [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Celie[/name_f]/[name_f]Celia[/name_f]. I agree with pp that it helps to introduce her by her nn right away, and it’s definitely okay to tell people that you don’t like CiCi/[name_f]CeCe[/name_f] as a nn while she’s still a baby; she might end up liking the nn herself when she’s older, though
I adore the name [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]! I don’t think people would call her [name_f]Cece[/name_f] if you call her [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] (or [name_f]Celia[/name_f]/Cil) in full. I also prefer the name in full and am not a huge fan of [name_f]Cece[/name_f].
I don’t think it would be odd to name her [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] because of your other daughter’s middle name. I think it’s cute being connected like that! Personally, [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] sounds a little too dated for my taste. Compared to [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] which has a vintage vibe, [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] seems old. It’s still a pretty name! I just prefer [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f].
I honestly love both names so much but I really prefer [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] (my signature ahaha). I know two Cecilias and one of them always goes by [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] in full (as in everyone always calls her that). The second [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] goes by [name_f]Cece[/name_f] but honestly, I think if you consistently call her [name_f]Celia[/name_f] it’ll be fine.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] is also such a timeless name and nn [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] or [name_u]Lou[/name_u] is so cute! I don’t think the MN issue is a problem but its really up to you!
My name can easily be shortened to [name_f]Cassie[/name_f]. My mother hated [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] and was very adamant that no one call me that. It’s never been a problem. I think if you’re willing to immediately correct people and mention to all her teachers that you do not want [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] shortened it shouldn’t be a problem.
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] is my favorite of your two choice by far! Good luck!
I like [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] and I like [name_f]Celie[/name_f] as a nickname.
I wouldn’t use [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] if [name_f]Louise[/name_f] if in your daughter’s name. Kids like to be distinct.
