Hello! Our little girl is due in the next month, and I’m still not completely confident in our name choice, [name]Eva[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Gray[/name]. We would use the nickname “[name]Evie[/name]” while she is young. My husband and DS1 pretty much have their hearts set on it, but I’m not quite there yet. I have gotten some negative feedback from friends and family and that hasn’t helped at all. While I see it as a classic circa the early 1900s, people seem to be having a hard time overlooking the Disney’s [name]Wall[/name]-E movie reference.
[name]Just[/name] to give you an idea, our other front runners were:
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Claire[/name] (DH vetoed)
[name]Ava[/name] [name]Jane[/name] (too popular)
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Noelle[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name] [name]Anne[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Jane[/name] and [name]Anne[/name] are family names.
So, should we go back to the drawing boards on this one? What do you think of when you hear the name [name]Eva[/name] [name]Jane[/name]? Any other thoughts? Thanks SO much!
I might be biased because I’m a HUGE fan of [name]Evie[/name], but I think you should stick to your guns. The [name]Wall[/name]-E reference will come and go. Frankly, I’m surprised people are still talking about it. [name]Evie[/name] definitely isn’t the same as naming your daughter [name]Cinderella[/name] or [name]Snow[/name] White. If I were you, I seriously wouldn’t worry about it, regardless of what people are telling you. [name]Wall[/name]-E is no Casablanca. It and its characters will soon be forgotten just like many other movies before it!
PS - [name]Eva[/name] [name]Jane[/name] [name]Gray[/name] is precious!
PPS - [name]Evie[/name] is in the top 5 in the UK right now… So something’s definitely good about that name!
[name]Don[/name]'t worry about the [name]Wall[/name]-E thing. Some people just like to try to be clever and end up being rude instead. I can’t tell if some of them really dislike any name that isn’t top 10, or they just like to be negative for the fun of it. Maybe it’s a control thing? I dunno, but that’s why I hate talking about names with some people. The same types of people will also tell you the car you just bought has horrible crash test ratings, and that the house you’re looking at would never work for you.
My parents made fun of my daughter [name]Cora[/name]'s name and called her “[name]Cora[/name] the [name]Explorer[/name]” for the first few weeks, till I put my foot down.
Ignore them, as much as possible.
And when kids bring up a reference, that usually means they LIKE it. (my 5yo son is pushing for us to name the next baby [name]Beatrix[/name], so he can call her omnitrix, after the thing in [name]Ben[/name]-10.)
