Here’a question… is three names too long, or too out there??
My SO and I were talking about some of the names that we love and have set aside… one of which is [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. This was the first name that we agreed on as a couple, and we both love it so much. However, my SO raised an interesting observation the other day - that being, that when we talk about our names, I always say [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] (never just [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]), where as our other boys’ names I say alone ([name_u]Bentley[/name_u], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], etc), without attaching the chosen MNs. He put forward the idea that perhaps we should use [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] as a double name (but no tacky hyphen! we both hate hyphenated names!), and give him another MN.
What do you think?? Would three names work?? Or is it okay as is??
If we did include another middle, what would you suggest?? (nothing on our rather short boys list would work)
Also, if we were to give one child three names, do they all need to have three names???
Thanks for your always interesting comments and ideas! xoxo
I think three names are perfectly acceptable. Most of my family have two middle names, it’s become a sort of tradition. Each of us love having two middle names, both boys and girls. One of the middle names tends to be an honour name, and the other just one that is liked or matches well, however there are no rules or obligations. In fact the newest little one born was given two middle names and everyone loves his name. [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] stands alone nicely, but you could easily add another without it being too overpowering. [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Felix[/name_m] sounds nice to me, as well as [name_m]Ross[/name_m], [name_m]Joe[/name_m], [name_u]Dale[/name_u] and some other shorter names to compliment the other names.
Whatever it ends up as I’m sure it will be lovely!
I think three names are perfectly acceptable (obviously) and it is up to you if you want them to all have 3 names. I wanted mine to have the same amount of names and at one point the same amount of syllables. I went with names as my partner has a child with 3 names.
I love 3 names, though [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] could stand alone if you wanted it to. If you added another, I would go with a shorter name.
I think it’s fine to have three names/a double first… But personally I would just keep [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] as fn/mn, and call him by both if you like. My guess would be that it will be shortened at some point, if not by you then by everyone else.
I love three names, [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_m]Micheal[/name_m] is usable as it is but if you think a second MN I will suggest [name_u]Orion[/name_u] from your signature.
Thanks for the thoughts, lovelies! I think, personally, I have nothing against three names, but in this case, I am not rushing to change it. I like it as it, but maybe when we get around (possibly) to using it, we might add to it. We’ll see…
