Our baby girl is due in [name]October[/name]. We are pretty much set on the name [name]Arabella[/name], but when I mentioned it to a few family members & friends, we received mixed reactions.
Some think it’s beautiful, and exotic. Some think it’s stuck-up and bratty sounding. Others thought it’s too old fashioned and frilly. And then there’s my older brother who said it made him think of pasta and dancing!! Ugh…
What style or feeling do you get from the name [name]Arabella[/name]?
We are in love with this name but I think I need that extra little nudge of confidence. Is it ridiculous of us to name her [name]Arabella[/name]?
This is my daughter’s name (born [name]October[/name] 2009 funny enough!) and I [name]LOVE[/name] IT! I mean, if they’re worried about it being too exotic, you have the nickname [name]Bella[/name] which is pretty mainstream now.
My [name]Arabella[/name] isn’t really bratty. She’s needy, but what baby isn’t at 7 months! Otherwise, she has a really sweet personality! Its also probably more of how you raise the child that determines whether they’ll be bratty or not! [name]Don[/name]'t let anyone deter you from using [name]Arabella[/name], it’s an awesome name! Besides, if some family members like it, the others will come around!
Thank you for sharing! That’s funny that she’s another [name]October[/name] [name]Arabella[/name]!
[name]How[/name] did/do most people react to her name? [name]Do[/name] you get compliments, do people just think it’s normal? Or is it completely the opposite where people have a hard time grasping it because they aren’t used to it?
It is comforting to know that I’m not only one who loves the name [name]Arabella[/name]!
I think [name]Arabella[/name] is absolutely beautiful! I wouldn’t be put off by people’s mixed opinions of I was you. Everyone has their own idea of what the perfect baby name is and I don’t think you could ever pick a name that EVERYONE would like! But the good thing is you don’t need to You just need to pick one you and your hubby agree on, and if you two love [name]Arabella[/name] then go for it!
For what it’s worth, I would imagine a beautiful, sophisticated and feminine woman to have the name [name]Arabella[/name]. On a child I think it’s adorable and is the kind of name that any little girl would love to have, it’s bound to make her feel a little like a princess without being too flouncy or over the top! You also have the cute nn’s [name]Bella[/name], [name]Belle[/name] or [name]Ari[/name].
You should try suggesting another name to your family and friends and you will probably still get complete mixed opinions on it…it’s not the name, it’s just everyone has different tastes.
It is definitely not ridiculous to name your daughter [name]Arabella[/name].
[name]Arabella[/name] is VERY frilly, infact it is one of the girliest names out there. That is not a bad thing though, especially if that is your style. Afterall, there were 22,000 Isabellas born last year so [name]Arabella[/name] wouldnt be strange to hear.
If you are your husband love the name then that is all that matters. You are not giving your daughter a bad name, [name]Arabella[/name] is beautiful and has lots of nn options ([name]Bella[/name], [name]Bell[/name], [name]Arie[/name], [name]Ara[/name]). Everyone has a different opinion on names and family and friends will always try to change your mind if it not a name they like. This is your baby though and you need to be happy with the name.
I have gotten nothing but compliments, I think because its close to [name]Isabella[/name]. Its unique without bieng too out there. My husband was hard to please too when it came to picking a name and he loves it! I think overall you will get a great reaction to the name :)!
