Second Thoughts on Protagonist Name

So, at the moment, I’m editing this titan-sized novel (historical fiction just to keep that in mind), and it’s starting to dawn on me that I kind of don’t like my MC’s name - [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. And editing would be a great time to - if I need to - change the name.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think I’m overreacting and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is fine?
Or should I change it to [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]?
The thing is, I’m fine with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. It’s [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] that I’m unsure about.
If I do change the name, I would want it to be something that would fit in a historical fiction novel in approximately the Victorian era. (Taken names include Thea, Eleanor, Andrina, Sonia, and Aurora.)

My grandmother and I think you should ditch the name [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and leave it at [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I mean, I did like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] in the A-Z Mysteries, but yeah. Ditch the name [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and leave it at [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].

Unless it’s a double name, I agree with star_girl, I think you could safely drop [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. Middle names aren’t always important, and maybe I’m just biased, but I like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] a lot better than [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]; I’m not a fan of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. Middle names very popular for the upper classes in the Victorian era. Poor people didn’t bother; instead you’d simply be nicknamed like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] became [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f]…ect…

If she’s an upper class character, I would definetly fancy her name up a bit. Totally drop [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] then.

Yeah, I’d move [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] to the middle. I like [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f] as a potential replacement perhaps, but I like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] a little more.

Thanks for all of your help! I’ve decided that I am going to drop [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and go with [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] (and, since it’s a sort of steampunk-y historical fiction, her nn is [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]).

I’d like to read your book. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] it gets published, and if you need any more help with character names, let me know.
