Second thoughts..

So we were getting close to chossing a name for our first child if it’s a girl, and were leaning towards [name]Iris[/name].
But I’m starting to have second thoughts about this name and the other two we had narrowed it down to, Airley and [name]Clover[/name].
Although I love all of these names, especially [name]Iris[/name], they just don’t fell like “the one”.
I’ve gone back to our original [name]LONG[/name] list and am thinking about reconsidering a lot of them. The baby is due in February and if it is a boy we will name him [name]Felix[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name].
If anyone has some spare time and does’t mind going through the long list I’d love some opinions and even some suggestions! If it helps, the baby is most likely to have dark (maybe curly) hair and dark eyes.
Also, some names we love but CAN’T use are [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Gemma[/name], [name]Sydney[/name], [name]Holly[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Agatha[/name] and [name]Grace[/name] :frowning:

So heres the list:
[name]Iris[/name]
Airley
[name]Clover[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name]
[name]Lilla[/name]/ [name]Lillia[/name]
[name]Allegra[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Hania[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Appoline[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name]
[name]Allanah[/name]
[name]Elsie[/name]/[name]Elsa[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]
[name]Isis[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Aisha[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Kiera[/name]

Sorry it’s so long!!!
Thankyou, [name]Yvette[/name]

I love [name]Scarlet[/name] & [name]Dorothy[/name]. The idea of a little girl named [name]Dotty[/name] is Darling!! I would call her [name]Dot[/name]. [name]Both[/name] of these names are so timeless, but not common right now. Great list. You have good taste. Seeing as we have similar taste, I wanted to suggest [name]Darla[/name]; I wish I could get my husband on board with [name]Darla[/name], but he just says “no”

p.s. I think it is ok not to know exactly. With girls more than boys, I think you have to meet them to make a decision. Narrowing it down to 5 would be ideal by her birthday. [name]Don[/name]'t put too much pressure on yourself. Meet her and then decide.

[name]Yvette[/name],

I love [name]Iris[/name]. It’s spunky and fun but it is distinctly vintage. Off your long list, my favorites are [name]Marguerite[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Hazel[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Lark[/name] (MN), [name]Genevieve[/name], and [name]Keira[/name]. However, in keeping with your style, which I’m getting from [name]Felix[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name], I think [name]Marguerite[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], and [name]Genevieve[/name] are your best options, alongside [name]Iris[/name]. I think you like vintage names with a bit of an exotic flair, something unique yet not entirely unfamiliar, yes? Based on your description, I could best see your daughter as a [name]Marguerite[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], or [name]Genevieve[/name], though these names can obviously fit any physical description - I’m just saying my personal “image.”

As for other suggestions that might work for you, I was thinking [name]Adelina[/name], [name]Camille[/name], [name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Katya[/name], [name]Lilith[/name], [name]Ophelia[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Sylvie[/name], [name]Tallulah[/name], and [name]Viola[/name]. Good luck!

[name]Lemon[/name]

PS Would you use [name]Felix[/name] [name]Sebastian[/name] for a future boy should this baby turn out to be a girl? If so, I really think [name]Scarlett[/name] is lovely with [name]Felix[/name]. But, [name]Ramona[/name] would be stunning, as would [name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Gwendolen[/name], or [name]Tallulah[/name], I think. Best of luck!

Thankyou for the reassurance, I’m feeling pretty overwhlemed at the moment! I think you are right about narrowing it down to about 5, hopefully it will all come together before the due date gets too close!
I agree about [name]Dot[/name]/[name]Dotty[/name]- the thing that holds me back it that when I mentioned this idea to my best friend she laughed and said that [name]Dot[/name] was a terrible name :frowning:
[name]Darla[/name] is gorgeous but I’m not sue I’m brave enojugh to use it!

Thanks [name]Lemon[/name]
From your list I especially like [name]Camille[/name], [name]Katya[/name] and [name]Tallulah[/name]… I’ll run them by my husband
If it is a girl I would like to use [name]Felix[/name] on a future son, unless of course our tastes change (I hope not!)

My only concern with [name]Iris[/name] is it’s lack of nickname possibilities. I’m most likely to call my kids by their full names, but think it’s always great to have the option of a nickname.

Hm. That is an issue with [name]Iris[/name], and if you think that might bother you, it might not be right for you. For instance, with [name]Tallulah[/name], you’ve got so many options - [name]Tally[/name], [name]Ally[/name], [name]Lulu[/name], [name]Lula[/name], and my personal favorite, [name]Tula[/name]. And, I think [name]Felix[/name] and [name]Tallulah[/name] are a really fun sibling set! Something like [name]Tallulah[/name] [name]Camille[/name] or [name]Tallulah[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name] would be pretty, but you could even go vintage with [name]Tallulah[/name] [name]Hazel[/name] or [name]Tallulah[/name] [name]Gwyneth[/name], should your husband actually like [name]Tallulah[/name].

[name]Lemon[/name]

Well he didn’t say no to [name]Tallulah[/name]… but he isn’t sure. He said he can’t imagine it on a 30 year old woman, which I tend to agree with. I think if I’d met a [name]Tallulah[/name] i would find it easier to imagine on a real person. I really love all the possible nicknames for it and i think it’s such a sweet name!! Definatly adding it to the list!

Random thought… do you think it’s too much of a stretch to nickname [name]Iris[/name] [name]Izzy[/name]? I’ve always loved the nickname [name]Izzy[/name] and it would be a great solution to the no nickname issue!

[name]Yvette[/name],

You know what? Why not? I’m of the opinion that you can nickname your child anything you want to. Now, maybe that’s because my name is [name]Lauren[/name] but my parents have always called me [name]Birdie[/name], or maybe it’s because I believe in freedom of expression - regardless, I think you can. And, if it really bugs you, use a middle name that allows you to get to a desired nickname. Not sure what that would be for [name]Izzy[/name], beyond any variant of [name]Isabelle[/name] - [name]Iris[/name] [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Iris[/name] [name]Isabel[/name], [name]Iris[/name] [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Iris[/name] [name]Isabeau[/name] - but all of them have the issue of irIS [name]ISabelle[/name]. Hm.

I can understand your fears about [name]Tallulah[/name] aging well. Thus, I have come with another suggestion - [name]Jessamine[/name]. JessaMIN. JessaMEEN. Pronounce it as you will. It does age well, it is unique, and it’s got plenty of fun nicknames - [name]Jess[/name], [name]Jessie[/name], [name]Jessa[/name], [name]Amie[/name], [name]Mini[/name], [name]Minnie[/name], [name]Mina[/name]? I’d even go so far as to say [name]Jessamine[/name] [name]Iris[/name] is gorgeous, despite the fact that both are “nature” names. Understated, yes? [name]Just[/name] a thought…

[name]Lemon[/name]

I’ve commented in the past on your other post so I’ll just give a brief opinion on each name (take it for what it is, MY opinion and doesn’t mean you should or shouldn’t use a name!!) and a couple of ideas of names that have a similar feel or sound that you may not have considered:

[name]Iris[/name] - adore, I’ve just commented on your other post about how much I love this one! - [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Nina[/name]
Airley - as I said on your other post, Airley isn’t my style. I can come round more to Airla but I’m still unsure. - [name]Orla[/name], [name]Aurelie[/name] (name of a ballerina according to [name]Pam[/name] and [name]Linda[/name]'s blog :)) or [name]Zaira[/name]
[name]Clover[/name] - I think it’s cute but it’s very out there so you need to be brave to use it! It may be easier to pull off - [name]Poppy[/name], [name]Willow[/name] or [name]Lake[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name] - I’m not sure about this one. I don’t know about in the US but in the UK it’s kind of terminally old lady! [name]How[/name] about [name]Theodora[/name], [name]Thea[/name] or [name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Marguerite[/name] - I like this but I don’t know if it sounds a little ott if you’re not French? [name]How[/name] about [name]Margot[/name], [name]Pearl[/name] or [name]Martha[/name]
[name]Cleo[/name] - I love [name]Cleo[/name]! So cute  - [name]Cleona[/name], [name]Clara[/name] or [name]Leola[/name]
[name]Lilla[/name]/ [name]Lillia[/name] - I like [name]Lilla[/name] but prefer [name]Lillia[/name] - [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Lelia[/name] (pronounced [name]Lee[/name]-lee-uh, avoids the common [name]Lily[/name] nn)
[name]Allegra[/name] - I adore [name]Allegra[/name] as I mentioned before and don’t care about the allergy medicine cos I’ve never heard of it! - [name]Alessia[/name], [name]Althea[/name] or [name]Aliza[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name] - [name]Susannah[/name] is one of my favourite names, I really love this one! If you’re not sure though, how about - [name]Sanaa[/name] (means art :)), [name]Rosanna[/name] or [name]Isannah[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] - [name]Miriam[/name] is not my style, it sounds dated and musty to me sorry. - [name]Mirabelle[/name], [name]Mireya[/name] or [name]Ariane[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] - I love [name]Helena[/name], there are pronounciation issues but I like all pronounciations! - [name]Lena[/name], [name]Eleni[/name] or [name]Marlena[/name]
[name]Clementine[/name] - [name]Clementine[/name] is very cute  - [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Cecilia[/name] or [name]Olive[/name]
[name]Hania[/name] - this is a nice choice, very similar to Hannnah put just different enough to be interesting - [name]Annia[/name], Tathana or [name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Alice[/name] - I love [name]Alice[/name]! It is very popular though - [name]Alicia[/name], [name]Sophie[/name] or [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name] - [name]Hazel[/name] is one of my favourites off your list. Cool, vintage and a nature name  - [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Geneva[/name] or [name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name] - [name]Scarlett[/name] is nice but super popular and celebrity related - [name]Carys[/name], [name]Leta[/name] or [name]Juliette[/name]
[name]Appoline[/name] - It’s a bit too out there for me. I prefer “prettier” sounding names. [name]How[/name] about - [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Octavia[/name] or [name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Lilac[/name] - I love [name]Lilac[/name]! I really do love this name  So cute! - Also like, [name]Delilah[/name], [name]Indigo[/name] or [name]Tulip[/name]
[name]Allanah[/name] - this seems a bit of a trendy spelling. I prefer [name]Alana[/name] or [name]Alanna[/name] or even just [name]Lana[/name].
[name]Elsie[/name]/[name]Elsa[/name] - I prefer [name]Elsa[/name] nn [name]Elsie[/name] but think either is adorable! - I also like [name]Elspeth[/name], [name]Eloisa[/name] or [name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Lark[/name] - This is such a lovely underused name (I almost suggested it as an alternative to [name]Clover[/name] until I saw it was on your list!) Also like - [name]Wren[/name], [name]May[/name] or [name]Keziah[/name]
[name]Freya[/name] - I love [name]Freya[/name] but live in the UK where it’s super popular. If I didn’t I’d definitely consider it! - [name]Athena[/name], [name]Faye[/name] or [name]Esme[/name]
[name]Isis[/name] - This is a nice name that I should love but for some reason it feels “cold” to me. - Isola, [name]Anais[/name] or [name]Isaline[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name] - [name]Harriet[/name] is one of my favourites  I love the nn’s [name]Hattie[/name] or [name]Etta[/name] too. - [name]Georgina[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] or [name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Aisha[/name] - not my style but it is pretty. [name]How[/name] about [name]Ailsa[/name], [name]Isha[/name] or [name]Dasha[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] - This is a nice name but will have pronounciation issues if you live somewhere where lots of people speak French (I don’t!) and it has the annoying [name]Jen[/name] nn. Although you could try and push for [name]Evie[/name] as a nn. I also like - [name]Geneva[/name], [name]Imogen[/name] or [name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Kiera[/name] - I don’t like the [name]Keira[/name] Knightley association but if you can get past that it’s a nice name. [name]How[/name] about? - [name]Saskia[/name], [name]Annika[/name] or [name]Katya[/name]

Best of luck!

[name]Iris[/name] - I love this name - i think it would be easy to wear and could suit any girl, it really is perfect! I think the nickname [name]Izzy[/name] is really sweet, the I initial justifies it enough for me
Airley - i can see the appeal, it is a pretty name, but i prefer the more classic names on your list
[name]Clover[/name] - I think this would be gorgeous as a middle name
[name]Dorothy[/name] - I have trouble imagining this on a teenager
[name]Marguerite[/name]- i love this name, and its nicknames, especially [name]Greta[/name], [name]Maggie[/name] and [name]Daisy[/name]!
[name]Cleo[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it!!
[name]Lilla[/name]/ [name]Lillia[/name]- I think [name]Lily[/name] names are getting a bit popular, I prefer other names from your list
[name]Allegra[/name]- Theres something about this name that I don’t like, but I can’t put my finger on what
[name]Susannah[/name]- Not my style but it is sweet
[name]Miriam[/name] - I love this name, but I think a lot of people would find it too dated.
[name]Helena[/name]- Like it but not my favourite on the list
[name]Clementine[/name] - A bit too “star baby” for my liking
[name]Hania[/name] - Ooh i really like this! Is it pronunced “han eea” or “han i a”? I think I’m adding this to my list!!
[name]Alice[/name]- [name]Lovely[/name] and classic, but maybe a bit too popular?
[name]Hazel[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name]!
[name]Scarlett[/name]- This name bothers me because shortened it become scar. The full name is lovely, but quite popular where I’m from.
[name]Appoline[/name]- Different… the nickname [name]Apple[/name] could be really cute!
[name]Lilac[/name]- [name]Lovely[/name] but I think I’d prefer it as a middle name- I think it would blend in with all the [name]Lila[/name]'s.
[name]Allanah[/name]- I prefer others on your list
[name]Elsie[/name]/[name]Elsa[/name]- [name]Elsa[/name] is on my list as well! I really like it!!
[name]Lark[/name] - Seems a bit masculine to me. Would make a lovely middle name
[name]Freya[/name]- Nice, but not my favourite
[name]Isis[/name]- Would be better for the nn [name]Izzy[/name]? But if you prefer [name]Iris[/name] I would stick to that.
[name]Harriet[/name]- Same as [name]Dorothy[/name]
[name]Aisha[/name]- [name]Love[/name] this!
[name]Genevieve[/name]- Reminds me of the dog from [name]Madeline[/name]… I do like it though!
[name]Kiera[/name]- stylish, but I think you have better on your list

Soo my top five would have to be (in no particular order): [name]Elsa[/name], [name]Hania[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Cleo[/name], [name]Marguerite[/name]

Good luck!!!

Bad news!
my husband, who was previously pretty easy-going about the naming process has suddenly become a lot more involved and opinionated!!!
He has gone through the list and deleted most of them, mostly for three reasons

  1. They remind him of someone he knows or has known (even people he has only met once!)
  2. He thinks the name would only suit a person with blonde hair
  3. He can’t imagine it on one or more of a baby, tennager, 30-50 year old or old lady
With some of these I can see where he is coming from, but others I think he is being a bit over the top! For example, he has elminated [name]Alice[/name] because he thinks she would need to be blonde (like [name]Alice[/name] in wonderland i guess?)
He has also added some new names to the list… this is his list

[name]Hania[/name]
[name]Appoline[/name]
[name]Elsa[/name]
[name]Isis[/name]
[name]Katya[/name]
[name]Martha[/name]
[name]Athena[/name]
[name]Opal[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]
[name]Roxanne[/name]
[name]Rebecca[/name]
he also said he wanted to add some more…
Does anyone have any tips on how we can make a comprimise?
I don’t mind the names he’s added, but they aren’t my favourite. Also he has eliminated a lot of my favourites like [name]Iris[/name]!!!

He’s decided we shouild rethink [name]Felix[/name] as well!!!

Can anyone help out with some tips or a good comprimise???

Thankyou so so so much,
[name]Yvette[/name]

[name]Yvette[/name],

Oh, I’m sorry this just got so difficult for you! Off your husband’s list, I like [name]Elsa[/name], [name]Katya[/name], [name]Roxanne[/name], and [name]Rebecca[/name]. I don’t know how you two should compromise, but you need to find a name you both love, for sure! Maybe you could both make a list and exchange it with your partner and allow them to cross of names they don’t care for or couldn’t see using for your baby? Hopefully, when you switch the lists back, you find a few you agree on.

As for compromise names, maybe something like [name]Hannelore[/name] ([name]Hanna[/name], [name]Nell[/name], [name]Lora[/name]), [name]Hanna[/name], [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Adelheid[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Aveline[/name], [name]Eveline[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Elspeth[/name], [name]Isadora[/name], [name]Isabeau[/name], [name]Katrina[/name], [name]Katharina[/name], [name]Corina[/name], [name]Martina[/name], [name]Marta[/name], [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], Alora, [name]Alethea[/name], [name]Althea[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Scarlett[/name], [name]Juliette[/name], [name]Lucienne[/name], [name]Flora[/name], [name]Frances[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Roxana[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Rowena[/name], [name]Rhiannon[/name], [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Miriam[/name], [name]Delilah[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], or [name]Shoshana[/name] might work?
