Second Thoughts?

We’re not TTC just yet, but I’m a planner and want to have our favorite names list built out when that time comes. Not to mention, DH and I don’t always agree on names, so I feel like we’ll all be better off to have a set list that we can pull from

Right now, our top boy name is [name_m]Cormac[/name_m]. DH’s favorite author is [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_u]McCarthy[/name_u], and my great-grandfather (whose name I adore) was [name_m]Charles[/name_m] [name_m]Mack[/name_m]. [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] will likely go by [name_m]Mac[/name_m] to family and friends.

Our second contender is [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]. I love surnames, and I love how strong [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] sounds. However, this is the name I’m having second thoughts about. I really want all of our future kids’ names to “go”…not in a theme-like way, but I want the styles and vibes to be similar. Our top girls’ name is [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], and I’m also looking for a second girls’ name for the list (currently liking [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]).

So, do you think [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] is a good fit with [name_m]Cormac[/name_m], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]*? What other names do you suggest for this sibset? The full names will likely be [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_m]Salvatore[/name_m], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] ([name_m]David[/name_m], [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], or [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]). Last name starts and ends with “o” and is the name of a city.

(*[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is a placeholder for now. I like it but we haven’t officially decided to add it to the list).

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is great. I’m not crazy about [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]…will probably get [name_u]Sully[/name_u]…if that’s ok with you.

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is so handsome!
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u] is not my style, but it’s not a bad name at all.
I think all your names go together well, they feel modern, spunky and a bit Southern. I adore [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]!

My opinion: if you plan on having a big family, I would just build the sibset as you go. You will likely change your mind about at least a couple of these in the future (if you are a planner) and your style will evolve over time. I would pick the name you like best for either gender first and go from there.

I can see siblings [name_u]Sully[/name_u] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]; [name_u]Sully[/name_u] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]; [name_u]Sully[/name_u] and ([name_m]Cor[/name_m])[name_m]Mac[/name_m]; but maybe not [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_m]Mac[/name_m] (two MA names if you go by the [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] nickname a lot).

I can see [name_m]Cormac[/name_m] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u].

I can see [name_u]Sully[/name_u], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f].

[name_m]Cormac[/name_m] is fantastic and I really like it with the sibling names.
