Secret Name Heresies

Are there any names that seem to be super popular among the posters on this site (and/or others populated by name enthusiasts) that you secretly dislike? I have a lot…apologies in advance. [name]Feel[/name] free to defend any names you think are included unjustly.

[name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]- I think this is so pretty
[name]Felix[/name]- I used to love this one, but not so much anymore
[name]Gus[/name]
[name]Sadie[/name]- cute, but a little too cute for me
[name]Isla[/name]- I’m just starting to get the appeal
[name]June[/name]- I love [name]June[/name] because I love the movie Walk the [name]Line[/name] (I like the movie more than the real deal). And [name]June[/name] is a character in one of my favorite video games.
[name]Georgia[/name]- I don’t like this either, I prefer [name]Georgiana[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]- This is one I’d never consider using
[name]Cora[/name]

[name]Daffodil[/name]- Yuck, I like a lot of flower names, but this one just seems silly to me!

[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]- Used to be my favorite, but I’m starting to get tired of it
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Daisy[/name]- I find this one a little cheesy
[name]Bronwyn[/name]
[name]Guinevere[/name]- I think this is beautiful, can’t imagine it on a real person
[name]Viola[/name]- love this one too
[name]Astrid[/name]- I liked this before the Office
[name]Dashiell[/name]- this is my son’s name, and I love it!!! But honestly I didn’t like it for a really long time, my husband has loved it forever (since The Incredibles came out, that is), and that’s how he ended up with the name. I expected to only call him [name]Dash[/name], which I did like. But I ended up liking [name]Dashiell[/name] in full, and now I find myself calling him [name]Dashiell[/name] more often than [name]Dash[/name], which I really never ever expected. FYI it’s pronounced [name]Dash[/name]-ull, not [name]Dash[/name]-ee-el or Duh-sheel!
[name]Killian[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]- seems like a girls name to me
[name]Emmeline[/name]- boring
[name]Arabella[/name]- I don’t find this pretty at all! [name]Don[/name]'t know why!

[name]Eloise[/name]- I know a little girl named [name]Eloise[/name], and every time I hear her name I think it sounds weird
[name]Jude[/name]/[name]Judah[/name]- I think [name]Jude[/name] is awesome, but I always think it sounds like “Jew”, but I don’t like [name]Judah[/name]
[name]Theo[/name]- I hate [name]Theo[/name]! I love [name]Theodore[/name] but won’t use it because I hate [name]Theo[/name]!
[name]Beckett[/name]- This sounds a lot like my last name, but I like this more
[name]Malachi[/name]- I used to like it in high school

I’ll have to make a list later! But one I HATE that everyone loves is [name]Evelyn[/name]! I really, really hate that one.

[name]Rufus[/name]. I just finished reading “Kindred,” so that didn’t improve my image of a name I already didn’t care for. There are several names on your list that I also dislike, and several I like. Most of them I’m indifferent to. There’s no accounting for taste; I’ll give the frequent Nameberry posters credit for looking into a broad range of names, for generally favoring real names, and for sharing my obsession. As a general rule, I’m far more conservative with boys’ names, so that’s why you’ll see more of them listed here.

Others I’ll cop to disliking:
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Hudson[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Rex[/name]
[name]Gus[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]/[name]Finnley[/name]
[name]Beckett[/name]
[name]Winston[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Jemima[/name] (Special note here: Is it correct that this is common outside the U.S.? It has some serious baggage here but I wouldn’t object to it elsewhere)
[name]Edith[/name]

If it makes anyone feel better, I’m fond of the name [name]Yvonne[/name], which is totally trashed on this site.

[name]Arabella[/name], [name]Bronwen[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name].
[name]Arabella[/name] is just so so pretentious, and the soft “ella” sounds out of place next to the rather has “rab” sound (and this is coming from a huge proponent of the name [name]Octavia[/name]), and the whole thing just sounds like some made up Disney princess who lives in [name]Arabia[/name].
[name]Bronwen[/name] and [name]Evelyn[/name] are rather ugly (although I do like the nn [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Evie[/name] for [name]Evelyn[/name]) and [name]Evelyn[/name] is a boys name!
I’m really really sorry, I know some lovely people with these names and I can definitely understand why people use them, and I’d much rather meet [name]Arabella[/name] than I would yet another McJaidynneLyn, but I just have weird biases against certain names.

[name]Matilda[/name]: I think it’s a spunky name…

[name]Imogen[/name]: I love its feel, but wouldn’t use it…

[name]Felix[/name]: I think it’s a cool name, but wouldn’t personally use it…

[name]Gus[/name]: I like it as a nickname for [name]August[/name] or [name]Augustin[/name]…

[name]Sadie[/name]: I think it’s a cute nickname for [name]Sarah[/name]…

[name]Isla[/name]: I do like [name]Isla[/name] (knew one growing up), but wouldn’t use it myself…

[name]June[/name]: I’m not a fan of [name]June[/name], but love [name]Jane[/name]…

[name]Georgia[/name]: I love [name]Georgia[/name]'s combined spunk and elegance, but prefer [name]Georgiana[/name].

[name]Sebastian[/name]: I think it’s handsome, but as a middle name…

[name]Cora[/name]: I love [name]Cora[/name], both on it’s own, and as a nickname for [name]Cordelia[/name]. I love its old-fashioned, elegant feel.

[name]Elijah[/name]: Not a fan of [name]Elijah[/name]…

[name]Dahlia[/name]: I think [name]Dahlia[/name] is regal…

[name]Ezra[/name]: I do love [name]Ezra[/name], not only because it’s a Biblical classic, but because it isn’t heard often. That said, it’s too close to [name]Eliza[/name] for me…

[name]Clara[/name]: I personally wouldn’t use it, but I think it’s a lovely name…

[name]Amelia[/name]: I think [name]Amelia[/name] is great!

[name]Ophelia[/name]: I’m not an [name]Ophelia[/name] fan, not only because of the “I’ll feel ya” teasing, but because I have a habit of putting the prefixes “hem” and “ped” before it…

[name]Daphne[/name]: I love this name’s sophistication, but wouldn’t use it due to [name]Daffy[/name]…

[name]Daffodil[/name]: I hate this name, and haven’t seen it suggested on Nameberry. I’ve seen it used in some games, and couldn’t believe it…

[name]Lachlan[/name]: I personally wouldn’t use it, but wouldn’t think it awful if someone else did…

[name]Barnaby[/name]/[name]Barnabas[/name]: See [name]Lachlan[/name]…

[name]Freya[/name]: I HATE [name]Freya[/name]! I only think of frayed fabric.

[name]Edith[/name]: I’m not an [name]Edith[/name] fan, either, but it’s growing on me…

[name]Delilah[/name]: I’m not a [name]Delilah[/name] fan. If I’m not reminded of the Biblical story, I’m reminded of that annoying radio host, [name]Delilah[/name].

[name]Adelaide[/name]: Not an [name]Adelaide[/name] fan…

[name]Charlotte[/name]: I do love [name]Charlotte[/name], due to its classic roots, elegance, and simplicity.

[name]Lily[/name]: I used to love [name]Lily[/name], but its popularity has ruined it for me. [name]Lillian[/name], on the other hand, I think is awful.

[name]Atticus[/name]: I do love it, but as a middle name, due to To Kill A Mocking [name]Bird[/name] and [name]Atticus[/name] [name]Finch[/name]'s morals and ethics.

[name]Clementine[/name]: I think [name]Clementine[/name] is very sweet, but I’d keep it in the middle.

[name]Estella[/name]: Not a fan…

[name]Willa[/name]: I love [name]Willa[/name]! There’s something quite elegant about it for me.

[name]Willow[/name]: HATE [name]Willow[/name]! It’s 100% [name]Palin[/name] to me, and just…ick…

[name]Olive[/name]: I think it’s a cool, quirky name, but not on my child!

[name]Oliver[/name]: [name]Oliver[/name] is one of my favorites…

[name]Oscar[/name]: [name]Oscar[/name] is still 100% Grouch to me.

[name]Daisy[/name]: I think [name]Daisy[/name] is sweet, but I love floral names (just not [name]Daffodil[/name])…

[name]Bronwyn[/name]: I think it’s a nice Irish name for someone looking for something Irish and different.

[name]Guinevere[/name]: [name]Guinevere[/name] is really regal to me, but I wouldn’t use it, personally. [name]Genevieve[/name] fits the bill for me!

[name]Viola[/name]: I think [name]Viola[/name] is charming…

[name]Astrid[/name]: I highly dislike [name]Astrid[/name], and when I hear it, I think of two not nice words…

[name]Dashiell[/name]: [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Dashiell[/name]! I think it’s handsome, masculine, professional, classy, etc…

[name]Killian[/name]: Not a fan of [name]Killian[/name] or any name beginning with a synonym of murder…

[name]Jasper[/name]: I’m neutral on [name]Jasper[/name]…

[name]Emmeline[/name]: I’ve loved [name]Emmeline[/name] since I was a little girl, but wouldn’t use it now due to [name]Emma[/name], [name]Emily[/name], and [name]Amelia[/name]'s popularity.

[name]Arabella[/name]: I think this one is really elegant, but I personally wouldn’t use it…

[name]Duncan[/name]: Donuts.

[name]Poppy[/name]: I’m not a fan of [name]Poppy[/name] as a first name, but don’t mind it in the middle…

[name]Eloise[/name]: I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]! I think of a spunky little girl who grows up to become and elegant attorney.

[name]Jude[/name]/[name]Judah[/name]: Not a fan…

[name]Theo[/name]: I think [name]Theo[/name] is a great nickname for [name]Theodore[/name]…

[name]Beckett[/name]: This one’s with Bronywn for me…

[name]Malachi[/name]: Ick

Like [name]Lyndsay[/name], I don’t care for [name]Evelyn[/name]. It’s still 100% nursing home to me, although I did think it was pretty for a few days. I like [name]Eve[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Evangeline[/name], and [name]Genevieve[/name], though.

[name]Matilda[/name] - I do love this. [name]Love[/name] [name]Tillie[/name] and [name]Tilda[/name], too. Would use it.
[name]Imogen[/name] - love it, love [name]Immy[/name].
[name]Felix[/name] - knew a very bad man by this name, so I don’t like it.
[name]Gus[/name] - don’t like!
[name]Sadie[/name] - don’t like!
[name]Isla[/name] - neutral
[name]June[/name] - neutral
[name]Georgia[/name] - love so much! My daughter had a friend named [name]Georgia[/name]. So pretty and nice.
[name]Sebastian[/name] - I adore this! My son’s middle name. It really is a very handsome name.
[name]Cora[/name] - love
[name]Elijah[/name] - great name, I would use it for sure. Lijah is a fun nn.
[name]Dahlia[/name] - I love the way it looks written, but don’t like the way it sounds as much.
[name]Ezra[/name] - don’t really like.
[name]Clara[/name] - one of my faves! It’s fun to say. It isn’t very long so it would be easy to fill out all the hundreds of forms in your child’s life. Yet it is so feminine and sweet. My daughter’s name is [name]Laura[/name] and it has a similar sound. Very satisfying!
[name]Amelia[/name] - my friend named her daughter [name]Amelia[/name]. Very pretty.
[name]Ophelia[/name] - a pretty name, but I think of the poor insane [name]Ophelia[/name] in [name]Hamlet[/name].
[name]Daphne[/name] - one of my faves
[name]Daffodil[/name] - don’t like
[name]Lachlan[/name] - don’t like
[name]Barnaby[/name]/[name]Barnabas[/name] - like it as a concept or for somebody else.
[name]Freya[/name] - Nameberry has helped me develop a taste for this name.
[name]Edith[/name] - don’t like, but I would suggest it because other people sometimes really like it.
[name]Delilah[/name] - don’t like
[name]Adelaide[/name] - I like it. [name]Addie[/name].
[name]Charlotte[/name] - love
[name]Lily[/name] - love as a nn for [name]Lillian[/name].
[name]Atticus[/name] - love, but not for my own family
[name]Clementine[/name] - ditto
[name]Estella[/name] - love!
[name]Willa[/name] - kind of like it
[name]Willow[/name] - for someone else
[name]Olive[/name] - I think it’s fun on the one hand, but I fear it might get tiresome.
[name]Oliver[/name] - adore!
[name]Oscar[/name] - I know a hipster college student named this. He was named after his dad. He pulls it off really well. So handsome and quirky at the same time.
[name]Daisy[/name] - I love this name but for a pet.
[name]Bronwyn[/name] - knew a very odd [name]Bronwyn[/name] in high school. I only ever think of her.
[name]Guinevere[/name] - no, like [name]Gwenyth[/name].
[name]Viola[/name] - sounds a bit like B.O.-la. [name]Don[/name]'t like that much. But my daughter loves it.
[name]Astrid[/name] - adore!
[name]Dashiell[/name] - adore!
[name]Killian[/name] - sounds like kill. Would never use it or suggest it.
[name]Jasper[/name] - love
[name]Emmeline[/name] - neutral
[name]Arabella[/name] - very pretty. [name]Jackie[/name] O was going to name her second daughter that name but she died.
[name]Duncan[/name] - doughnuts
[name]Poppy[/name] - love as a nn for [name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name] - love
[name]Jude[/name]/[name]Judah[/name] - don’t like that much
[name]Theo[/name] - sincerely love, love [name]Ted[/name], too.
[name]Beckett[/name] - don’t like
[name]Malachi[/name] - really don’t like! [name]Mal[/name] means bad.

You kind of have to develop a taste for many of these names. If you don’t live in an area where people name their kids unusual names, these choices seem eccentric and sometimes silly. But I live in a place where lots of kids have unusual names. So they seem like a lot of fun. [name]Even[/name] the kids in high school are named [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Linus[/name], and [name]Amelia[/name]. We know a little baby boy named [name]Conrad[/name]. My daughter knows an [name]Esme[/name]. So these names seem normal to us. Whereas names like [name]Matthew[/name], [name]Andrew[/name], [name]Meagan[/name], [name]Evan[/name], [name]Ava[/name], and [name]Jessica[/name] are very handsome or pretty, but overused to the point that I think, with all the fun and unusual names out there, why did you choose that? Of course I should talk. My name is [name]Susan[/name] and I love it. There are a million zillion Susans in the world.

[name]Imogen[/name] - Where did this name come from?
[name]Sadie[/name] - Reminds me of S&M (I know, I know… ”)
[name]Georgia[/name] - I love this name! and I don’t mind [name]Jorja[/name] either, but that’s because I’m a fan of [name]Jorja[/name] [name]Fox[/name]…
[name]Sebastian[/name] - This is neat for a boy
[name]Amelia[/name] - I love [name]Amelia[/name]!
[name]Barnaby[/name]/[name]Barnabas[/name] - Sounds too much like “Barrabas”
[name]Clementine[/name] - Too old for me, I think.
[name]Olive[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it!
[name]Bronwyn[/name] - [name]Don[/name]'t like
[name]Viola[/name] - Means “rapes” in spanish.
[name]Killian[/name] - Maybe [name]Gillian[/name] is better (if we’re talking about girl’s names)

This is a fascinating post! I love reading everyone’s opinions. Maybe I’ll think twice before I recommend the name [name]Evelyn[/name]. No, I can’t help it. Sorry, I really do love it. It’s so warm and cozy. But the sad thing is, I probably wouldn’t name my own daughter [name]Evelyn[/name]. I would probably name her [name]Cecilia[/name] nn [name]Celia[/name] even though it means blind. My grandmother-in-law was named [name]Cecilia[/name] and she was such a character. It would be so fun to have another [name]Cecilia[/name] in the family. [name]Cecilia[/name] [name]May[/name]. My grandmother was named [name]May[/name].

Aw, [name]Susan[/name], I don’t think you should stop suggesting [name]Evelyn[/name], everyone likes different names! The main reason I hate [name]Evelyn[/name] is because my husband has a very mean Great Aunt [name]Evelyn[/name], and I used to work at a preschool and there was this unbelievably bratty little 4 year old named [name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name]. Since those are my only real associations with it, I just can’t like. Like you with [name]Felix[/name]. [name]Cecilia[/name] [name]May[/name] is so cute! I can’t believe I never thought of that, my great-grandmother was [name]Cecilia[/name] and her daughter (my grandma) is [name]May[/name] [name]Ann[/name]!

hi, i’m new to this site, but an avid name nerd none the less. anyways…my son’s name is beckett reed and i noticed that most of you have beckett in the “do not like” list. i’m just wondering why? most people really like the name when they ask what our son’s name is, so i’m just curious why some of you don’t like it, that’s all =)

[name]Hi[/name] rosiepoesy! [name]Beckett[/name] made my “do not like” list just because it’s a name I’m not as excited about as most people on this site generally seem to be. It’s not a name I would cringe to hear, just not my style. I even like [name]Beck[/name] as a nickname. I can’t speak for everyone else, but not all names I listed here are equal in terms of dislike, and they are only the Nameberry-ish names that I don’t prefer–most names I would strongly object to are not popular here and would make up a separate list ([name]Jayden[/name], [name]Kyler[/name], and [name]Trevin[/name], for instance).

P.S. I really like [name]Reed[/name], and the sound does go nicely with [name]Beckett[/name].

[name]Don[/name]'t worry, [name]Rosie[/name]. I would not choose [name]Beckett[/name] for my own son, but I think it’s handsome for somebody else’s son. I would never choose a last name for either of my kids because that’s just not my style, and it definitely isn’t my husband’s style - he only likes classic names. It’s very possible that you wouldn’t choose my favorite names ([name]Peter[/name] and [name]Laura[/name]) for your kids. It’s a very personal thing when it comes to naming your own baby. I think [name]Beckett[/name] is a thoughtful, original choice though. You did good! And I really like the middle name [name]Reed[/name].
A lot of the posters on this thread confessed that they don’t like a lot of the names I love. I love [name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]Dashiell[/name] for example. But if I named my kid one of those names, I’m sure they’d say congratulations and what a lovely name and really mean it.
I’m sure a lot of the posters don’t like the name [name]Peter[/name] and I know some of them don’t like [name]Sebastian[/name], my son’s middle name. Some of them think [name]Elizabeth[/name] is a boring middle name - that’s my daughter’s middle name. I don’t take offense. Actually I’m so fascinated by names that I just love to talk about them even if people don’t like my choices. I know, that’s really odd!

I love [name]Beckett[/name] on other people’s kids, but I wouldn’t use it myself simply because I’m a classic name lover who isn’t Irish. I think it’s a very handsome name, though!

thanks for your responses! i didn’t take offense or anything, i know how personal naming a baby is. we just always get such positive responses to his name, i was just wondering why some of you didn’t like it, that’s all =) i just love this board and you guys have some great unique but still classic sounding names ideas!!

[name]Elijah[/name] - eh…not my favorite…but I don’t hate it either
[name]Dahlia[/name] - looks fun on paper, but I wouldn’t use it
[name]Ezra[/name] - I can’t get the band Better than [name]Ezra[/name] out of my head
[name]Clara[/name] - too blah to me
[name]Amelia[/name] - I really like it, but my goddaughter’s name is [name]Emily[/name]…
[name]Ophelia[/name] - too dark
[name]Daphne[/name] - Scooby Doo comes to mind, here… Ruh- [name]RO[/name]!

[name]Charlotte[/name] - [name]Lottie[/name] nn is soo cute!
[name]Lily[/name] - cute, but seems overused
[name]Atticus[/name] - fun in idea, but wouldn’t use it myself
[name]Clementine[/name] - really not a fan…
[name]Estella[/name] - prefer [name]Stella[/name]…even tho its getting popular
[name]Willa[/name] - cute!
[name]Willow[/name] - fun and different, but I wouldn’t use it
[name]Olive[/name] - would be on my short list if my goddaughter’s sister wasn’t [name]Olivia[/name] :frowning:
[name]Oliver[/name] - I like, hubby doesn’t :frowning: I said I liked it and he said “Please sir, can I have some more!” Boo!
[name]Oscar[/name] = grouch
[name]Daisy[/name] - I think of the [name]Mario[/name] [name]Princess[/name]
[name]Bronwyn[/name] - I have a really hard time pronouncing this
[name]Guinevere[/name] - waay to regal
[name]Viola[/name] - I like this name, but everytime I see it my mind gets stuck saying Voila!
[name]Astrid[/name] - I agree to the Office comment…anything with connotations to butt and poop = nope in my book
[name]Dashiell[/name] - fun!
[name]Killian[/name] - I think there’s potential if KILL weren’t the first 4 letters
[name]Jasper[/name] - 101 Dalmations anyone?
[name]Emmeline[/name] - cute, but again with the goddaughter [name]Emily[/name]
[name]Arabella[/name] - too frilly for me
[name]Duncan[/name] - Wasn’t the man from the toy store in Home Alone named [name]Duncan[/name]?
[name]Poppy[/name] - the words “seed muffin” follow this in my head …really cute though!
[name]Eloise[/name] - I see the appeal…its just not for me
[name]Jude[/name]/[name]Judah[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Jude[/name]…but would like it as a nn and I don’t like any of the names that this would be its nn
[name]Theo[/name] - I think [name]Bill[/name] Cosby
[name]Beckett[/name] - cute! I really like it (yay rosieposey!)
[name]Malachi[/name] - Has anyone seen “Save the Last Dance”? The bad guy’s name is [name]Malachi[/name]…plus I really dont’ like this name at all…

Names I don’t like that others really do (sorry :frowning: )

[name]Mary[/name] - too bland to me
[name]Jemima[/name]
[name]Tallulah[/name]
[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Jane[/name] - [name]Jane[/name] [name]Doe[/name]…can’t do it
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] - I have a slight lisp…Ce-ce-lia sounds AWFUL when I say it
[name]Dinah[/name]
[name]Juliet[/name] - can’t get past [name]Romeo[/name]
[name]Clover[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] -I can’t use because of a REALLY bratty girl I know with that name, but I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Libby[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]

[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Charles[/name]
[name]Dexter[/name] - I really want to like this one, but I can’t get past the serial killer show :frowning:
[name]Phineas[/name] (but [name]Finn[/name] is cute!)
[name]Raphael[/name]

Less specifically…For the most part I’m not a “classic” name fan…they end up seeming “bland” to me.

“[name]Jasper[/name] - 101 Dalmations anyone?” <------ Lol, yes, I immediately think of Cruella DeVille shouting “[name]Jasper[/name]! [name]Horace[/name]!” as they bungle kidnapping the puppies. He’s a minor character, though, and I think it’s mainly me just having a that’s-a-severely-old-man-name reaction to it, like if you were going to name a kid [name]Grover[/name] (minus the muppet reference). I keep hearing it on this site and mulling it over, though, and I think if I met a little [name]Jasper[/name] I would probably find it charming in time. My husband thinks the name is fine. At least it has history, is a distinctive gem name, etc. so I can respect that. I’m trying to keep an open mind with these names and it’s interesting to ask myself why I have certain reactions to some and not others; sometimes it’s random.

rosypoesy - Ugh, now I feel bad because everyone else is saying that they just aren’t big fans of [name]Beckett[/name]…but I honestly really, really dislike the name. Sorry! My main problem is that I just really dislike the sound. And I can’t say I like how it looks on paper, either, plus I’m not a huge fan of last names first as a genre. I’m really sorry if any of this offends you.

[name]Matilda[/name] - It’s alright, but I live in New Zealand, which is close enough to Australia that all I think of when I hear it is “Waltzing [name]Matilda[/name]”.
[name]Imogen[/name] - I love [name]Imogen[/name]. I think it is so pretty.
[name]Felix[/name] - It’s alright, not great.
[name]Gus[/name] - I don’t like it.
[name]Sadie[/name] - I really, really don’t like this.
[name]Isla[/name] - I love it.
[name]June[/name] - It sounds so boring! I don’t like it. I don’t like [name]Jane[/name], either.
[name]Georgia[/name] - I don’t like it at all, but I love Gerogiana.
[name]Sebastian[/name] - I love it, but only with an “a”. I think [name]Sebastien[/name] looks odd.
[name]Cora[/name] - Not a fan, it sounds like it only belongs in an old folks home.
[name]Elijah[/name] - The only [name]Elijah[/name] I have ever known was a girl, so it sounds really girly to me.
[name]Dahlia[/name] - I prefer [name]Delilah[/name] by a lot.
[name]Ezra[/name] - It is quite awkward to say, and it looks like a typo.
[name]Clara[/name] - I don’t like it either, it just sounds ugly to me.
[name]Amelia[/name] - I love [name]Amelia[/name] so much.
[name]Ophelia[/name] - I think [name]Ophelia[/name] is SO pretty, but I think it’s too much name for a child to bear.
[name]Daphne[/name] - I used to like this, now not so much.
[name]Daffodil[/name] - This is just a silly name.
[name]Lachlan[/name] - I think Lachie is cute, but I don’t like [name]Lachlan[/name].
[name]Barnaby[/name]/[name]Barnabas[/name] - Again, I like [name]Barney[/name] but not the full versions.
[name]Freya[/name] - [name]Freya[/name]'s is a bread brand here, that’s all I think of.
[name]Edith[/name] - Like [name]Cora[/name], it will always be an old lady’s name to me.
[name]Delilah[/name] - Very, very pretty.
[name]Adelaide[/name] - I think it’s quite cute.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - Whenever I see [name]Charlotte[/name] I just see cHARLOTte, which is a shame because it is a pretty name.
[name]Lily[/name] - I love [name]Lily[/name].
[name]Atticus[/name] - This sounds like it should be a name of a ancient god, not a baby.
[name]Clementine[/name] - I love love love [name]Clementine[/name]. It’s beautiful.
[name]Estella[/name] - It’s alright.
[name]Willa[/name] - Sounds too much like a boys name.
[name]Willow[/name] - I think it is very very pretty.
[name]Olive[/name] - I think [name]Olive[/name] sounds ugly. And I don’t like olives. (:
[name]Oliver[/name] - I love [name]Oliver[/name]. I love it.
[name]Oscar[/name] - Not really a fan.
[name]Daisy[/name] - I think it is so cute. A good friend of mine has the middle name [name]Daisy[/name], and we call her by it because it is so pretty.
[name]Bronwyn[/name] - I don’t like it.
[name]Guinevere[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] it, but maybe not on an actual baby.
[name]Viola[/name] - I prefer [name]Violet[/name] by so much.
[name]Astrid[/name] - I quite like it.
[name]Dashiell[/name] - I really like the sound of it and how it looks, but the silent “i” annoys me sometimes.
[name]Killian[/name] - I really like the sound of it, but I don’t like that it has Kill in it, and I think it looks odd spelt [name]Cillian[/name].
[name]Jasper[/name] - I love [name]Jasper[/name].
[name]Emmeline[/name] - [name]Emmeline[/name] is very pretty, and it gives you the cute [name]Emmy[/name] nickname without a over popular and boring name like [name]Emily[/name] or [name]Emma[/name].
[name]Arabella[/name] - I don’t like it, which is odd because I love [name]Isobel[/name] and [name]Annabella[/name].
[name]Duncan[/name] - It sounds like it should be the name of a thick, chubby boy.
[name]Poppy[/name] - I think it’s gorgeous.
[name]Eloise[/name] - I love it.
[name]Jude[/name]/[name]Judah[/name] - Again, the only [name]Jude[/name] I’ve ever known was a woman (short for [name]Judith[/name]), so it’s hard for me to picture it on a boy.
[name]Theo[/name] - It’s alright. I went to school with a not so nice boy called [name]Theo[/name], so I don’t really like it.
[name]Beckett[/name] - I love it. I think [name]Beck[/name] is a gorgeous nickname, too.
[name]Malachi[/name] - I don’t like it. Someone has already mentioned this, but [name]Mal[/name] means bad.

Oh! My sons name is [name]Hudson[/name] :frowning: hahaha, so Im partail… and [name]Finley[/name] is a name I love, but think it is becomign far to popular in the last year…
Names I see becoming OVERLY popular in the next year or so are TWILIGHT names…
[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Cullen[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Bella[/name]
[name]Carlisle[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
… so on,
not that these aret lovely names (I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Cullen[/name] & [name]Esme[/name] for first names), but because of the Twilight phenom. Im sure they will be heard everywhere!

Interesting post! I’m about half and half on your list.

I really do like:

[name]Freya[/name] – I do love Norse names!

[name]Isla[/name] – (but only once I learned it’s proper pronunciation) I’d use this name in a heartbeat if my hubby liked it!

[name]Killian[/name] – I know it sounds like “kill” but I can’t help but like it.

[name]Lachlan[/name] – I think it’s beautiful.

[name]Malachi[/name] – One of my favorite Biblical names.

[name]Jude[/name]/[name]Judah[/name] – again, a favorite Biblical name (although part of the reason I like this is because I know an adorable [name]Judah[/name])

[name]Oliver[/name] – I’ve always liked this name and don’t have any particular reason!

I really do not like:

[name]Poppy[/name] – I just don’t get this one. I’m all for nature names, but this is way too close to “puppy,” not to mention the association with opiates. Besides, she’d be bound to be called “Soda-Pop” at one point or another.

[name]Daffodil[/name] – Again, another nature name I just don’t get. “[name]Daffy[/name]” and “[name]Dilly[/name]” are not particularly cute nicknames.

[name]Astrid[/name] – Really? [name]Astrid[/name]? (Again, love norse names, but this one does not translate)

[name]Delilah[/name] – It’s beautiful, but any name with negative connotations that have stuck for hundreds of years probably should not be used. You might as well go with [name]Jezebel[/name]. [name]Just[/name] because a name was in the Bible doesn’t make it reputable.

[name]Elijah[/name] – a pretty name, but I just know way too many.

[name]Olive[/name] – [name]Olivia[/name] is beautiful, albeit overly popular. But [name]Olive[/name]? As in black olives, green olives and extra virgin olive oil? No thank you.
