See any mistakes with my choice?

I posted earlier asking whether Berries liked [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], or [name_m]Warren[/name_m] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] best, and [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] was the clear winner.

I feel really good about the name, but is it a deal-breaker given my last name, [name_m]Martin[/name_m]?

Also, is [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] a mistake because of the M ending and beginning the first and last names? Also, with nickname [name_m]Will[/name_m], are kids going to call him [name_m]Wal[/name_m]-[name_u]Mart[/name_u]? ([name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] … sounds kind of like [name_m]Wal[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m]…turns into [name_m]Wal[/name_m]-[name_u]Mart[/name_u]?)

[name_m]William[/name_m] is a big family name on my side, and [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] is a big family name on my husband’s side. We love the name. I have just been wondering if we are making any mistakes.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Personally, I think [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] is too much. I like [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] way more! That having been said, since [name_m]William[/name_m] is a family name I think you don’t need to worry about ‘[name_m]Wal[/name_m]-[name_u]Mart[/name_u]’. If you’re still unsure, i think [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] sounds amazing! Go with your gut though, it’s your kid

I prefer [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m].

I like [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] the best with your surname but that’s just my personal preference. It doesn’t go well with [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] with the back-to-back s’s but the flow of the fn and mn are overruled by the fn and surname (we use them more often in real life). [name_m]William[/name_m] has never been a favourite of mine but I’m in the minority here on Nameberry! (it’s very lonely sometimes :)). OK, so I’m going to try and be objective and put my preference aside to help you. I will try to look at your case with a fresh perspective.

(1) [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] are family names so they have special meaning for you.

(2) [name_m]Martin[/name_m] is a common surname and [name_m]William[/name_m] is a popular name. Therefore, I’m quite positive that there are other [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m]'s out there as well as [name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m]'s. I don’t think any of them are overthinking like we do on Nameberry and worry that their name is similar to [name_m]Wal[/name_m]-[name_u]Mart[/name_u] and their lives are pretty normal. No damage done.

(3) If you’re feeling good about the name [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] then it’s the name for you! No deal breaker. I hope I’ve helped to allay your fears and made you feel better. I feel fine.

I prefer fn [name_m]William[/name_m] with surname [name_m]Martin[/name_m] over fn [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] because I think it is more obvious that [name_m]William[/name_m] is the first name when paired with [name_m]Martin[/name_m]. If the name was [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] [name_m]Martin[/name_m], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] is a common surname so he’d probably (at least occasionally) get more confusion with people thinking his name is [name_m]Martin[/name_m] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]. Plus, I’m not a huge fan of [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]. Kids are clever, they’ll come up with ways to tease other kids if they want to…they might come up with [name_m]Will[/name_m] [name_u]Mart[/name_u], they might not. But I don’t think that should be a primary factor in your decision. If you like [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] best, go for it!

I honestly like the name [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] the best.

Well put. I totally agree.

I love [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]! I don’t think [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Martin[/name_m] sounds like walmart.
