All your names are stunning. It’s so hard deciding between them. I remember reading your posts about [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] and if you were going to use [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] in the combo or not. And, I was really hesitant about [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]. It’s gorgeous, but I think it is a hard name to carry in the US.
I love [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] (those would make an awesome sibset, just noticed that). On its own, my favourite might be [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. But, as a combo, [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u] is stunning.
There are a lot of mixed thoughts in this, hope it helps you a tiny bit at least. Good luck!
I adore [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u].
Partially I’m just also a very big fan of the name [name_f]Frances[/name_f] - it’s my sister’s name and also a name I just happen to love, but also I think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] fits in beautifully with your other name choices. ([name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] fills a gap in my naming heart I didn’t even know was there!)
I like [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], but no way near as much as [name_f]Frances[/name_f], and [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] is too much for me, sorry.
If you would be open to another combination, [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is absolutely darling and would honour [name_f]Freida[/name_f], [name_f]Helen[/name_f] and Christ0pher. [name_f]Frances[/name_f] H e l e n [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would also be lovely (though I am biased by a long shot because [name_f]Frances[/name_f] H e l e n is actually my sister’s name)
I voted [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], because I genuinely think it’s a stunning name and if there’s anyone who can pull it off, it’ll probably be [name_f]Lilian[/name_f]'s child. yes, many people see this name negatively, but what is so bad about it? It’s a beautiful floral name. It’s just long and unusual, and most (all?) of us here probably haven’t met one in our life, hence many find it troublesome to imagine it on a kid. I think all its positive associations trumps the possible troubles though, so I hope you’ll still use it.
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f], because [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] just sound like perfect siblings, lol. It’s beautiful and elegant, and an “easier” name to bear than [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], but well, less amazing/striking. If you really feel like [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] isn’t the one though, I guess [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is the next great fit.
I chose [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] because the [name_u]Jule[/name_u] explanation you gave of the matrilineal magic really sold me I also love the idea of a little [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] or [name_f]Franny[/name_f] running around
I voted for [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. If you ever go on to have a son, or even another daughter, I feel like it would stand nicely next to your other names without outshining them. I don’t want it to seem like I’m picking on [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] too much, but when it comes to [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f], or [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] and [name_m]Horatio[/name_m]… it’s clear which child obviously got the more out-of-this-world name. I imagine you would probably have a hard time finding sibling names that live up to [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]'s precedent.
Plus, [name_f]Frances[/name_f] comes with the super adorable nickname [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], if you wanted one for her ([name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] would be so cute!). I think [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u] best encapsulates all that you’re trying to go for in a name. It has meaning and it has identity, but it’s not overwhelming in either of those aspects. It’s a name that’s still her own, but it’s also important to you and your husband, which are ultimately the three most important people in this equation.
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f]! I love this one.
I read in your other posts that you’re having doubt about [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]. If you’re uncertain at all I think you should reconsider. I would think the parents are trying to create an “image” for their daughter or family instead of choosing a name that will allow her to grow into whoever she wants to be. [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] also doesn’t have the flow that many long names do, so the argument that other names are just as long and hard to say/spell falls flat for me.
I like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f], [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u], or [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] if you are willing to consider that as a full name.
I haven’t been following all of your posts, but I see you have mentioned that Japanese and [name_m]French[/name_m] will be spoken in your home. Perhaps a distinctly Japanese or [name_m]French[/name_m] middle name would be a good choice for your daughter (assuming she will have Japanese/[name_m]French[/name_m] ancestry). If you’re concerned about pronunciation issues but interested in meaning, middles are a great spot for “heritage” choices.
The only one I dislike is [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. It doesn’t have the same WOW factor that your other favorites have. I voted for [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] and [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] since those are the ones I like more individually, but I honestly think the sibset [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] is perfection at its finest.
I voted for [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] would be perfect!
Seconding [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]!
It’s hard baby-naming but it helps knowing and accepting you will likely always have a few other names you could have called him/her. Good luck!
I have followed you on your journey so far and I know that you will ultimately pick the best choice for your child! I know it’s stressful and I think it’s great that you’re putting so much thought into this.
My favorite of your options is [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u]. I like the meaning behind [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] and the story behind [name_u]Jule[/name_u]. What about [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u]? I think that would strike a great balance of meaning and personal significance. Obviously it’s a bit long but your other [name_f]Chrys[/name_f] combo is a similar length. I think [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u] would be beautiful :).
I agree with this.
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] are my favourites, and I think both go fantastically well with possible future brother [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] [name_m]Felix[/name_m].
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u] is also lovely, but [name_f]Frances[/name_f] feels a bit prosaic next to [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] and your other names to me.
[name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]… I know you’ve been set on it for a while but I’ve seen your more recent posts and the responses you got and I’m afraid to say that I do agree with the general consensus that it’s just too much. [name_m]Reading[/name_m] the above, even the many ways in which it honours is a bit too much - there are so many different parts honouring several people at once that I struggle to follow it and I think you (and she) might have a hard time explaining it all. With a name as striking and unusual as [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], I think you need to be absolutely sure that it’s the one and be able to rise above what anyone else thinks. If you’re wobbling now, perhaps it’s not the right choice.
I haven’t voted yet. I’m not keen on [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Frances[/name_f] but I can see that chrysanthemum is still a big deal.
My initial feeling towards it was negative but it’s growing on me. If you really love a name you can carry it off with confidence. Realistically it will be shortened anyway.
If you want to honour [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] then I don’t see the point in going for any of the other names.
However I’m just going to throw [name_u]Christobel[/name_u] out there!
[name_u]Christobel[/name_u] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
Follow your heart, not your head.
[name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] is a mouthful, but [name_f]Chrys[/name_f], Xanth etc are perfectly fine
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] are the ones I voted for.
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] because she is gorgeous, feminine and strong.
To me, she is like the sea, rough and dangerous in some parts, serene and deep in others.
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] because [name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] stood out to me.
It’s also gorgeous simplicity at its finest.
This is so hard… I’ve come to really appreciate [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] after seeing it in your signature so much. However, I do wonder if it is a lot for a little person to carry.
From your alternative, I love [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] the most. It sounds spunky, and not as dated to me as the others.
But I really like the combination [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]… what about [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], if you want something less bold…??
You have some beautiful options here. [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Frances[/name_f] are those I like the most as first names, but I like the combo of [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u] a lot too. I’m not a fan of [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f], sorry. I do like it as a middle name though if that could be an option.
Naming a baby is ridiculously hard! Hugs
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] is not a full name option we are considering. We do not have Japanese ancestry and the [name_m]French[/name_m] on my side is one 7th great-grandfather, so we aren’t looking to create a name based on our languages. The Japanese name our children use will be derived from the characters used in their Chinese heritage names, which will not be on their birth certificates, and may or may not be derived in some way from the meaning of their English name. And the [name_m]French[/name_m] will either be the first name in [name_m]French[/name_m] or a nickname derived from the English name.
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] - [name_f]Minerve[/name_f] or “[name_f]Mignonne[/name_f]” or [name_f]MiMi[/name_f] or possibly “Minou” when very young (gets problematic when older)
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] - [name_f]Cordelie[/name_f] or Délie or [name_f]CoCo[/name_f] or “mon cœur”
[name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f] - [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] or Thème or [name_f]Kiki[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] - [name_f]Frances[/name_f] or CiCi
This is definitely my concern with [name_f]Frances[/name_f].
What do you think of [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u] or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u] or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u]? There is something I really love about the simplicity of Mineva [name_u]Jule[/name_u] on its own, but I’m wondering. And part of what draws me to [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_u]Jule[/name_u] is its symmetry and evenness with our last name, but that also turns me off a bit as well. 8-8-4-4 letters is both pleasing and off-putting to me.
Could [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] be called [name_f]Hildie[/name_f]? [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] would obviously get there more easily, but that’s not an appealing option for us.
