[name_m]Hi[/name_m] I’m looking for some help. My daughter is due Feb next year. I’d like a name for her that is simple, uncommon, but not strange. Her brothers name is [name_m]Xander[/name_m], and our last name is a Scottish Mc name. Her middle name is already decided, it’s [name_f]Marilyn[/name_f]-[name_f]Jeanne[/name_f] no matter what.
Names/types of names that I hate
• Lie Ley names ([name_f]Kylie[/name_f], [name_f]Miley[/name_f], [name_f]Ashlee[/name_f], Kinlie, etc.)
• Made up American names/spellings ([name_m]Brinleigh[/name_m], [name_u]Braylin[/name_u], etc)
• Anything in the [name_u]Aiden[/name_u] family ([name_u]Jayden[/name_u], [name_u]Hayden[/name_u], [name_u]Kayden[/name_u], etc)
Names I love
• [name_f]Summer[/name_f]
• [name_f]Rozlyn[/name_f]
• [name_f]Pheobe[/name_f]
• [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
• [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
• [name_u]Skye[/name_u]
• [name_f]Devina[/name_f]
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] - Cute and pleasant, but it shares an ending with [name_m]Xander[/name_m] and is maybe a little more common than you’re after? It was #195 in 2015.
[name_f]Rozlyn[/name_f] - Eh. If you’re not a fan of made up spellings, this seems like an odd choice. [name_f]Roz[/name_f] to me will always be the giant slug in Monsters Inc.
[name_f]Pheobe[/name_f] - A lovely name, but I’d use the regular spelling, [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f].
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] - Pretty in a calm way.
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] - One of my favorite names ever. Lots of people see it as a cat name, but I think it’s gorgeous and underrated. [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] and [name_m]Xander[/name_m] would be perfect together.
[name_u]Skye[/name_u] - Cute, and goes well with [name_m]Xander[/name_m].
[name_f]Devina[/name_f] - If someone said this out loud to me, I would assume it was spelled [name_f]Davina[/name_f]. I haven’t encountered this spelling before—it kind of just looks like [name_u]Devin[/name_u] with an A tacked on. It probably goes very well with your Scottish surname, though!
I love [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] but my entire family hates it, now I’m not even discussing names with them anymore. [name_f]Pheobe[/name_f] is my next contender. I love [name_f]Freya[/name_f] though! Thank you so much for your reply
I know they’re terrible right?! [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] is interesting, I like the nn options [name_u]Romy[/name_u], [name_f]Milly[/name_f] super cute. [name_u]Blair[/name_u] too is pretty, I love Gossip Girl and I never even thought of it! Thanks so much for your input
I didn’t even realize [name_f]Summer[/name_f] was becoming so popular! Ugh I’ve like it for years. [name_f]Rozlyn[/name_f] I preferred this way just because it lends itself to correct pronunciation, but you make a good point. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] was a typo haha. I don’t mind either spelling of [name_f]Davina[/name_f] the one above was just the first spelling I had seen, and yes it does [name_u]Love[/name_u] the name [name_u]Sage[/name_u], simple, uncommon, yet not strange, plus I’m a big fan of green! Thank you so much for your input
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is my top contender right now, I wish hubby like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] more but he’s really on the fence :-? And as much as I love [name_f]Summer[/name_f] it’s popularity may take it out of the running. Thank you so much for your input!
See! Everyone outside of my family seems to like [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], I don’t understand why my relatives hate it. [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] is definitely at the top of my list! Thank you so much for your help
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] - I think [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_m]Xander[/name_m] sound too similar
[name_f]Rozlyn[/name_f] - I dislike this spelling, it’s confusing and the “in/en/yn” ending for names is really popular, so maybe [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]?
[name_f]Pheobe[/name_f] - love it!
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] - not bad, but initialls would be MMM!
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] - I don’t love it, it’s too close to [name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_u]Skye[/name_u] - great name!
[name_f]Devina[/name_f] - I like it
